Home Chapel with the Rev. Harold White officiating. Burial was in Antioch

died Saturday, Nov. 4, 2006, at

Regional Medical Center.
Survivors include her daughters, Sandra Chapman and Naomi Shadow, both of
Meridian; sisters, Opal Graham of Meridian, Janelle Thomson, of Chunky;
grandchildren, Connie Bowling and her husband, David, and Joe Don Shadow and
five great-grandchildren.

John L. Slay
Services for John L. Slay were held Sept. 6 at 11:00 a.m. at the Freeman Funeral Home Chapel in Waynesboro with the Rev. Larry Dunn and the Rev. Roy Sumrall officiating. Burial was in the Elim Baptist Church Cemetery, Quitman.
Mr. Slay, 47, a resident of Avondale, La., died Sept. 4.
Survivors include his wife, Mrs. Frances Slay, Avondale; two daughters, Mary Angela Slay, Avondale, La., Mrs. Anita Joann Yancey, California; two sons, William Slay and John Slay, Avondale, La.; three brothers, James Franklin Slay, Loyce Slay and Luther Slay; six sisters, Eva Failes, Annie Manning, Becky Brown, Edna McInnis, Jewell Rowell, Alice Harrison; and three grandchildren.

Services for Leo F. Slay were held January 26, 1995, at Pine Grove Baptist Church with burial in the church cemetery. Rev. Buddy Braddock officiated.
Mr. Slay, 80, of Quitman, died January 23, 1995, at Mississippi Baptist Medical Center.
Survivors include a daughter, Mrs. Frankie Davis, Brookhaven, and two sisters, Mildred Clarke and Hazel Horne, both of Jackson; and three grandchildren.

Infant Kenneth, 10 months, died Wednesday, Jan. 31, 2007, in Stonewall.
Survivors include his parents, Tabitha and Robert Sloan; a sister, Raquel Sloan,
all of Enterprise; maternal grandparents, Cindy and Gerald Marks of Enterprise;
paternal grandparents, Henry and Dorothy Odom of Stonewall; maternal
great-grandmother, Kathryn Marks of Meridian; paternal great-grandmother, Rosie
Odom of Meridian; uncles, Dewayne Perry and his wife, Dorothy Dearman of
Enterprise and David Staszefski and his wife, Barbara of Energy.
Pallbearers will be David Sloan, Henry Odom, Robert Sloan and Dewayne Perry.
Visitation will begin at 5 p.m. today at the funeral home.

Ira Smith
Ira Smith, 75 years old Silas resident, died at Rush Memorial Hospital, Meridian, Miss., at 3 a. m. Monday morning, February 20.
Services were held Tuesday morning at 11 a. m. from Montrose Baptist Church, with the Revs. Ramsey and Herman Sollie officiating. Interment was in the church cemetery.
Survivors are his wife, Mrs. Lula Smith, Silas; five sons, Dewey, Vicksburg; Willie C., Lexington, N. C.; Otis J., Warrenville, S. V. (sic); Ira W., Prichard, and Sidney Smith, Silas; four sisters, Mesdames Mary Bales, Meridian; M. Roberts, Quitman; Emma Campbell, Laurel; Sudie Griffin, Quitman; two brothers, Elgie, Quitman and Willie Smith, Laurel; 22 grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren.

QUITMAN — Services for Joseph T. Smith Jr. will be held Saturday at 2 p.m. at
Wright’s Funeral Home Chapel with the Revs. Lucy Powell and Glen Roundtree
officiating. Burial will be in Cedar Creek Cemetery in Clarke County.
Mr. Smith, 79, of Quitman, died Wednesday, Jan. 17, 2007, at Lakeside Living
Center in Quitman.
Survivors include his sons, Bobby Joseph Smith of Brighton, Mich., Darrell
Edward Smith of Livonia, Mich. and Arlon Lee Smith of Garden City, Mich.;
daughters, Dorothy Louise Smith of Detroit and Diane Reese of Quitman; a
brother, William Thomas Smith of Piave; a sister, Bertie Mae Sanders of Quitman;
nine grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; five great-great-grandchildren;
three step-grandchildren and 12 step-great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Lucille Smith.
Visitation will be Saturday beginning at 1 p.m. at the funeral home.
September 20, 1956, Volume 1, Number 29, Stonewall, Mississippi
Dr. A. A. Sparkman well known in this area which he served for several years a resident physician in Stonewall, died Friday afternoon at a hospital in Memphis, it is said. For some time he had been seriously ill with an inoperable brain tumor.
The funeral was held Sunday afternoon at Cleveland, Miss. Dr. Sparkman is survived by his wife, Evelyn, his mother, Mrs. A. A. Sparkman, Sr., who recently reached her ninety-sixth birthday, and one brother, Fred, of Cleveland.
At the time of his death Dr. Sparkman was serving as resident doctor at the Veteran’s Domiciliary at Thomasville, Ga. He had served for many years as a doctor in the U. S. Army and held the rank of Major. He had also practiced in Jackson and in Gloster, Miss., before coming to Stonewall. During the three years he served here Dr. Sparkman made many friends. Both he and his wife were interested and active in community affairs and were very much missed when they left.

Services for Prentis Sumrall will be held Thursday at 11 a.m. at First Church of
God in Quitman, with the Rev. James Thompson officiating. Burial will be in
New Hope
Cemetery with Berry and Gardner Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.
Mr. Sumrall, 72, of Quitman, died Saturday, Dec. 30, 2006, at Heartfelt Hospice.
He was a retired cement finisher.
