Last Farewell to War Dead

Funeral services for Pvt. Forrest Holmes, husband of Mrs. Marian Holmes, 2556 Almont Ave. SE, who was killed in action on Leyte Oct. 29, 1944, will be held Friday at 2 p.m. at the Alt chapel. Burial will be in Wyoming township cemetery.

Pvt. Holmes, a native of Tustin attended schools in LeRoy and moved to Grand Rapids about 10 years ago. He was employed by the Grand Rapids Brass Co. before entering service in Febraury 1944. He went overseas the following September. He was awarded the distinguished service cross post-humously.

Besides his wife, he leaves his mother, Mrs. Anna Shattuck of Alpena; his father Warren Holmes of Reed City; two brothers, Boyd Elofson and Harold Holmes of Grand Rapids; a sister, Mrs. Jack Smith of Reed City, and his grandmother, Mrs. Bert Whiting of Grand Rapids.
