MARCIA CHEESEMAN
68, of St. Ignace and Milwaukee, Wisconsin, was a high school English teacher in the Milwaukee public school system for more than 30 years, teaching at Messmer High School, West Division High School, and the Milwaukee High School of the Arts. Ms. Cheeseman passed away April 1, 2009.
She was born December 31, 1940, and grew up in St. Ignace. Her parents were Henry and Florence (nee Gaspar) Cheeseman.
Ms. Cheeseman was graduated from LaSalle High School in St. Ignace in 1958. She received a Bachelor of Arts degree in speech and English from Marquette University in Milwaukee in 1963.
She retired from teaching in 1996 and since then has spent her time living in both Milwaukee and St. Ignace.
She enjoyed spending time with friends from her graduating class of LaSalle High School. She was known for her caring personality, keen sense of humor, staunch loyalty, and generous spirit, friends said. She was a lifelong member of Saint Catherine's Catholic Church in Milwaukee and St. Ignatius Loyola Catholic Church in St. Ignace.
Ms. Cheeseman is survived by two brothers and their families, Gregory R. and Lana Cheeseman of St. Ignace, and Henry Cheeseman of Los Angeles, California; a nephew and his family, Gregory S. and Karen Cheeseman; a niece and her family, Nicole and Jerry Lee; three great-nieces, Lauren, Addison, and Shelby; an honorary daughter, Cheryl McDonald; an honorary granddaughter, Mya McDonald of Orange Park, Florida; her aunt, Georgiana Gustafson of St. Ignace, and many other relatives. She is also survived by her dear friends Mary Kay Kuhfittig, Karen Dable, Ivanka Kuzmanovic, and Betty Kopp, all from the Milwaukee area.
Ms. Cheeseman was preceded in death by her parents, and longtime companion Alphonse Jordan.
Services were held at St. Ignatius Loyola Catholic Church Monday, April 6. Burial will be in June at St. Ignatius Cemetery, next to her parents.
Pallbearers were George Gustafson, Donald Gustafson, Peter Kuhfittig, Ollie Boynton, Tony Matelski, and David Walker.
Memorials may be directed to the Mackinac Straits Hospital Straits Healthcare Fund. Envelopes are available from Dodson Funeral Home, which assisted the family with arrangements.

PIERCE E. CUNNINGHAM
,47 , on May 4, 2007, after a heart attack. The resident of Okemas and Mackinac Island, Michigan, was forty-seven.
Pierce won the Paul Newman Trophy for his performance as Brian in The Shadow Box in 1981, and, among others roles at Kenyon, played Mr. Marshall in The Little Foxes in 1979. He was also editor of HIKA . After graduating with a degree in English, Pierce went on to a career in acting and freelance writing.
He married Margaret Musser '82 in 1997 on Mackinac Island, where Margaret's family owns the Grand Hotel. Pierce's sister-in-law, Robin Musser Agnew '82, said Pierce reflected fondly on the College. "He loved Kenyon," Agnew said.
Pierce is survived by his wife, Margaret; parents Pierce and Roberta Cunningham; brother, James; sisters Anna Bohlke and Ellen Cunningham; and several nephews and nieces.
