POST OFFICE IS FLOODED BY MAIL
Release of Carferries from Ice in Straits Is Cause - Since Saturday the Marquette post office has been flooded with mail from lower Michigan as a result of the freeing of the car ferries from the ice blockade in the Straits of Mackinac. According to Postmaster L. W. Biegler, there have been approximately three thousand sacks of mail brought here from the straits since Saturday, when communication between the two peninsulas was restored after being broken for over a week. The three tousand sacks contained mail which was on the car ferry Chief Wawatam and that which was accumulated in Mackinaw City during the time the ferries were blocked. The bulk of the mail consisted of Detroit newspapers, which had been held at Mackinaw City for over a week. Subscribers of these papers received a week's supply Sunday and yesterday. There was also a large amount of official papers, including the blanks for the income tax drive.
