Leap From Taxi in Funeral Train May Cause Woman's Death
Mrs. Florence Matson was still in an unconscious state at a late hour last night, as the result or an accident that occured yesterday afternoon while she was returning from the funeral of Frank Blogdett, Great Northern railroad conductor.
Mrs. Matson, in company with her sister Mrs. R. Phelps, 528 Ogden Avenue, was returning from the funeral in a taxlcab. Mrs. Matson became excited when she saw blue flames emerging from a heater in the rear of the car and opening the door she jumped out. She fell on her head and when picked up she was unconscious.
She was taken to St. Mary's hospital, where she was attended by Dr. T. J. O'Leary and Dr. T. J. Searles. Mrs. Phelps stated last night that the car was going at a moderate rate of speed when the accident occurred and that the car was immediately stopped when Mrs. Matson jumped from the car.
She said that her sister had been ill for some time and that she was easily excited.
Eye-witnesses to the accident riding in a car immediately behind the taxicab said when Mrs. Matson jumped she struck on her feet, whirled around and then crashed to the ground, striking face downward upon the pavement.
She was badly bruised about the face and head by the force of the fall.
