Bertha D. Gavin, 89, of Laurel, died Sunday, March 13, 2011, at South Central Regional Medical Center in Laurel.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, March 19, at St. Paul United Methodist Church in Laurel with burial in the Nora Davis Cemetery. Dr. Tanya Evans will officiate.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Booker and Minnie Barnes; husband, Marvin Gavin, Sr.; one son, Marvin Gavin, Jr.; four brothers, Billbow Dean, Otis Dean, James Dean and Willie Barnett; and three sisters, Bessie Dean, Catherine McDonald and Alice Smith.
Survivors include a son, Dwight (LanJaune) Gavin of Laurel; three daughters, Barbara Faye Gavin, Cassandra Jean Collier Gavin and Shelia Adele Marshall, all of Laurel; three grandchildren, three great-grandchildren and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
Visitation will be held from noon until 2 p.m. Saturday at St. Paul United Methodist Church.
Brown Mortuary, Inc., is in charge of arrangements.

ILLNESS FATAL TO JACK GOUGH
Illness fatal to Charles M. (Jack) Gough, 57 member trustee and choir director of Freedom Baptist Church at Myrick died Saturday morning in the Baptist Hospital, Jackson, MS following a short illness.
Gough, a native of Jones County, was born April 1, 1912.
Funeral arrangements are incomplete with Thompson Funeral Home In charge.
Survivors are his widow, Mrs. Hazel Thomas Gough, Route 1, Laurel. Two daughters, Mrs. Sandra Hass, Torrence CA; Miss Jan Gough, Rt 1 Laurel; two sisters, Mrs Ardell Jordan, Route 1, Laurel and Mrs. J.J. Price of Laurel.
Nephews will serve as pall bearers.
