Of the seven veterans who are buried in the Seward cemetery, and whose graves are decorated each Memorial Day by the members of the Fulda Legion, is Horace Hill, also known as "Uncle Hill", whose death occurred in 1884.

"Mr. Horace Hill, formerly of this place, but lately of Slayton, died Sunday at the residence of Mr James Lambert, at the the ripe old age of 76 years. Death was due to paralysis.

Grandpa Hill has been long and favorably known in this county, and leaves behind him a large circle of sincere friends to mourn his loss.

Mr. Hill who enlisted at the age of 50 years, was a musician of Company G of the 15th Wisconsin , at Beloit , Wisconsin , and served from October 26, 1861 to May 15, 1862, when he was discharged for disability. He was buried at the Seward cemetery with full military honors extended by the Fulda G.A.R. members.

Died--Horace Hill, aged nearly 76 years, "Uncle Hill" as he was familiarly called, came to this country several years ago; he was loved and respected by all, and for trustworthy and manly principles,he had no superior. A kind father, a true friend and an honest upright man, one, who of a truth, could say,"I have not an enemy on the face of the earth
