I. P. Fox Returns.

I.P. Fox assistant cashier of the Citizens National Bank, returned on Tuesday from his trip to the Pacific coast, after an absence of a month. He visited a large number of cities on the trip and reports having had a very good time. Among the principal towns visited were Bozeman, Montana, Spokane, Pasco, North Yakima, Seattle, and Tacoma, Washington, Portland, Salem, Ashland and other points in Oregon, coming home by way of Salt Lake City and Denver. He left Mr. Schraeder at Ashland . Geo. Voak of Brewster, who accompanied him on the trip, returned with him.

Miss Mable Bryden has been elected as principal of the Rushmore schools for the coming year. Prof. Jones who has had charge of the school for the last two years is to go to North Dakota .

Fulda Republican: Mrs. James Shanks, living southeast of town, was severely burned one day last week. She was burning up some rubbish and the straw mulching in the grove caught fire and in her exertion to put it out she became exhausted and would have burned to death had not help arrived when it did. 

F.H. Densmore has taken charge of the Wilmont Initiator and will endeavor to make a newspaper out of it.

NOBLES COUNTY NOTES

Indian Lake .  

Gust Nystrom had the misfortune to lose one of his fine driving horses last Saturday.  

Mrs. H. Larson is erecting a fine addition to her dwelling house on Pine Hill Farm.  

A real estate deal was closed last week whereby Albert and George Olund bought their fathers farm, the se1/4 sec. 28 Indian Lake

Mr. Peter Cedargren left last Friday for his home in Boone Iowa .  

Miss Pearl Nordberg of Sioux Falls, S. Dak., arrived last Friday remaining over Sunday with her grand parents.  

Mr. and Mrs. E. Nordquist left Monday morning for Mankato returning on the afternoon train.  

Lew Christensen and David Larson captured a den of foxes last Thursday containing five young ones and one old one.

John A. Saxon made a business trip to Ocheyedan , Iowa , last Tuesday.

Mr. John Olund of Clear Lake , Iowa , was transacting legal business here Friday, remaining over Sunday.  

Frank Saxon of Worthington took dinner with his wayside bachelor brother last Sunday.

Emil Larson lost one of his best horses last Thursday the loss is rather hard as Mr. Larson is just starting in farming this spring.

Mrs. Dr. Saxon returned to her home in Worthington last Saturday after spending a week with friends in the country.

George Olund returned home last Thursday from a two weeks visit in Iowa .

Charlie Toener arrived from Sioux Falls , S.D. , for a few weeks vacation and if he gets employment will remain this summer.

 

Reading .  

H.J. Ludlow of Worthington was here Monday making a delivery of fruit trees, shrubbery, etc. We are pleased to see our people going into fruit culture the way they are doing.

Banker R.J. Jones and G.T. Bullick one of our leading farmers, went to Canada on Monday on a land deal.  

A.R. Beilke made a business trip to Heron Lake on Monday.

A. Rust is in Illinois on a visit with relatives and friends.

Miss Anna Rust returned from Minneapolis on Friday, where she had been to study music.

The Farmer's Mutual Telephone Co, is about to extend its lines to the homes of C.L. Rowley, B.F. Kneise, John Buse and J.A. Dille.

Mr. Shafferberg has his restaurant in running order. This is a much needed institution in Reading .  

Mr. Cowan, our blacksmith, is kept very busy these days.

The funeral of Charles Tinnes took place from the residence of his parents Friday at 2 p.m. A great number of friends and relatives had gathered to witness the last sad rites of the deceased. The casket was draped in the American Flag and an abundence of cut flowers the last offering of many friends. The pall bearers were Comrades from the 15th Minnesota .

J. Marse and daughter, of Slayton , Minn. came down Thursday to be present at the funeral of C.P. Tinnes.

Grant Cross was in Worthington Thursday.

Dr. Gould, of Worthington , was here on business Thursday.

D J Tinnes of Northwood N Dak, came down Thursday to attend the funeral of his brother Charles.  

Captain Wm Wigham was at the county seat on business Thursday.

Arnold Esser, of Wilmont was in Adrian Friday.  

Bert Timmons left Tuesday morning for St Paul where he intends to engage in the carpenter trade with his Uncle, Wm Timmons.

Miss Mamie Hanson who teaches school at Redwood Falls was called here to be present at the funeral of C P Tinnes.  

Mrs. Chas Myius returned from Sioux City Friday.

Wm Tentler, of Lismore, was in Adrian Friday.

Everett Mohl and Ted Cooper went to Chicago Monday with four carloads of cattle belonging to Ed Cooper.

James Madden who represents Hecht & Zummock, Milwaukee , was home last week.

Mrs. C.B. Swanman conducted a special sale of millinery at Rushmore Tuesday and Wednesday.

Mr. Mike Pietz, the manager of the dry goods department in the big store, has sent in his resignation. Mr. Peitz expects to locate somewhere in South Dakota .

Rev. Hanson moved into the Sands residence on main street Wednesday.

The Faragher cottage recently vacated by Rev. Hanson is being painted and papered and put in readiness for Mr. Dumble, the new hardware man and family.  

Ray Abbye left for St Paul Monday to take examination for a position in U.S. civil service.

T.E. Alexander, from Owatonna , Minn. , is our new electrician and he arrived Monday.

Agent Shire of Prairie Junction, visited friends in the city Sunday afternoon.

Miss Maude Conrad was with Heron Lake friends Saturday and Sunday last.  

Mrs. Stanley Moore went to Sioux City , Iowa , Saturday, for a brief visit with friends.  

Miss Myrtle Walters, of Estherville , Iowa was a guest at the home of M. Mann this week.

Chas. E. Berry, who lives on the McBride farm, was in the city on business last Saturday.

Miss Esther Harding last Friday finished a term of school in the Voss district in Elk township.  

Miss Frankie Clark, teacher in the Heron Lake schools, spent Sunday with her parents and friends in this city.  

Mrs. F.M. Manson returned last Thursday from New York state, where she spent several months on a visit.  

P.H. Brown was up from Corwith , Iowa , for a day or two visit with his family, returning to Iowa Monday morning.  

A.R. Beilke, a leading merchant of Reading , passed through town Monday on his way home from a business trip to Heron Lake .  

Mankato Review: - Mrs. J.J. Kies, of Worthington is visiting in the city as the guest of her mother, Mrs. Thuemeier, of State street .

  H.J. Ludlow last week made large deliveries of nursery stock at Brewster, Rushmore and this city. He reports that his stock came in fine order.

  Mrs. W.M. Evans was called to Los Angeles , California , the first of the week by a telegram announcing the critical illness of her mother, Mrs. A.E. Lynd.

  The Christian Endeavor Society was entertained on Tuesday evening at the residence of Mr. and Mrs. E.V. Voak. A short business session was held after which the time was spent in a social way.

  Dr. Walker came over from Hot Springs S.D. Sunday night and on Monday he and Dr. Geyerman performed several operations. Dr. Walker left again for the Springs on Monday afternoon.

  J.F. Flynn went to Davenport on Tuesday to attend a meeting of the directors of the C.R. & N. Ry. Co. From there he will go to Chicago where he expects to buy several carloads of feeders to put on his farm north of town.

  The Euchre Club was entertained on Monday evening by Mrs. Harvey Rew and Mrs. F.R. Coughran, at the home of Mrs. Rew. A pleasant session is reported. Mrs. G.W. Wilson won the head prize and Mrs. A.R. Albertus the consolation prize.

  Luverne Journal: - The family of Mr. James Gibson arrived from Worthington last Thursday and remained until Monday, noon when they departed over the Omaha for Sioux City , Iowa , where they expect to remain until their home in Luverne will be ready. Mr. Gibson accompanied them to Sioux City and returned Tuesday morning.

  R.H. Dieckhoff is home on a three weeks vacation.

  Ole Ellingson of Indian Lake was in the city Wednesday.

  Mart Levine has bought the building now occupied by his saloon.

  Miss Lisle went to Sioux City Wednesday to visit her mother.

  Henry Haggard was in from Indian Lake Tuesday on a trading trip.

  Emil Larson of Indian Lake transacted business in the city Wednesday.

  Co F. is making arrangments to build a rifle range at the old brick yard.

  Druggist H.S. Meyers and bride returned on Monday from their wedding trip.

Mrs. W.C. Butcher of Estherville , Ia. , is here on a visit to her mother, Mrs. M. Levine.

Jas. Montgomery, a prominent Wilmont farmer, was in the city on business Tuesday.

Edwin L. Brickson of the Adrian state bank was a business visitor at the county seat Tuesday.

Cashier J.E. Briggs of the First National bank of Wilmont was in the city on business Tuesday.

Mrs. I.P. Fox returned on Saturday from a visit of several weeks at Sibley , Ia. , with her mother, Mrs. Wilbern.

Dr. F.E. Walker of Hot Springs , S.D. and Dr. DeCoster of Windom, were here the first of the week on professional business.

J.A. Albert of Luverne, a member of the firm of Albert & Rockwell, was here on a visit Sunday and Monday.

Laurence Esser, a hotel keeper of Ellsworth, is making a forty day sojourn at the county castle as the result of imbibing too freely.

E.H. Rich of Ft. Dodge , Ia. , a stockholder of the Worthington State Bank, was here the first of the week looking after business affairs.  

Mrs. O.E. Evans of Gowrie , Ia. , arrived Wednesday, and will keep house for her son, Banker W.M. Evans, during the absence of Mrs. Evans in California .

H.S. Jones came up from Spencer , Ia. , on Tuesday to attend a law suit in Justice Court in which he was defendant. The action was brought by Mrs. Netter to recover for services of a minor son.

Hon. Julius Schmall, of Redwood Falls , Republican candidate for state treasurer, was in Worthington Tuesday getting acquainted with our people. Mr. Schmall feels confident of success.

  Mr. and Mrs. S.B. Bedford, of Rushmore attended the Sunday School rally here last Sunday afternoon and evening. They stayed over until Monday, being guests at the residence of Rev. G.A. Cahoon.

Charles O. Sawyer, editor of the Lismore Leader, was a caller at the Advance office, Monday. He has been in charge of the Leader for only about a month but has made marked improvement in its appearance.

Mr. and Mrs. G.W. Roth visited in Sheldon last week.

Geo. D. Dayton, of Minneapolis , was here a couple of days the first of the week on business.

R.B. Beeson of Breckenridge a former prominent resident of Worthington , was here on business this week.

Grant Morrison yesterday took his son Harold to the hospital at Rochester to be operated on for appendicitis.  

The Tourist club will meet with Mrs. Jas. Mackay next Tuesday evening at 8 o'clock , for the annual business meeting.

Rev. Carl E. Oberg, pastor of the Swedish Baptist church, Indian Lake , made this office a welcome call Tuesday afternoon.

C.J. Paine, a prominent farmer of Hersey township, had business at the county seat Wednesday. Mr. Paine made the Advance a pleasant call.

W.C. Renshaw chairman of the town of Dewald , was in the city Wednesday appearing before the county board in the interest of his town in certain matters.  

Mr. and Mrs. E. Norquist went to Rochester last Saturday where Mrs. Norquist was subjected to a medical examination at the famous hospital. They returned on Tuesday.  

The School Board has employed Miss Lucile Way on the teaching staff for next year. Miss Way won the state oratorical contest this spring, and is now at Oberlin, O., representing Minnesota at the interstate oratorical contest. She graduates from the state U. this spring.

Mrs. C.P. Dolan visited in Sioux City last week.  

A.F. Dring of Loraine was in the city Saturday on a shopping trip.

Mrs. W.M. Evans went to Sioux City last week on a shopping trip.

Fred Riedesel a prominent Lorain farmer was in on business Tuesday.

Cashier Ned Jones of the State Bank made a business trip to Wilmont on Monday.

N.A. Arvidson, the hustling implement dealer of Brewster, was in the city on business Tuesday.

Webb Vincent, G.S. Ringland of Fort Dodge , and C. Korsland of Livermore , Ia. , were here the first of the week on business. They have an interest in one of the local banks.

Clyde Walbern, a former clerk in the store of Hart & Co., who is now on the road for the Cuddahy Packing Co., of Omaha , visited his family here last Saturday and Sunday.

Peter Craemer, of Adrian , passed through Worthington Wednesday on his way home from Alton , Ia. , where he had been to visit a son who is attending school there.

Mr. J. Bergstrom, aged and alone, living in a little house at the Swedish Baptist church, 2 miles east and 5 miles south of Worthington, Section 19 Indian Lake, has applied for and received admission to the Swedish Baptist Home for the Aged, Chicago, and desires to sell his household goods at his home, Saturday afternoon, May 5th, at one o'clock also the house and small shed. Let all attend and do an act of kindness to an aged man. -By order of committee.
