MRS. WM. COOP [COPP] DIES
Wife of Former Pastor of Methodist Church Here Passes Away

Mrs. Wm. Copp died Saturday morning, Dec. 18, at her home in Jackson , having been taken suddenly ill at seven o'clock that same morning, soon passing into unconsciousness, from which she never recovered.

The previous afternoon an entertainment had been given at the home of her daughter, Mrs. George R. Moore in the former's honor and in the evening Mrs. Copp retired in apparently good spirits. Mrs. Copp was nearly 77 years of age.

Mrs. Moore took the body to Ottumwa , Iowa , where interment was made in the family lot beside her husband, Rev. William Copp, who died about seven years ago. Rev. Copp was pastor of the Methodist church in this city at the time of the completion of the old Methodist church in Worthington , in the building of which he assisted materially.

Mr. and Mrs. P.D. Peterson moved to Worthington last week from Westbrook. Mr. Peterson is traveling in South Dakota and Southern Minnesota .

Miss Emma Teitenberg of Wilmont left Monday for Mankato to resume her studies at the Mankato Commercial college.

N. Teitenberg of Wilmont passed through the city Monday, while on his way to the twin cities, where he will be the guest of friends for several days.

Mr. and Mrs. E.J. Helmick returned Saturday from Sioux Falls , where they have been spending the holidays with friends. They were also present at an annual banquet given by the Manchester Biscuit company of that city to its traveling representatives, Mr. Helmick being one of them.

Births

Boy, at seven o'clock New Year's morning to Mr. and Mrs. Morrill Ramage.

New Year's eve, a girl arrived at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Martin Bergstrand, who reside south of town.

To Mr. and Mrs. Henry Metzgar, a girl on Dec. 31, 19 09 .

Frank Turner made a business trip to Heron Lake Monday.

Miss Grace Rankin went to Rushmore Monday, where she has employment.

J.H. James started on the road again Monday for a Chicago firm after spending the holidays with his family in this city.

C.O. Ford, who sprained his back in helping with the arrangements at the armory for the meetings was in bed for several days.

William and Bennie Thompson of Rushmore were in Worthington between trains Monday having some dental work done.

John Wood, who is traveling for a Milwaukee firm has been spending the holidays with his family in this city. He resumed his duties on the road Monday.

Matt Jensen and daughter, Miss Mabel of Rushmore changed cars here Monday, while on their way to Sheldon, where they will visit friends for a short time.

Misses Emma and Grace Riss, who have been visiting their uncle, John Riss, who resides west of Worthington , returned Monday to their home at Steen , Minn.

G.H. Doeden returned Tuesday from Lakefield, where he and his wife have been visiting relatives for some time. Mrs. Doeden will return home the latter part of this week.

August Anderson who has been visiting his daughter, Mrs. F. Anderson and sister, Mrs. Carl Lindstrom in this city for several days, returned Tuesday to his home at Valley Springs , S.D.

Mr. and Mrs. J.A. Cashel and son, Master Charles Roger, returned Monday from Winona , where they have been spending the holidays with Mr. Cashel's mother, Mrs. M.E. Cashel.

Miss Duchess Goodenough was here between trains Monday, enroute to Minneapolis . She is a student of the university and has been spending the holidays with her mother at Adrian .

Dr. J.W. Gould of Fairmont, father of Dr. J.N. Gould of this city and Mrs. W.C. Carver, a cousin of the latter, who have been spending New Year's in this city, returned Monday to their home.

Mr. and Mrs. G.H. Allen and two children, who have been visiting his parents, Mr. and Mrs. E.G. Allen in this city for the past two weeks, departed Monday afternoon for their home at Aberdeen, S.D.

Dr. L.I. Aldrich and wife were in this city for a few hours Monday, while on their way to Rushmore, they having been visiting friends and relatives for several days at Clear Lake , Iowa , Mr. Aldrich's old home.

Irvin Richards went to Fulda Monday for a visit with his daughter, Mrs. Pearl King. Mr. and Mrs. King will move this week to the Humiston farm west of town and Mr. Richards went to Fulda to assist them in moving.

Mrs. A.R. Albertus and daughter, Miss Jean, arrived home Monday from Jackson , where they have been spending the holidays. They were accompanied home by Mrs. Albertus' cousin, Miss Kathryn Morris, who will visit here for several days.

Messrs. Kenneth Rice, Everett Lindgren, James McKenzie, Carl Gowin and Everett Mohl of Adrian were shaking hands with friends at the depot in this city Monday, while on their way to Minneapolis , where they will resume their studies at the state university.

John Eggleston, who last week took the examination for fireman on the Omaha was successful, and now has the run on 81 and 82, between here and Mitchell. He was taken suddenly ill at Sioux Falls Monday and returned to Worthington that night, and since has not been able to continue his run.

George Bonde of Reading was a visitor to the county seat Saturday.

Mrs. Way of Brewster was calling on friends in Worthington Saturday.

Eddie Hein of Brewster visited over Sunday with his aunt and uncle, Mr. and Mrs. Geo. Pfarrer in this city.

Mr. and Mrs. Newton and family came over from Luverne Saturday and visited until Monday afternoon at the homes of Charles and Wilson Abbott in this city. Mrs. Newton is a sister of the latter.

The Brotherhood of American Yeomen will have Installation of officers at their regular meeting, January 17th, 1910 . All members are urged to be present as there will be much for the good of the order.

Owing to the fact that I am going to Davenport for a post graduate course in the Chiropractic school there, I will rent my office rooms furnished to roomers and also the residence furnished or empty, within two weeks. -A. Sullwold, D.C.

Mrs. Gertrude K. Bohring, a graduate of the Frances Willard Memorial hospital of Chicago , arrived in Worthington Tuesday to accept the position as head nurse in the hospital. Mrs. Bohring has had much experience as a nurse and comes here well recommended.

A letter received in this city some days ago from Chicago states that Mrs. Stewart is again enjoying good health. Mr. Stewart also states that he is the recipient of a new model bathing suit which he intends to introduce here next summer to bathers in Okabena lake.

Miss Mildred Thomas and brother, Lyle, visited in Worthington Wednesday afternoon at the L.H. Beckley home. Miss Thomas is teacher of a school near Easton , and Lyle is employed in Chicago . From here they went to Sibley to visit a aunt for a short time before resuming their respective duties.

Miss chloe Anderson of Org went to Wilmar Saturday morning where she will visit relatives for a few days.

Clerk of Court F.L. Humiston left Monday for Southern Texas , where he has large land holdings.

Nels Olson and wife departed Monday for Oakland , Neb. , where they will visit relatives.

Solon Renshaw of Rushmore was the guest of Reuben Oakes in this city over Sunday.

Reuben Oakes was the guest of friends at Bigelow Monday of this week.

Rev. Ralph Carleton of the M.E. church went to Rushmore Monday afternoon, where he lectured in the evening at a union meeting of the churches.

Mrs. J.O. Gilbertson and child arrived Monday from Pipestone for a visit with her aunt and uncle, Mr. and Mrs. L.W. Abbott.

William Loveless and George Lawson visited with friends and attended the band concert at the Adrian opera house Saturday evening.

H. Stammann and Elert Ellefson of Hardwick and A.H. Miller of Lismore passed through this city Monday on their way to Mankato , where they are students of the Commercial college.

Father Bartholemew visited a few days this week with Father Sherman in this city.

E. Fish was confined to his home Wednesday of this week, being under the weather.

Tomorrow night, (Saturday) the Degree of Honor will hold installation of officers. All members are requested to be present.

J.J. Kies went to Grundy Center , Iowa , on Monday on a business trip. J.S. Kies left for the same place on Wednesday morning.

Mrs. L.P. Free and daughter, Miss Roberta, returned Monday from Sioux Falls , where they have been visiting relatives since Christmas.

Mrs. E.C. Furgeson is this week visiting with her daughter, Mrs. P.J. Sullivan at Brewster.

W.W. Buss went to Sibley Monday afternoon, where he had business.

Mr. and Mrs. C.E. Marr left Tuesday afternoon for Elk City , Okla. , for a visit with her daughter, Mrs. C. Lentz.

David Lutterman, who has been visiting his mother, Mrs. H. Lutterman at Wilmont for several days, returned Monday to his home at Sibley.

O.S. Holmberg of Round Lake visited Monday at the P.J. Nystrom home in this city.

Oscar Olson, who has been visiting relatives at Slayton since Christmas, returned to Worthington Monday.

Miss Kitty Chaney returned Monday from Dundee , where she has been spending the holidays with her parents.

Henry Boetcher went to Sioux City Tuesday, where he will take examinations for fireman on the Omaha .

Albert Voss of Bigelow passed through this city Wednesday on his way to Minneapolis , where he went on a business trip.

Seven new students were enrolled in the schools Monday of this week, they being Charles Long, Ethel, Stella and Ralph Stonesifer, William and Ellsworth Patterson and Axel Olson.

Miss Carrie M. Kinley of Tama , Ia. , arrived in this city Monday to assist in the hospital for a couple of weeks. She will return home in a short time to care for her mother, who has been sick since Miss Kinley was called from Worthington last March to her bedside.

Mr. and Mrs. G.R. Lawrence visited friends at Mount Vernon , this state, a number of days the fore part of the week. From there they went to Chicago , where they will combine business with pleasure, visiting with friends and at the same time Mr. Lawrence will purchase additional stock for his store.

Z. Nerness was in the city for several hours Wednesday, while on his way to Windom on business. Last Friday Mr. Nerness had the misfortune to upset with a load of hay, and narrowly escaped breaking his neck. The cords in his neck were badly wrenched and he is yet suffering from the effects of the fall.

Miss Blanche Donahue arrived in the city Monday from Pipestone where she has been the guest of friends during the holidays. She visited here several days at the home of Miss Jennie Beckley, and on Monday and Tuesday paid a visit to the high school, in which she was instructor of science last year. She is this year teaching that subject in the high school at Mason City , Iowa .

A marriage license was this week issued to John A. Nowah of Ramsey county, this state, and Miss Grace Brown of Nobles county.

Arthur Beede arrived in Worthington Tuesday from Waucon , Iowa , where he has been visiting relatives for several days. He will spend a few days with his sister, Mrs. L.W. Abbott here, before returning to his home at Rushville , Neb.

Mrs. A.N. Carpenter returned Tuesday morning from Minneapolis , where she has been at the bedside of her only brother, T.J. Stafford, who has been sick for some weeks and who died New Year's morning.

R.S. Uden went to Mankato Monday with the view of looking up a new location.

Mrs. J.K. Baker and son, Berry , who have been the guests of relatives at Waterloo , Iowa , for the past two weeks, returned home Tuesday afternoon.

Mrs. Roy Lewis went to Mankato Monday to again take up her course in the normal, after spending the holidays with her parents, Mr. and Mrs. James Montgomery in this city.

A.A. Jenkins of Round Lake was in the city between trains Monday while on his way to Jackson , where he has business at the district court which convenes January 11th.

Mrs. Emma Webster of Ocheyedan , Iowa , who has been visiting her daughter, Mrs. J.A. Snyder in this city since Saturday, returned home Monday.

Mr. and Mrs. Albert Brodine and two children arrived in this city Monday from Sioux City , and will spend several weeks at the home of Mrs. Andrew Hagberg, who is a sister of Mr. Brodine.

John Murphy of Lakefield formerly a student in high school here was a visitor to the schools Wednesday afternoon, while waiting for his train to Lakefield, his home, he will visit there for a couple of days before leaving for Idaho, at which place he will assist in erecting a large concrete bridge.

Reuben Oakes professor of the Rushmore schools, inspected the Worthington high school several days this week. George Wyckhoff of the state university, who is spending the holidays with his parents likewise visited the schools here last week. The visitation of public schools is right in line with his course which he is pursuing in the university. He states that Worthington 's school system will compare most favorably with those in larger cities throughout the state.

W.B. Stoutemyer will begin the cutting and shipping of ice Monday of next week.

Mr. and Mrs. M.L. Loafman, who were married in this city but a few weeks ago, left Monday for Sheldon, where they will be the guests of friends and relatives for a short time, after which they will leave for their home near Reading .

Oakley Tripp left Monday afternoon for Hamline, where he will take up his studies at the university after spending the holidays with his parents at Round Lake .

A.S. Engh of Sioux City, who has been visiting since New Year's with his daughter, Mrs. J.A. Suddaby, departed Monday for his home.

Mrs. A.J. Woodford and two children returned Monday from Carroll , Iowa , where they have been visiting relatives during the holidays.

Adolph Amondson and A. Hardow returned Saturday from Holland [MN], where they had been to pack some store goods belonging to M.J. Barber, preparatory to shipping the same to Worthington . Mr. Barber will re-engage in the store business here.

Chas. Abbott left Monday for North Dakota to continue his travels throughout that state in the interest of a Minneapolis firm. He has been spending the holidays with his family in this city.

John Siler of Ash Creek, left Monday for his home after spending the holidays with his uncles, Wilson and Chas. Abbott in this city.

Mrs. W.H. Gilchrist and two children left Monday for Alton , Iowa , where they will visit for some time with her parents, Mr. and Mrs. J. Gillen.

Miss Nina Canfield returned Monday to her home at St. Paul, after visiting during the holidays with her brother, E.L. Canfield and family of this city.

Mrs. C.E. Pfenning of Belle Plain arrived in the city Monday for a visit with her husband, who is employed as operator at this station. Mr. Pfenning is relieving Frank LePatche, who left for the city Monday morning, where he will visit for several weeks.

Misses Bell Scott of Rushmore and Agnes Taylor of Adrian passed through this city Monday on their way to Mankato , where they are attending normal. Miss Pearl Billington, who has been visiting her mother at Adrian during the holidays, accompanied them as far as Brewster, near which place she is teaching school.

Mrs. L.C. Hansen and three little boys who have been visiting at the home of her sister, Mrs. Jens Christensen, left January 1, for her home at Tilden, Nebr., where they have a farm. Mrs. Jens Christensen gave an oyster dinner in honor of her sister, to the International Sunshine Society of Lorain, Dec. 30th. A very pleasant time was had by the 43 who were present.

John Carncross has been quite ill at his home for the past week, but is at present somewhat improved.

J.E. McElligott left Tuesday for Aberdeen , S.D. , at which place he is to meet representatives of two companies,, who wish him to work for them.

Joseph Hildyard visited with his parents in this city from Friday until Monday, when he returned to Mankato to resume his studies in Mankato Commercial college.

J.F. Gerdes, who has been in the Worthington hospital for nearly eight weeks, suffering from blood poisoning, returned Monday to his home in Ewington, accompanied by his wife, who has been visiting him since Friday.

Mrs. George Pfarrer, accompanied her sister, Mrs. H.S. Mormons to her home at Iona , where she will visit with relatives for two weeks. Mrs. Mormons has been the guest of her sister in Worthington for nearly two weeks.

Dwight Ludlow, who has been spending the holidays with his parents in this city, returned Monday to Minneapolis , where he will continue his studies at the state agricultural college. He has completed the course offered in the school and is now taking the course at the college.

Dr. O.C. Selby, who has been spending his holiday vacation with friends and relatives in this city, departed Monday in company with his father for Redfield , S.D. , at which place Mr. Selby is practising as a veterinary doctor. His father expects to go west as far as the Black Hills , where he will spend some weeks visiting.

Edward Hauenstein, who has been spending the holidays with his parents, near Reading , returned Monday to Minneapolis , to continue his studies in the Minneapolis Business college. Mr. Hauenstein states that John Mosher, a graduate of the Worthington high school, is now interested in this college, having charge of the instruction department in mathematics.

Mr. and Mrs. Jos. Burgess of Tonica , Ill. , at which place they were recently married, spent their honeymoon with the family of Mr. and Mrs. B.S. Uden during the holidays. Mrs. Burgess was formerly Miss Lottie Scofield, a neighbor and close friend of Mrs. Uden, while the latter was residing in Illinois . They will visit at Corwith and Webster , Iowa , before returning to LaSalle county, Ill. , where they will make their home on a far, which was a present from the groom's father.
