Thomas S. Parker

To the honorable C. A. Stovall judge of the Probate Court of Clarke County in the said state of Mississippi.

            The petition of Thomas J. Parker a citizen of said County of Clarke County, Respectfully shares with your honor that Thomas S. Parker late of said County departed this life on or about the 21st day of October AD 1868 leaving no will or Testament so far as your petitioner knows or believes.  That said intestate died leaving a small real and personal Estate consisting of Horses, Cattle, Hogs, Farming Utensils, Household and Kitchen Furniture, __ and the Plantation on which he resided at the time of his death.  That said intestate left us his heirs at law, his widow _____ (Ania, Avia) Parker and the following named children _____ your petitioner, James J., John J., Mary E., Sarah J. and Julia A. Parker.

            All of whom are minors except your petitioner and James J. Parker.

Your petitioner further shows the said personal Estate is worth about one thousand dollars and that the said _____(Ania, Avia) Parker, the widow of aid deceased is desiring that your petitioner should administrate  there on. Your petitioner therefore prays your honor and grant him letters of Administration on the said Estate and he _____ as his securities on his bond and us in duty bounds.

WARRANT TO APPRAISERS

 

TO S W Chapman, J J Dunlap, and G M Massingale Greetings:

            This is to Authorize You, Jointly to appraise the goods, chattels and personal estate of Thomas S. Parker late of Clarke County, deceased, as far as the same shall come to your sight and knowledge, each of you having first taken the oath or affirmation hereto annexed; a certificate whereof you are to return, annexed to an inventory of said goods, chattels, and personal estate, by you appraise, in dollars and cents – and in the said inventory you are to set down, in a column or columns opposite to each article, the value thereof; having first sat apart to Mrs. Parker, the widow of said deceased, all of the personal estate of her said husband, to which she is entitled by law, and the year’s provision for herself and children, to which you may deem her entitled.  And, also, a sum of money sufficient to purchase necessary wearing apparel and pay tuition for said children for one year after death of said decedent as required by law; to be allotted upon oath, reduced to writing, and return to this Court with the appraisement aforesaid.

We Do Solemnly Swear, that we will well and truly, without partiality or prejudice, value and appraise the goods, chattels and personal estate of Thomas S.             The undersigned, Appraisers appointed by your Honorable Court, at the last November Term thereof, to appraise the goods, Chattels, and Personal Estate of Thos S. Parker, late of the said County of Clarke, deceased, begs leave respectfully to report.  That pursuant to and by virtue of the Warrant of said Court, to them direct, and their oaths thereon endorsed, which said Warrant and oaths are hereunto annexed, they did on the fifth day of December 1868 meet at the late residence of said deceased in this County, and that they did then and there value and appraise the Good, Chattels, and Personal Estate of said deceased, as far as the same were shown to or discovered by them, or otherwise came to their sight or knowledge; which will fully appear to your Honor by reference to the foregoing Schedule, marked “Schedule A”, containing each article, with the value thereof attached and extended, amounting in the aggregate to “None” Dollars ($-----.---).  That they have set apart to Mrs. Parker, widow and the children of the said deceased, all the Personal Estate of her husband to which she is entitled, amounting to one thousand and ninety-nine 50/100 Dollars ($1099.50), as appraised by them, which will fully appear by reference to “Schedule B” hereunto annexed.

            Also for the year’s provision for herself and children to which we deem her entitled, we have set aside the sum of one hundred and twenty-five dollars ($125.00).

            All of which is hereby certified under our hands and respectfully subscribed this fifth day of December AD 1865

            To the Honorable C. A. Stovall judge of the Probate Court of Clarke County in the Sate of Mississippi.

            The undersigned administrator of the Estate of Thomas S. Parker deceased, respectfully reports that by virtue of the order of this honorable Court made at the November term 1868 thereof, directing and authorizing him to sell at private sale or to consign for sale the growing crop of cotton of his intestate described in his application in this behalf, sold said crop of cotton amounting to six hundred and ninety-six (969) pounds of _____ cotton, & ?.T B Gordon & Co for 23 ¼ cents per pound, amounting to the sum of $157.86 and after deducting expenses of sale & the shipping proceeds amount to the sum of $145.80, which fully appears by difference & the account of sale here to attached _____ exhibit A and _____ a part of the report.  This administrator therefore charges himself with the sum of $145.80 the _____ proceeds of six hundred and ninety-six pounds of _____ cotton above mentioned.  And this administrator having fully reported said sale preys that the ______ _____ be approved and confirmed.
