TABOR, Nelson A.

Came to Detroit from Grand Rapids, Mich., 1887; was connected for fifteen years with Frederick Stearns & Co., manufacturing chemists, in charge of the company; identified with The Central Drug Co. since 1900, retail druggists, operating four stores in Detroit, one in Chicago and three in Grand Rapids. TALBOT, Charles R.
Charles R. Talbot, occupying a prominent and honored position in financial circles of Detroit as vice president of the National Bank of Commerce, is also identified with various other important business and corporate interests, many of which have profited greatly by the stimulus of his energy and cooperation. Mr. Talbot stands as an example of the opportunity offered for progress in Michigan. He is a native of Adrian, this state, born November 21, 1878, his parents being Henry C. and Jennie E. (Redmond) Talbot, the latter also a native of Adrian. The father was born in Ohio, snd in yoong manhood removed to Michigan, where he was married and then entered mercantile pursuits in which he continued in Carlton and Detroit throughout his active business life. He passed away in November, 1920. His wife passed away in Detroit in 1909. Their family numbered three sons, of whom Fred, is vice president of the Commonwealth Federal Savings Bank of Detroit; and Cash W. is president of the Talbot Lumber & Coal Company.
Charles Redmond Talbot is the eldest of the family and in early life was a pupil in the public schools of Carlton, Michigan, whilo later he continued his education in the Detroit high school, which he atttended for three years. His original position in the business world was that of bank messenger with the Detroit National Bank, and he was connected with the institution for twelve years, rifting through the various departments and positions from that of messenger to teller. He later entered the organization of tho National Bank of Commerce and became the assistant cashier in 1907. Still later he was made assistant to the president and In 1915 was elected the vice presidency, which position he bas since filled. The officers of tho bank arc: Richard P. Joy, president; William P. Hamilton, Henry H. Sanger and Charles R. Talbot, vice presidents; snd Samuel R. Kingston, cashier; while upon the board of directors are some of the most prominent business men of the city. Mr. Talbot has not confined his attention to the interests of the National Bank of Commerce, for he is also the president and one of the directors of the Motors Metals Company of Detroit, a director of the Talbot Lumber & Coal Company, a director of tho Trenton State Hank, a director of the Plymouth United Savings Bank, a director of the First Mortgage Bond Company of Detroit, and financially interested in many other business enterprises and industries of the state. Much of his attention, however, is given to the development of the National Bank of Commerce, which has shown remarkable growth in the years of its existence. Today tho bank ia capitalized for one million dollars, has surplus and undivided profits of more than one million, three hundred and fifty thousand dollars, and deposits amounting to thirty-one million dollars. On the 11th of September, 1905, Mr. Talbot was married to Miss Eleanor Smith, s daughter of Mr. and Mrs. George II. Smith of Detroit. The two children of this marriage are: Dorothy, who was born in Farmington, Michigan; and Eleanor, also a native of Farmiugton. Both are attending school. Mr. Talbot has a fine residence in Farmington, whero the family enjoys all the comforts of life, owing to his notable success in business, and where the hospitality of the home Is greatly enjoyed by many friends. The religious faith of the family is that of the Methodist Episcopal church, snd that Mr. Talbot enjoys social life is indicated in his connection with the Detroit, Detroit Athletic, Oakland Hills Country, Automobile Country and Meadow Country Clubs. His political endorsement is given to the republican party, and matters of progressive citizenship at all times receive his endorsement and support

TAEPKE, Albert
Vice president The Boydell Bros. White Lead and Color Co., manufacturers of paints and jobbers of window glass and painters’ supplies; born, Germany, Dec. 9, 1861; son of Charles and Jennie Taepke; came to Detroit with parents, 1865; educated in public schools of Detroit; married at Detroit, Oct. 2, 1883, Miss Rosie Pfeifer. Began as a boy, in 1876, with the Boydell Bros. and passed through various positions from the bottom up until 1891, when he was admitted to the firm, of which he is vice president and director. Dairyman; born, Lyons, N. Y,, Dec. 14, 1835; son of George W. and Hannah (Mathews) Towar; attended Oberlin College, 1852-54, Antioch College, 1855; Harvard Medical School, Boston, 1856-58, graduating, M. D., Mar. 10, 1858. Married at Chillicothe, O., Nov. 10, 1878, Maria Webb Cook. Began practice of medicine at Longwood, Can., 1858; removed to Pike's Peak gold mines, Colo., 1859; returned and entered 24th Michigan Volunteer Infantry as assistant surgeon, Mar., 1863; mustered out of service, June 30, 1865; appointed acting assistant surgeon, U. S. Army, 1869, and served at army posts and in Indian campaigns in Rocky Mountains until 1882, when returned to Detroit and entered milk and butter business with his father, in which has since continued. President, 1895-1906, Towar's Wayne County Creamery, Inc. (established, 1869), now director. Recreations: Farming and breeding of fine cattle. U. S. appraiser; born, Troy, Mich., (Oakland Co) July 28, 1836; son of Stephen Van Rennsselaer and Elizabeth (Conkling Trowbridge; educated in public schools and at Yale University; studied law in office of Hon. Sidney D. Miller, Detroit, and was admitted to the bar, 1858; married, Detroit, Apr. 8, 1862, Julia M. Buel. Practiced in partnership with Hon. A. W. Buel, 1859-62 , entered army as major Fifth Michigan Cavalry, 1862; lieutenant-colonel Tenth Michigan Cavalry, 1863; colonel, 1864, provost marshal-general East Tennessee, 1865; took an active part in pursuit of Jefferson Davis, and on return to Tennessee was assigned to command of the cavalry brigade of East Tennessee and remained until close of war; breveted brigadier-general- and major-general, Sept. 1, 1865, for faithful and meritorious services during the war. Was appointed inspector general of state troops by Gov. Bagley, 1873, served as collector of internal revenue, Ist Michigan district, 1875 to 1883; controller City of Detroit, 1883-85, resigning to become vice president of Wayne County Savings Bank; became private secretary to Hon. Luther Beecher, 1887, and after death of Mr. Beecher was appointed one of the administrators of the estate; treasurer Detroit College of Medicine for twenty years; U. S. appraiser since Mar., 1903.
