OXFORD - Ora Mae Ragland Booker, 96, died Saturday, Dec. 16, 2006, at the Yalobusha General
Hospital in Water Valley. She was a native of Lafayette County and the widow of William Booker. She was a member
of Bayson Chapel M.B. Church, where she was on the Mothers Board. She enjoyed cooking, sewing, quilting, knitting,
crocheting, traveling and canning food.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Thursday at Bayson Chapel M.B. Church in Water Valley with the Rev. Amos Sims officiating.
Burial will be in Bayson Chapel Cemetery. Kenneth I. Roberson Funeral Home of Pontotoc is in charge of the arrangements.
Survivors include one daughter, Reba Willingham (James) of Oxford; eight sons, Willie Booker (Barbara) of Riverside,
Calif., Walter Booker (Shirley) of Millington, Tenn., Thomas Booker (Edna) of Kent, Wash., Hilria Booker (Carleitha)
of Chicago, James Booker (Rosie), David Booker (Bessie) and Donald Booker, all of Seattle, Wash., and George Booker
(Naomi) of Jacksonville, Ala.; one sister, Orrie Pollard of Chicago; three brothers, James Herman Ragland of Lake
Providence, La., Hiriam Ragland (Ola) of Chicago and Eugene Ragland (Shirley) of Harvey, Ill.; two sisters-in-law,
Zenia Ragland of Oxford and Mamie Ragland of Memphis; 34 grandchildren, 41 great-grandchildren, four great-great-grandchildren.
Visitation will be from noon to 5 p.m. today at the funeral home and from 9 to 11 a.m. Thursday at the church.

WATER VALLEY - James E. Lawrence, 63, died Friday, July 22, 2005. He was born Nov. 25, 1941,
in Yalobusha County. He was a mechanic and bus driver for the Water Valley School System for 35 years before retiring.
He was a trustee at Bayson Chapel.
Services will be at 1 p.m. Wednesday at Bayson Chapel in Water Valley with the Rev. Amos Sims officiating. Burial
will be in Bayson Chapel Cemetery. Seven Oaks Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.
Survivors include his wife, Ruth Pam Lawrence of Water Valley; two sons, James B. Lawrence and wife, Linda, of
Coffeeville, and Rodney D. Lawrence of Water Valley; a granddaughter, LaKoya Lawrence; his mother, Myrtle Alexander
Lawrence; a sister, Lue Bertha Lawrence of Alton, Ill.; two brothers, Ardell Lawrence of Alton, Ill., and George
Lawrence of Water Valley. He was preceded in death by his father, Clarence Lawrence. Visitation will be from noon
to 1 p.m. Wednesday at the church.

McCRORY, ARKANSAS: Jessie Earl Polk, 50, born May 15, 1956 to the late James K. and Gencie
M. Winters Polk of Oakland, died Tuesday, May 23, 2006 in McCrory, Arkansas. He accepted Christ at an early age
and united with Bayson Chapel Missionary Baptist Church of Water Valley. He attended St. John Church of Lexa in
West Helena after moving to Arkansas.
Mr. Polk received his secular education from the Yalobusha County School System and graduated from Coffeeville
High School in 1974. Upon completion of his education he moved to Milwaukee, Wisconsin and acquired employment
with the State Corrections Department as a Security Officer. After the death of his father he returned to Mississippi
to handle that estate, and then later moved to Arkansas where he remained until his untimely death.
He leaves: three children, Natalya Herrod of Milwaukee, Wisconsin, Jeslynn Polk of Oakland, and Preston Campbell
of West Memphis, Arkansas; eight sisters, and four brothers, Chester L. Polk and Walter L. Polk of Waterloo, Iowa,
James K. (Janet) Polk of Detroit, Michigan, Vera C. (Tom) Morgan, Ruby I. (Wardell) McWilliams, Birda R. Polk ,
and Edith P. McDonald of Milwaukee, Wisconsin, Essie V. Bell of St. Louis, Missouri, Willie C. Polk of Chicago,
Illinois, Eleanor R. (William) Harris of Memphis, Alma O. Nicholson of Coffeeville, and Mildred F. Polk of Nashville;
three aunts, Sally Polk of Coffeeville, Levora Frierson of Oxford, and Chaney Witners of Oakland; and a host of
nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.
Funeral services for Mr. Polk were held at one o’clock in the afternoon Thursday, June 1, 2006, in Bayson Chapel
Church. Eddie Robinson & Son Fuenral Home in Water Valley had charge of arrangements.

MEMPHIS: Obia (Butch) Tyler, 64, died May 30, 2006, in Memphis.
A son of the late Benjamin (Mat) Tyler and Ruby Lee Buck, Mr. Tyler was born February 24, 1942, in Water Valley.
He was retired. Mr. Tyler was a member of Spring Hill North M.B. Church in Water Valley.
Funeral services were held Saturday, June 3, 2006, at eleven o’clock in the morning, in Bayson Chapel M.B. Church,
with Rev. Amos Sims officiating. Burial was in the church cemetery. Eddie Robinson and Son Funeral Directors of
Water Valley had charge of arrangements.
Survivors include: three sisters, Martha L. White and Leves Nell Shuffield, both of Water Valley, and Janie Ree
Tyler of Plano, Texas; and two brothers, Jimmy Dale Tyler of Nashville, Tennessee and Thomas Lee Tyler of Tunica.
