Mrs. Robert Free went to Sioux Falls Wednesday for a visit with her daughter, Mrs. E.A. Hazard.

Mrs. D.S. Hendricks, of Minneapolis , transacted business in Worthington on Tuesday of this week.

Mrs. C.A. Sundberg and daughter, are spending this week with friends in the neighborhood of the old farm.

Mr. and Mrs. J.R. Robson and son, Wesley went to Lake Park Wednesday for a visit with friends for a few days.

Mrs. Frank Anderson, of Sioux city , is visiting with friends in this city this week, having arrived here Wednesday.

A marriage license was issued on August 30th to Elmer A. Gardner and Miss Eva Montgomery, both of Brewster.

Miss Augusta Hegardt and Mrs. F.A. Tripp, of Round Lake , visited with friends in the city between trains Wednesday.

J. Enfield, fireman on the Omaha , who has been spending a week's vacation at Lincoln , Neb. , returned home Tuesday.

Miss Dora Stamm, who has been the guest of friends in Worthington for the past week, left Wednesday for her home at St. Paul .

Walter Denkmann and Miles Mahan came up from Round Lake Tuesday to take in the carnival returning home Wednesday morning.

Lee Humistor left Tuesday evening for the northern part of the state where he has secured a position as lineman in an electric light plant.

Miss May Kain, daughter of brakeman Wm. Kain of the Rock Island , went to Granger, Iowa Tuesday to visit relatives for a few days.

Leo Dolan accompanied A.E. Hart and son, Stewart, to St. Louis Monday afternoon, where the latter went to buy their fall stock of goods.

Mrs. C.M. Johnson, of Lodi , Wis. , who has been visiting for a week with her daughter, Mrs. Orin Carncross, departed for her home Wednesday.

A small boy of Albert Johnson, met with quite a painful accident Monday. While playing about he fell onto a piece [of] machinery and cut his face quite badly.

Harry Heath, who has been visiting with his aunt and uncle, Mr. and Mrs. Herman Peterson for a week, returned Wednesday to his home at Round Lake .

Miss May Thomas of Windom, was the guest of friends in Worthington between trains Wednesday while on her way home from an outing at Spirit Lake .

Ernest Thompson, son of Mr. and Mrs. Oliver Thompson, of Indian Lake , went to Minneapolis Tuesday, where he will take a course in a business college.

Mrs. J.E. Brandt and three children, who have been visiting for a week with her brother-in-law, W.J. Long and family, left Monday for their home at Clinton , Iowa .

The Independent Order of Odd Fellows beginning with Tuesday evening, September 6th, will hold their meetings in the Eagle hall over Sterling Bros. clothing store.

John Barton, who for the past several months has made his home with his brother-in-law, Henry Haggard, left Wednesday for Winona for a three weeks' visit with relatives.

The Missionary society of the Union Congregational church met this week Tuesday at the home of Mrs. H.J. Ludlow and a very interesting program was enjoyed by those present.

County Superintendent L.W. Abbott was a business visitor to Ellsworth Tuesday.

R.J. Soultes, of Clarion, Iowa , was in the city Tuesday looking after land interests.

Mrs. C.A. Stillwell, of Spirit Lake , is this week the guest of her sister, Mrs. M.E. Fish.

Harry Tripp is enjoying a visit this week from his friend, George Merey, of Marshalltown , this state.

Bruce Yale went to Round Lake Tuesday on business connected with his farm at that place.

Charlie Elwood and wife, of Texas , visited several days last week with Mr. and Mrs. C.A. Sundberg of this city.

Miss Bonnie Moore arrived Wednesday from Minneapolis for a visit with her aunt and uncle, Mr. and Mrs. C.W.W. Dow.

Miss Marjorie Shell and Mrs. Lee Shell and son, Burton , left Wednesday for Minneapolis to visit relatives for a week.

John Mangleson and Andy Gustafson, of Round Lake, attended lodge meeting of the Odd Fellows here Tuesday evening.

Mrs. Alex Montgomery is visiting this week with her parents, Mr. and Mrs. F.L. Hagerman and family, at Brewster.

Rev. L.S. Murphy, of Madison , Minn. , will preach in the Congregational church on Sunday, September 5th, both morning and evening.

Mr. and Mrs. A.R. Albertus and daughter and Mr. and Mrs. Fred Humiston made an auto trip to Sioux Falls Sunday in Albertus' Buick.

Miss Mabel Atherton returned Wednesday to her home at Reading from Winnebago City where she had been to attend the funeral of a friend.

Thos. Jones, who has been employed at the C.J. Paine farm for the past three years, went to Brewster, Wednesday for a short visit with friends.

On account of the inclement weather the excursion which was to have run from here to Rock Rapids for the Lyon County Fair yesterday was called off.

A.J. Osborne, who is employed at Sunnyside store in this city, this week Wednesday moved his family here from Lake Wilson and will make Worthington their future home.

Miss Sadie Duel, who has been visiting for the past week with friends at Adrian , returned home Wednesday accompanied by Miss Nellie Barker, who will be her guest until Saturday.

Charles Johnson accompanied Miss Beulah Fletcher to her home in this city from Spencer , Iowa , where she has been visiting for the past week, and will be the guests of friends here for a short time.

About a dozen of the friends of Miss Grace Speilman gathered at her home in Clay addition last Tuesday evening and presently surprised her. Miss Speilman leaves this week for Minneapolis , where she has secured a position as stenographer and the gathering at her home was a sort of farewell party.

Mrs. Mary Gottschalk, of Janesville , Minn. , visited a few days this week at the home of her sister, Mrs. C.A. Pederson in this city. She was on her way home from Lane , S.D. , where she had been to attend the funeral of her sister, who died at that place last week.

Charles Haggard left Wednesday for Ames , Iowa , where he will take a course in veterinarian surgery in the college at that place. Last year he completed one year of the academic course at the state university, but thinking he would like that line of work, he has made the change of courses.

John Rius, a farmer residing west of town, met with an accident Monday, which resulted in fracturing two ribs. While riding in a hay rack, he fell through a hole in the bottom of the wagon, with the consequence as above stated.

Brick work was this week begun on the new armory building and excavations are about completed for the new High School. These two institutions, when constructed, will speak well for the progressiveness of our beautiful little city.

Mrs. A.J. Olund, who has been visiting a few days this week with her brother, O.H. Nystrom, left Wednesday for her home at Bigelow, accompanied by her nephew, Lawrence Nystrom who will visit with his aunt until Saturday.

Mrs. R.H. Doe and Mrs. Ivan Erickson, of Adrian , were in the city between trains Saturday to meet the former's daughter, Miss Luna, who has been visiting in Minneapolis for nearly six weeks, and who returned home that day.

Mrs. William Holmes, nee Miss Celia Farman, formerly a Worthington girl, but who moved from here about twenty-eight years ago to Kansas City, left Friday afternoon for her home after several days visit at the home of Mrs. Daniel Shell.

Fred Becker and his sister, Mrs. Nannie Abbott, who have been visiting for a week at the L.W. Abbott home, departed Saturday for the former's home in LeMars, where the latter will visit for a short time before returning to her home in San Francisco , Cal .

Supt. J.F. Atkinson and wife of the Chicago Boys Club, who have been spending the past month in Worthington camping at the Chautauqua grounds and visiting with friends, returned Monday to resume their work among the homeless urchins of the slums of Chicago .

Miss Laura Cayforth, of the W.C.T.U. of Sioux Falls, who has been lecturing for the past two weeks in the neighboring towns on the subject, "Types of Girls" was in our city Wednesday between trains, while on her way to Pound [Round?] Lake from Brewster, where she lectured last week.

Bert McMillen, formerly of Luverne, and wife, nee Miss Lottie Moeller, of here, left Saturday for Chicago , where he has secured employment as a stenographer with a large wholesale house. They have been married but two weeks and have been visiting in this city at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Ed. Edwards.

Mrs. R.F. Merrick, of Whittier , Cal. , who has been visiting with her brother, S.B. Bedford at Rushmore for a week, was accompanied as far as Sioux City by her sister, Mrs. A.B. McChord, of Rushmore, where they visited friends for a few days, before the latter returned to her western home.

J.B. Cross, the Bigelow stone mason, accompanied by F.L. Lain, of that place, were in Worthington Friday to consult a physician concerning a case of appendicitis, with which the former is afflicted. It was not deemed necessary that he should submit to an operation at present, but may in the course of a few weeks.

Mr. and Mrs. John A. Peterson, who have been visiting with their daughter, Mrs. E.P. Johnson, and husband and family in Indian Lake for some time, departed Wednesday, accompanied by their grand-daughter, Miss Myrtie Johnson, for their home at Regan, N.D., at which place the latter will attend school this fall.

The many friends of Mr. and Mrs. W.B. Stoutemyer will be pleased to hear that their daughter, who has been so seriously ill as not to be expected to live, suffering with a complication of the whooping cough and pneumonia, had improved considerable on Wednesday and good hopes of her complete recovery in the near future are being entertained.

H. Olberding, of Lismore accompanied his mother, Mrs. Mary Olberding, as far as Sioux City Saturday, the latter being on her way to her home at Arcadia , Iowa . She is taking home with her her son's infant child, Louise, who is now an orphan, having recently been bereft of her mother, whose husband is proprietor of a general store in Lismore.

Miss Esther Sheldon returned Wednesday afternoon to her home at Sioux Falls after a visit with her aunt, Mrs. J.W. Baker. The latter, who having but a few hours before the departure of the train the same afternoon received a message announcing that her son, George, who is visiting there, had broken his arm, accompanied her niece to that place.

Monday morning at 11:45 as the Rock Island passenger was coming in from the north, the train ran over five sheep belonging to George Goodrich, killing four outright and injuring the other one badly. It appears that the sheep had broken through the pasture fence into the railroad right-of-way, and when the train approached, one of the animals became frightened and rushed onto the track, the others following their leader as is the characteristic of sheep.

Prof. Albert Damon, of Hokin, Wis. , formerly a Worthington boy, was here the first of the week calling on friends and acquaintances. Albert has been principal of the schools at Hokin the past three years and has been engaged for the current school year. He is making good in his profession, which will be good news to his many Worthington friends.

Mr. and Mrs. E.S. Hutton and two daughters, of Lincoln , Neb. , are spending a three weeks outing at this place and while here are occupying the Moberly dwelling near the lake shore. Mrs. Hutton, nee Miss Genie McMillen, was formerly of Worthington , having left the city about twenty-four years ago and her father was one of the oldest settlers in the county.

Louis Caloud, who has been employed as night clerk at the Worthington Hotel for several months, severed his connection with that establishment last Friday and left the same day for Minneapolis , where he expects to take a course in a business college. The position thus vacated has been filled by William Kahler, of Rochester , who for a number of years conducted a hotel at Madison , Minn.

Miss Edna Everett, sister of Mrs. L.R. Gholz, who has been visiting with the former all summer, and C.a. Bullen, of Pueblo, Col., who has been the guest of his uncle, Mr. Gholz for a week, accompanied by Mr. and Mrs. Gholz, went to Spirit Lake Saturday for an outing over Sunday. From there Miss Everett will go to Ames , Iowa , where she will attend school during the fall term.

Mr. and Mrs. Jack Creuser, of Judith Gap, Mont., who have been the guests of her sister, Mrs. J.W. Baker for nearly a week, left Saturday for Sioux Falls where they will visit other relatives for a few days before returning to their western home. They were accompanied as far as Sioux Falls by George Baker, son of the latter, who will visit his grand-parents, Mr. and Mrs. J.S. Lutz for a week.

 Mrs. M.A. Torry, who has been staying with her daughter, Mrs. Ray Humiston for nearly a year, left Monday afternoon, accompanied by her grand-daughter, Miss Kathryn Humiston, for Minneapolis, where they will visit relatives for a week at the end of which time Mrs. Torry leaves for Chicago, where she will visit with one of her sons for an indefinite period and Kathryn will return home in time to attend school which opens Sept. 6th.

Wednesday evening about twelve friends of Mr. and Mrs. J.H. James assembled at their home to partake of a six o'clock dinner, the occasion being their fifteenth wedding anniversary. It was their intention not to tell their friends the real significance of the party until all had arrived, but some member of the company was good at remembering dates and the consequence was that Mr. and Mrs. James were presented with a most beautiful cut glass fruit dish to commemorate their crystal wedding anniversary.

Albert Thomas and Miss Myrtle Peterson, both of Little Rock township, were united in marriage Friday afternoon at 2;30 o'clock in the clerk of courts office in the court house by Rev. G.W. Babcock, of Rushmore. They were accompanied by Miss Laura Thomas, sister of the groom, who acted as bridesmaid, and Harry Peterson, brother of the bride, who was best man. The only guest present at the ceremony was Mrs. M.H. Mansholt, of Rushmore, who is an aunt of the bride. The young couple will reside on a farm near Rushmore.

Auctioneer K. DeBerg, of Kesley , Iowa , was the guest of E.M. Johnson from Monday until Tuesday when ____ for his home.

Chas. Williams, of Hinckley , Minn. , who has been the guest of the Fred Cass family for a few days, returned to his home Tuesday.

Mrs. Claude White returned Saturday evening from LeMars, where she has been spending a week at the home of Chas. Wass and wife.

Miss Ethel Mitchell, who has been visiting for several days with her aunt, Mrs. J.G. Mitchell, in this city, returned Tuesday to her home at Adrian .

Miss Julia DeVaney, who has been spending a three weeks' visit with relatives in this city, left Tuesday afternoon for Dell Rapids, S.D., her home town.

Nick Weinandt, of Minneapolis , arrived in Worthington Tuesday afternoon and will spend a few days renewing old acquaintances and transacting business.

Mrs. Frank Day and two children, of Sioux City , who have been the guests of Mr. and Mrs. A.w. Earle for a week, departed Tuesday for their Iowa home.

The Birthday club met this week Tuesday at the home of Mrs. Wm. DeVaney, who proved to be a most royal hostess, as all present enjoyed themselves immensely.

Mr. and Mrs. M. Janse, who have been visiting with relatives in Nobles county for the past week, returned Tuesday afternoon to their home at LeMars , Iowa .

Nels Langseth, one of the prosperous farmers of Indian Lake , left Tuesday for Moorton , N.D. , where he will visit with his brother, Hans, who has a farm near that place.

Miss Anna Graves arrived this week from Bigelow and will stay with her aunt and uncle, Mr. and Mrs. C.W.W. Dow, and attend school, this being her senior year at high school.

Miss Helen Boyle came over from Adrian Tuesday afternoon to accompany her sister, Miss Margaret, home, who has been spending a week with their sister, Mrs. M. Ronan, at Reading .

Mrs. W.H. Prideaux and daughter, Mrs. A. Hanson and granddaughter Ruth Hanson, of Adrian , passed through the city Tuesday on their way to Dodgeville , Wis. , for a visit with relatives.

Mrs. R.L. Rumsey and four children, of El Central [El Centro?], Cal., who have been the guest at the home of her brother, Mark Marden, for a week, went to Round Lake Tuesday, accompanied by the latter's son, Edward, where they will visit Mrs. Frank Eastman for a couple days.

 Wm. Hibbard, who was at one time engaged in the meat market business in Worthington , but who is now located at Pecatonica , Ill. , is visiting this week with his sister-in-law, Mrs. Dow Mitchell and family, in this city.

Mr. and Mrs. E.W. Allen and two children, who have been visiting for a week with his parents, Mr. and Mrs. E.G. Allen and her mother, Mrs. A. Anderson, left Tuesday afternoon for their home in Sioux Falls.

Misses Elizabeth and Ida Beeler, who have been employed in private homes in this city for some time, left Tuesday for Walnut Grove , Minn. , where they will visit for a month with their sister, Mrs. Chas. Hendrickson.

Mrs. Julia Hensel, who is to be instructor in Latin at the high school again this year, arrived Friday afternoon with her little daughter Virginia from Royalton and is enjoying a very pleasant visit with friends this week before school opens.

J.T. Havendor, who recently closed the deal for an exchange of the Fred Mohl property at Adrian , passed through this city Tuesday en route to Kirkville , Mo. , where he formerly resided and will leave Adrian Wednesday for St. Paul , which place they will make their future home.

Mrs. C.J. Johns and daughter, Juanita, and son, Clifford, of Slayton, visited friends in Worthington a couple of days last week. On Saturday they left for Watertown , S.D. , to which place they are moving. The family formerly resided in this city, Mr. Johns being manager of an elevator, but now he is traveling for the Kasota Elevator Co., with headquarters at Watertown , and it makes it more convenient for him to have his family living at that place.

A very queer co-incidence took place at the City Hospital last Friday morning about two o'clock, at which time both the telephone and door bells were sounded and upon responding to the calls it was found that in both instances announcement was made of births that had taken place that morning. One announcement was the arrival of a little baby girl in the home of Alfred Albright, who is teamster at the tile factory, while the other announced the birth of a boy to Mr. and Mrs. William Myer, who reside south of town.

Geo. Bonde, the Summit Lake township auctioneer and stock man, called at the Advance-Herald office Wednesday evening and arranged with us to get out his catalogue and other printed matter advertising his big sale of O.I.C. swine which he will hold at his farm on Oct. 21st. Mr. Bonde has one of the finest herds of O.I.C. swine to be found in this part of the country and on Oct. 21st he will offer fifty head at public auction. The stock is all registered and of the best. The farmers of Nobles county should not let one of these hogs go out side of the county. His catalogue will be ready about Sept. 25 and any one wishing one of them will be accommodated by addressing Mr. Bonde at Reading .

 Mrs. Adolph Thomte returned last Friday evening from Lisbon , N.D. , and will visit a couple of weeks with her parents Mr. and Mrs. M.J. Bryan. Mr. Thomte is at present employed in a barber shop at Lisbon , but has arranged to engage in the clothing business later in the fall. While here Mrs. Thomte will pack their household goods for shipment and they will go to housekeeping as soon as they can secure a house, but dwellings are very scarce in that place and it may be some time before they can secure one. Mr. and Mrs. Thomte have many friends in Worthington who regret to have them leave here, but who will wish them success in their new home.

Rev. Oliver Stephenson, student from the McCormick Seminary of Chicago, who has had charge of the Presbyterian church at Reading for the past three months, passed through our city Tuesday on his way to Chicago, from which place he goes to Burgettstown, Pa., for a short visit with his parents, after which it is his intention to return to the school and complete the course which he began last year. Mr. Stephenson has been a faithful minister and his many friends in Reading and vicinity regret to have him leave their community, but who extend him their heartiest wishes wherever he may be called to serve. Last Sunday evening an extraordinarily large crowd gathered at the church to listen to his farewell sermon, which was very ably delivered and in which he made a most favorable and indelible impression on the minds of his audience.

Arthur Anderson went to Sioux Falls Monday to consult an eye specialist concerning his eyes, which are in rather bad shape.

Mrs. A.C. Dickens returned last Friday from an extended visit with her parents and other relatives at Webster City, Iowa.

Mr. and Mrs. J.H. Scott went to Rushmore Monday afternoon to visit at the home of his sister, Mrs. J.H. Bryden for a few days.

Mr. and Mrs. G.W. Kinch and son, Harry, of Altoona, Pa., who have been visiting at the home of his sister, Mrs. G.T. Bulick, near Reading, for two weeks, returned to their eastern home Monday.

C.E. Sims manager of the tile factory and crew of men have been employed at Round Lake the past two weeks building a 24-foot concrete bridge at that place.

Mrs. W.C. Blake, of Eagle Grove , Iowa , who has been the guest of Mrs. Chas. Hayes in this city for several days, returned to her home Friday afternoon.

Mrs. Chas. A. Gordon and daughter, Frances, who have been spending a month's vacation with friends and relatives at Kalamazoo , Mich. , returned home Saturday.

William Wahl, of Streator , Ill. , who has been here for the past two weeks looking after land interests in this county, left Friday afternoon for his home at that place.

Miss Bertha Wagner, of Heron Lake , visited between trains Saturday with her friend, Miss Ella Guernsey, while on her way to Adrian , where she will remain for some weeks.

E.C. Moses, of Waterloo , Iowa , machinist for the Stewart Schenk Co., was in Worthington last Friday overhauling and making some repairs in the machinery at the tile factory.

Mrs. S.B. Bedford and her sister, Mrs. R.F. Merrick, of Whittier , Cal. , who have been the guests of Mrs. H.J. Ludlow the past week, left Friday for Rushmore, the former's home.

Miss Mary Wiley, of Jackson , visited between trains Saturday with Mrs. Wm. Shrader, while on her way to Wilburn , Wash. , where she will teach in a grade school this coming term.

Miss Louis Habeck, who has been spending a week with her parents at Round Lake , returned to Worthington Saturday to resume her duties as waitress at the Nels Nelson restaurant.

Mrs. C.W.W. Dow, who has been visiting for a week with her daughter, Mrs. Alex Walker, at Magnolia, returned home Saturday, accompanied by the latter who will visit here for a few days.

Mrs. Wm. Kindred and daughter, of Omaha , and Messrs. Thomas and Welcome Faulk, of Luverne, arrived here Sunday afternoon for a visit this week at the home of Ben Potter and family.

Miss Adelia Hawkinson, of Parker's Prairie, who has been guest of the Misses Ella and Anna Olson for the past two weeks, left Saturday for Luverne to visit her uncle, Dr. J.W. Hawkinson.

Clyde Fronk went to St. Peter Saturday to visit over Sunday with his father, who is confined at the hospital at that place. He states that his father is getting along nicely and is recovering his mind.

John Utz, a farmer residing near Fulda , departed Saturday from this city, via the Rock Island , for Dwight , Ill. , to which place he was called to attend the funeral of an aunt, who died there on Friday.

Mrs. J. Anton and daughter, Lyda, of Waterloo, Iowa, who were in attendance at the marriage of Harry Anton and Miss Adeline Shuck on Wednesday of last week, returned to their home on Friday.

Mrs. Selina Martin, who has been visiting for the past two months with her mother, Mrs. F.M. Parent at Somerset , Wis. , returned to Worthington Monday afternoon and will spend the winter here.

Van Volkenberg, jr., whose father was formerly in the restaurant business at this place, but who is now located at Sioux City , was in the city Sunday between trains, enroute to St. James on a business mission.

Misses Nora and Winnie Usrud, of Duluth , arrived in this city Sunday afternoon from Seattle , Wash. , where they had been to take in the exposition, and were the guests of Miss Laura Pepple for a few days.

Mrs. G.H. Doeden, who resides south of town, and her sister, Miss Mary Katie, of Jackson, who has been her guest for a week, left on Saturday for West Bend, Iowa, where they will visit friends for a short time.

J.G. Murphy, of Adrian , was in Worthington Monday on business connected with his office as county commissioner. He was accompanied here by Miss Mary Brabender and both returned home the same afternoon.

Mrs. A.J. King and children, Myrom and Miss Nina, Thorne Tallman and Miss Marjorie Bell, of Kansas City , who have been spending a two weeks' visit with the M.P. Mann family, returned Saturday to their homes.

Mr. and Mrs. Harry Anton departed Saturday morning for Waterloo , Iowa , where they will visit his parents for a few days and from there they will go to LaPorte City , near which place they will take up their residence on a farm.

Rev. G. Schmidt, of the German Lutheran church, of Rushmore, called upon friends in this city Saturday between trains, while enroute to Ormsby , Minn. , where he occupied the pulpit in a church of the same denomination Sunday.

Miss Dora Sell, of Adrian , was in the city between trains Saturday, enroute to Sandstone, Minn. , where she will teach in the public schools, which are under the direction this year of Prof. H. Anderson, formerly principal of the Adrian schools.

Ervin Smith and Harm Rogers, who reside near Reading , departed Saturday for Waterloo , Iowa , where they will visit with relatives for a few days, after which they will go to Mount Morris , Ill. , where they will attend a Brethern school.

J.M. Lytle, postmaster at Washington , Iowa , renewed old acquaintances in this city Friday between trains, while on his way home from Rushmore, where he had been looking after land interests. About twenty years ago he was employed as a carpenter in this city.

Mrs. Katie Kain went to Sheldon , Iowa , Saturday, where she will visit relatives for several weeks. she went there with the intent also of visiting with her son, Will, over Sunday, who went to that place Thursday and who is soon to leave for Hammond , Ill. , where he has employment.
