HARRY FREDERICK DAVENPORT
son of the late James and Madeline Davenport, died at his home in Mackinaw City July 5. He was born on Mackinac Island Jan. 20, 1871, but moved to Mackinaw City in early childhood and for 48 years was employed on the railroad. He has been retired for 13 years. Surviving are three sisters, Louisa, Edith and Mrs. Elizabeth Burroughs ofMackinaw City and two brothers Overton and James. Funeral services were conducted last Friday afternoon with Masonic rites observed at the graveside. Attending the funeral were Mrs. J. Davenport of Lorraine OH, Mrs. L. Forden and son of Grand Rapids, Mrs. Lee Morrow and sons of Lansing, Mr. and Mrs. Reid of Petoskey, Mrs. George Lapine and granddaughter, Joan Goodheart, Mackinac Island.

Her husband, James " Pap" Davenport was a much written about Light House Keeper.
They had 10 children, she died 3/18/1891 after giving birth to her 10th child. She wished to be buried on Mackinac Island, so James bundled to body of his wife and child onto a sled, pulling the deceased mother and infnat across the frozen straights to her final resting place of Mackinac.
JEREMY EDWARD DePOTTEY
of Ironwood, Michigan entered the Army in April 2002 and trained at Fort Benning, Georgia to be an infantryman. Following basic and advanced individual training, he was assigned to the 25th Infantry Division's 2nd Battalion, 27th Infantry Regiment at Schofield Barracks, Hawaii. In August 2005, he was reassigned to Fort Drum to serve with 1-32 Infantry. His awards and decorations include the Army Good Conduct Medal, National Defense Service Medal, Afghanistan Campaign Medal, Global War on Terrorism Service Medal, Army Service Ribbon, Combat Infantryman Badge and the Expert Infantryman Badge. He is survived by his wife and three children among others. He was 26.

ANN (SKARYD) DETTMAN
, Age 92 of St. Ignace, Michigan passed away Monday, March 19, 2001 at the Ashley Healthcare Center in Ashley.
Funeral services will be Saturday, March 24, 2001 at 1:00 P.m. at Smith Funeral Homes, Elsie Chapel. Rev. Jana Jirak will officiate. Burial will take place at Brevort Cemetery, St. Ignace, Michigan. Visitation will be held Friday 2-9 with the family present from 2-4 and 7-9 P.m.
Ann was born in Ashley, Michigan on July 24, 1908 the daughter of James and Ann (Matousek) Skaryd. She graduated from Ashley High School with the Class of 1926 and attended Ferris Institute and received her teaching degree. On June 22, 1929 she married Harold L. Dettman at the family farm in Bannister, Michigan. He passed away on January 4, 1980. After they were married they moved to St. Ignace, Michigan where they built a lob cabin at 898 N. State St., which was the site of the original Dettman Cabins. She originally taught in the Gratiot Community Schools in 1927 until moving to St. Ignace where she did substitute teaching for many years. In 1934 they started Quick Service Café in St. Ignace, then in 1936 they opened Dettman’s Cabins, which later expanded to Dettman’s Motels. They were one of the first Motels in Michigan and they ran this until retirement in 1969. Ann was a member of the United Methodist Church in St. Ignace. She was a Lodge member of the CZBJ Lodge #225 in Bannister since 1924, and a member of Michigan Business & Professional Women’s Association in St. Ignace, Michigan. She also enjoyed playing Bridge.
Survivors include two sons, H. James Dettman of Deming, NM, and Prenstiss M. & Evelyn (Hollingsworth) Dettman of Fort Meyers, FL, seven grandchildren, Cindy Figueroa of Omaha, NE, David & Lauri Dettman of Nebraska City, NE, Brian & Denise Dettman of Omaha, NE, James & Veronica Dettman of West Nyack, NY, Mark & Izzy Dettman of Wixom, MI Matthew & Theresa Dettman of Bowling Green, KY, and Ann Dettman of Gramercy, LA, twelve great grandchildren, two sisters, Martha Maxa of Ashley, MI, and Vlasta Kopta of Merrill, MI, and one brother, John & Mamie Skaryd. She was predeceased by her husband Harold, one sister Mildred Bradley, and one brother Joe Skaryd.
Memorials may be made to the United Methodist Church in St. Ignace, Michigan. The family is being served by Smith Family Funeral Homes, Elsie Chapel.
PRINTISS DETTMAN
, 77, passed away Monday, February 7, 2011.
He was born August 12, 1933, in Sault Ste. Marie to Harold L. and Ann (nee Skaryd) Dettman, both schoolteachers and motel owners and operators in St. Ignace.
He was reared in St. Ignace and was graduated as the valedictorian from LaSalle High School in 1950. He received a Bachelor of Arts degree, summa cum laude, in 1954 from Albion College, where he was a member of Phi Beta Kappa and Sigma Nu fraternities, and a medical degree from Harvard Medical School in 1958, where he was a member of Nu Sigma Nu medical fraternity.
He graduated from Harvard Medical School in 1958, Nu Sigma Nu fraternity. Dr. Dettman joined the Methodist Church in 1946 and was a 32nd Degree Mason, Shriner, and member of the Royal Palm Yacht Club.
He enjoyed tennis, bowling, golf, hunting, fishing, playing cards, and travel, and he and his wife, Evelyn, enjoyed many trips following retirement and traveled around the world in 1992.
He visited his last continent, Antarctica, with his son in 1998, and also was able to visit the birthplace of his grandmother in Czechoslovakia.
In recent years, the Dettmans traveled with their own boat, the Maurmar, more than 15,000 miles, including two cruises to the Bahamas.
Dr. Dettman served his internship and residency at Ohio State University, from 1959 to 1961, and served in the United States Navy at the National Naval Medical Center in Bethesda, Maryland, from 1961 to 1963, continued in Reserves for one year, and achieved the rank of Lieutenant Commander.
He received a special fellowship from the National Institutes of Health, and spent from 1963 to 1965 in graduate training in therapeutic radiology at the Medical College of Virginia in Richmond, Virginia, and was certified in therapeutic radiology by the American Board of Radiology in 1965.
He received further training and research experience with a Harvey Picker Foundation Fellowship, from 1965 to 1966 at the Medical College of Virginia and 1966 to 1967 at the Churchill Hospital, Oxford University, Oxford, England.
He joined the faculty of Case Western Reserve Medical as Assistant Professor of Radiology in 1967. He was promoted to Associate Professor with tenure in 1971.
In 1972 Mr. Dettman accepted the Eppley Foundation Professorship of Radiation Therapy at the University of Nebraska Medical Center in Omaha. He was faculty president from 1977 to 1978.
In 1978 he joined a private practice group in Lincoln, Nebraska, continuing as a visiting professor until his retirement in 1990.
He was a member of the American Medical Association, Radiological Society of North America, American Radium Society, Society of Nuclear Medicine, American Society of Therapeutic Radiology and Oncology, Radiation Research Society and Sigma Xi.
He was active in the American Cancer Society in Virginia, Ohio, and Nebraska, serving as Nebraska State President from 1980 to 1981.
Mr. Dettman published a number of articles in medical journals and texts and was a diplomat of the National Board of Medical Examiners.
He is survived by his wife of 55 years, Evelyn Hollingsworth, also from St. Ignace, whom he married following his first year of medical school; three children and their families, Cindy and Mike, David, and Brian and Denise; four grandchildren, Jason, Holly Prentiss, Matthew, and Ryan, and a greatgranddaughter, Saphire.
In addition to his parents, Mr. Dettman was preceded in death by a brother. Services will be this summer at United Methodist Church in St. Ignace.
