Baker, Margaret Josephine Perry
Obit: Mrs. Josephine Baker, age 73, of Leakesville, MS, died Monday may 1, 2011 at Providence Hospital in Mobile, AL. She is survived by three sons, Tony Lee Pierce of Sand Hill, MS, Robert Lonnie Pierce of Houma, LA, Shannon (Kaye) Pierce of Wilmer, AL, daughter, Cathy Kloss of Biloxi, MS, sister, Victoria (C.R.) White of Theodore, AL, eight grandchildren and fifteen great grandchildren. mrs. Baker is preceded in death by husband, Jack Baker, father, Robert L. "Bob" Perry and mother, Fannie Belle Coaker Perry. The family will receive friends Tuesday, May 3, 2011 from 6:00 PM until 9:00 PM at Freeman Funeral Home, Leakesville. The Funeral service will be at 11:00 Am Wednesday, May, 4, 2011 at the funeral home with Rev. Les Dale officiating. Interment will be at Clark Cemetery, Leakesville.

Bates, Wiley Edward
LEAKESVILLE - Services will be held at noon Friday at Freeman Funeral Home for Wiley Edward Bates, 78, of Leakesville, who died June 29, 2004, at Keesler Medical Center in Biloxi.
Burial will be in Clarks Chapel Cemetery in Leakesville.
Mr. Bates was a retired accountant and member of Leakesville United Methodist Church.
Survivors include his wife, Laverne C. Bates of Leakesville; a son, William Albert Bates of Orange, Texas; two brothers, Allen Carl Bates of Crystal Springs and Billy Nick Bates of Clinton, Ala.; and two grandchildren.
Visitation will be from 10 a.m.- noon Friday at the funeral home.

Beard, Arthur

Obit: Funeral services were held Friday, September 26, at 11:00 a.m. from Freeman Funeral Home Chapel in Leakesville for Arthur Beard, 96, of Leakesville, who died Tuesday, September 23, 1997.
Interment was in Clark's Chapel Cemetery in State Line.
Mr. Beard was a native of Greene County and a resident of Brookwood Manor Nursing Center for several years. He was a retired farmer, carpenter and mill superintendent. He was a member of East Salem Baptist Church and the Leakesville Masonic Lodge, where he was the recipient of the 50 year pin.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Lettie Bell Clark Beard. Mr. Beard was the son of the late Thomas Wirt Beard and Agnes Turner Beard who were also natives of Greene County.
Survivors include one son, Arthur O'Gwynn (Almedia)Beard of Smyrna, GA.; one daughter, Mae Ola Beard (Neil)Holder of Clinton, MS.; one sister, Lucille Beard Copeland, Clinton, MS.; three grandchildren, five great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
Freeman Funeral Home of Leakesville was in charge of arrangements.

Denny, Walter
Obit: Moss Point, Miss., March 30 - Hon. Walter Denny, president of the firm of W. Denny & co., lumber manufacturers, died at 11:15 p.m. yesterday, aged 76 years. Mr. Denny was for ten years sheriff of Greene county before the war, and served Jackson county in the legislature from 1859 to 1862, and he established the lumber business here in 1853, and sicne then has been one of the leaders in the lumber trade of the South. He was buried at 3 p.m. today by Pascagoula Lodge A.F. and A.M., of which he had been an honored member for years. All business was practically suspended here today in consequence of the loss of this honored citizen.
