ZEIGEN, Frederic H., real estate and building contractor; born, Saginaw, Mich., Apr. 18, 1874; son of Cass and Marion (Weber) Zeigen; educated in public schools of Saginaw up to 1890; Ypsilanti High School, graduating, 1896; Ypsilanti State Normal College, graduating, 1899; Nashville College, Law Department, LL. B.; George Washington University, Washington, D. C., LL. D.; married at Ypsilanti, Aug. 20,1899, Myrtle Comer. Was superintendent public schools for several years after leaving college; established the Zeigen Real Estate Exchange, Detroit, 1901, and has since been engaged in real estate and building operations, averaging about fifty-five buildings per year, stores, factories and homes. President and general manager Zeigen Construction Co.; general manager Zeigen Real Estate Exchange; vice president and director Detroit Concrete Stone Co., Detroit Hydraulic Stone Co.; secretary and treasurer United Construction Co.; secretary Great Lakes Concrete Machinery Co.; treasurer Metropolitan Publishing Co.; director Great Lakes Concrete Co. Member Detroit Real Estate Board. Former captain of Light Infantry, Saginaw (1890-92); first lieutenant Adrian Volunteers Spanish-American War. Member National Educational Association, Michigan State Teachers’ Association. Republican. Methodist. Member Masonic order, Modern Woodmen of America. Recreation: Automobiling. Well known as writer of poems and short stories in magazines; also well known as composer of songs, words and music to "My Michigan," "God Bless Our Home," and other songs.
