Born, Corunna, Ont., Sept. 27, 1858; son of Henry N.. and Mary (Proctor) Neal; educated in public schools of Detroit; married at Detroit, May 14, 1884, Elizabeth M. Davies. Assisted in organizing and incorporating the Acme White lead and Color Works, 1884, and has been secretary and general manager since time of organization. President Nelson, Baker & Co., manufacturing pharmacists; born, Brighton, Ont., June 27, 1856; son of John and Eliza Bayley (Thayer) Nelson; educated in Brighton grammar school; Belleville Commercial College, graduating, 1875; Ontario College of Pharmacy, graduating, degree of Ph.C., 1878; married at Rochester, N.Y., Apr. 29, 1884, Anna Louise Gilkeson. Came to Detroit spring of 1878 and entered employ of Frederick Stearns, retail druggist; next was connected with Frederick Stearns & Co., manufacturing pharmacists; was elected secretary of the corporation, 1886, and continued until 1890; was one of the organizers and incorporators of Nelson, Baker & Company, 1890, of which has been the head to the present time. Lumber; born in Newaygo Co., Mich., Feb. 12, 1861; son of Thomas and Margaret (Mahon) Nester; educated at University of Notre Dame, Ind.; married at Saginaw, Mich., 1893, Rosemary O’Donnell. Has been identified with the lumber business founded by his father since 1881, and since the death of the latter in 1890, has acted as manager of the estate of Thomas Nester; treasurer and director of Thessalon Lumber Co., of Detroit, and Nesterville, Ont., organized, 1906. NETTING, Conrad John
President The Barton-Netting CO.; born, Germany, Nov. 5, 1868; son of John Conrad and Catherine (Beckle) Netting; came to America, April, 1880; attended public schools at Pontiac, Mich.; married at Detroit, Feb. 18, 1891, Clara Beckbissinger. Worker on farm from 13 to 19; located in Detroit in spring of 1888 and entered employment of P.A. Billings & Co., later Billings & Drew; learned the chandelier business from bottom up; became connected with firm of Barton & McBean, in January, 1896,as owner of one-third interest in chandelier department, and was the "Co." when the firm became F.G. Barton & Co., in 1898; name changed to Barton & Netting, 1902, and to The Barton-Netting Co., Feb. 1, 1905, of which has since been the head, the company being dealers in gas and electric lighting fixtures, mantels tiling and grates. Also president The Barton-Netting Co., Ltd., Windsor, Can., and vice president Detroit Steam Engine Co. Member Detroit Board of Commerce. Member First German Baptist Church. NEWBRO, Dupont Morse
Pharmacist; born, Lansing, Mich., (Eaton Co) Mar. 28, 1865; son of Soloman D. and Orrisa D. (Maxwell) Newbro; educated in public and private schools of Lansing; married at Butte, Ont., Nov. 20, 1888, Sarah Matilda Hall. Started Newgro Drug Co., Butte, Feb. 1, 1890, first as a retail store, later as wholesale and retail; was for twelve years president and general manager of the company, selling out to company which still bears his name; principal owner and director Fosselman Drug Co., Walkerville Drug Co., and Montana Drug Co., all of Butte, selling out, November, 1902; was for ten years president Washoe Copper Co., whose properties were disposed of to the Amalgamated Copper Co. for $20,000,000. Has been president and general manager of The Herpicide Company, of Detroit, since Sept. 13, 1901, manufacturers of Newbro’s Herpicide. Was the first president of Montana State Pharmacy Examining Board; president Montana State Pharmaceutical Association, 1904-05. Mason, Knight Templar, Shriner. Learned trade of foundryman in shop of John Ritchie & Sons, Toronto, continuing, 1872-79; then was with the Taylor Safe works, Toronto, for five years; traveled in Canada until he located in Detroit, 1885; became superintendent of the brass department of the Frontier Iron Works; associated with John G.
