Surprise Party On Double Birthday

(page 8)

Mrs. Lessie Powell and Mr A. D. Gilbert both of whose birthdays fall on the same day were given a surprise party by Mr. Douglas Powell and Mrs. Willie Maud Gilbert at the Lamp Post Restaurant, Meridian, last Saturday night.

The two couples usually have dinner in Meridian on Saturday nights and then go to one of the movies so it was no problem for the party hosts to get their guest to Meridian for the surprise.  But the honorees did suspect that something unusual was afoot when they were presented with floral tokens a corsage for Mrs. Powell and boutonniere for Mr. Gilbert.  When they got to the restaurant and met a group of friends ready and waiting to sing “Happy Birthday”, the honorees were taken for surprise, indeed.

The honorees received many useful and lovely gifts.  After the party they opened the gift packages.  Then the whole group went to see the movie show in which Elvis Presley starred, “Love Me Tender”.

Those present for the occasion were: Mr. and Mrs. Jack Hamrick, Mr. and Mrs. Douglas Powell, and Mr. and Billy, Mr. and Mrs. A. D. Gilbert, Mr. and Mrs. Edward Evans, Sarah and Helen and Mr. and Mrs. J. T. Ivey.
