Chemist; born, Detroit, June 14, 1857; son of William Duncan and Elizabeth Cass (Trowbridge) Wilkins; educated in Patterson's Private School, Cass Union School and Detroit High School; Ph. B., University of Michigan, 1878; studied at Heidelberg, 1879-82, and Munich, Germany, 1882 receiving degree of Ph. D., Heidelberg, 1882-83, Mary Ward. Began active career as chemist at Detroit, Nov. 9, 1887, chemist and superintendent, Luther (Mich.) Charcoal & Chemical Co., 1884; assayer and mill superintendent Canada Consolidated Gold Mining Co., Deloro, Ont., 1885; assistant to Andrew S. McGreath, chemist, Harrisburg, Pa., 1886-93; assayer and agent for Demmie & Avery, Foley's Camp Gold Mine, Shoal Lake, Ont., 1895; chemist, American Radiator Co., Detroit, 1896-1901; chemist, Solvay Process Co., since 1902.
