RANKIN PECK
, 55, president of the National Congress of Petroleum Retailers, died Wednesday (23 May 1951) after a short illness. He resided at 880 Lakeshore, Grosse Point Shores. Mr. Peck was born in Chatham, Ont., Sept. 4, 1895, and was educated there. Services will be at 2:30 p.m. Friday at the William R. Hamilton Co. with burial in Woodlawn Cemetery. Surviving are his wife, Ruth; a daughter, Mrs. Edwin Fisher; three sons, Rankin Jr., Francis and Eliot and five sisters.

Services for Rankin P. Peck, president of the National Congress of Petroleum Retailers and executive director of the Michigan Gasoline Dealers Assoc. will be held Friday at the William R. Hamilton Co. chapel, 3975 Cass. Mr. Peck, who was 56, died Wednesday in Henry Ford Hospital after a short illness. He lived at 880 Lake Shore Grosse Point Shores. Born in Chatham, Ontario., Mr. Peck moved to Detroit as a youth, first working for the U.S. Department of Commerce and later as a real estate operator, who also was interested in the problems of retail gasoline dealers.
His interest in the latter cause won him appointment in 1934 as petroleum code administrator for Michigan under teh National Recovery Act, a post he held two years. In 1936 he became executive director of the Michigan Gasoline Dealers Association. He was instrumental in 1937 in the passage of the Michigan Below-Cost Selling Act, aimed at preventing below-cost sales of gasoline.
In 1947 he became president of the National Congress of Petroleum Retailers, which he helped to found, and thus became a spokesman for 275,000 retail dealers in the US.
Survivong are his wife Ruth; a daughter Mrs. Edwin Fisher, and three sons, Rankin Jr., Francis and Eliot. Burial will be in Woodlawn Cemetery.
