Obituary of Lewis Simpson Homer |
Lewis S. Homer, 92, of Queen City, Missouri, passed away Friday morning (April 14, 2006) in Northeast Regional Medical Center in
Kirksville, Missouri where he had been a patient since April 5th.The son of Raleigh Bower and Mary Marah (Maria)(Simpson) Homer, he was born September 6, 1913 at Ellisville, Illinois. On September 21,
1935 at Ellisville, Illinois he was united in marriage to Bernita Onalee Schisler and to this union five children were born. Bernita preceded him in death on March 7, 1997.Surviving are his five children, Mary Jean Homer of Kirksville, Missouri. Margaret Rose Whitehurst and husband Ira of Virginia Beach, Virginia, Sharon Diane (Colton) Tuttle and husband Louie of Kirksville, Missouri. Ronald D. Homer, Sr. and wife Joeann
of Greentop, Missouri and Craig Lee Homer and wife Wanda of Queen City, Missouri. One sister, Roberta Abel of Osage Beach, Missouri; one brother Phillip Homer and wife Karen of Glenwood, Missouri and a sister-in-law, Mildred Homer of Avon, Illinois.
Eleven grandchildren, twenty-one great grandchildren and a number of nieces and nephews. One step daughter, Jeanette King and husband Ron of Greentop. Missouri along with several step-grand and great-grandchildren also survive.On July 4, 2000 at Greentop, Missouri he was united in marriage to Alberta Robinson who preceded him in death on May 6, 2005. Also
preceding him in death were his parents, one sister, three brothers, one grandson and two sister-in-laws.Lewis attended school in Ellisville and was a row crop and livestock farmer in and around the Fulton County area in Illinois.
In 1950 they moved to Schuyler County where he continued farming until retiring in early 1999. After moving to Schuyler County he attended the Coffee Christian Church south of Downing. He had been a member of the Queen City Christian Church for over thirty years where he had served as a Deacon. He served on the Soil Conservation Board, the Farm Bureau Board, was a member of the Bible Grove B Bar B Saddle Club and was a 4-H Leader for many years. Lewis enjoyed his family, friends, farming and always had funny stories to tell.Funeral services were held at 11:00 a.m. Monday (April 17. 2006) in the Queen City Christian Church with Pastor George Bradburn officiating. Music was provided by Georgia Ann Robinson singing “The Old Rugged Cross" and "When the Roll Is Called up Yonder” with Gwen Laudwig organist. Burial was in the Queen City Cemetery.
Pallbearers were Don Wheeler, Harold (Butch) Robinson, Tim King, Randy King, Gerald Robinson and David Robinson.
Visitation was from 6:00 to 8:00 Sunday evening (April 16. 2006) with the family receiving friends at that time in the Dooley Funeral Home, Queen City, Missouri 660-766-2241The family requests that those who wish to express their sympathy in the form of a contribution may do so to the Queen City Christian Church. Obituary of Bernita Onalee Schisler Homer
Bernita O. Homer - Bernita Onalee Homer, 78 of Queen City, MO died unexpectedly on Friday evening (March
7, 1997) at the Northeast Regional
Medical Center in Kirksville, MO.
The daughter of "Bidie" and Neva (Kreps) Schisler, she was born July 4, 1918 in Fulton County, IL. On
September 21, 1935 in Ellisville, IL
she was united in marriage to Lewis Homer who survives.
Also surviving are two sons, Ronald Homer and wife Joeann of Greentop, MO and Craig Homer and wife Wanda of Queen
City, MO; three daughters,
Mary Jean Rice and husband LaVerne "Dick" of Hurdland, MO, Margaret Rose Whitehurst and husband Ira of
Virginia Beach, VA and Sharon Diane Colton Tuttle
and husband Louie of Kirksville, MO; sixteen grandchildren; fifteen great-grandchildren; one brother-in-law, Phillip
Homer and wife Karen of Glenwood, IL (should be MO);
four sisters-in-law, Robert Abel of Osage Beach, MO, Margret Homer of Rocky Mountain, MO, Mildred Homer of Avon,
IL and Maxine Homer of Abingdon,
IL; cousins living in Illinois and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents and one grandson, Patrick Lundstrom.
Bernita was raised in the Fulton Co, IL area and attended the Ellisville and Avon public schools. In 1959
she and her husband moved to the Queen City, MO area.
They lived on a farm north of Queen City, she was a homemaker. She was a member of the Queen City Christian Church
and the C.W.C.
She was a member of the Rebekahs in Ellisville, IL and Downing, MO for over 50 years, a member of the Homemakers
Association, Rolling Hills Club, Share Food Board
and has served as a 4-H leader for many years. Bernita's hobbies were quilting, painting and sewing. She was a
loving wife, mother and grandmother.
Funeral service will be held at 2:00 P.M. Tuesday (March 11, 1997) at the Queen City Christian Church with
Pastor George Bradburn and Paster Bennie Wheeler officiating.
Music will be provided by Carol Western and Carolyn Applegate singing "Loved Lifted Me" and "How
Great Thou Art."
Organist will be Gwen Laudwig and pianist will be Wanda Campbell.
Internment will be in the Queen City Cemetery in Queen City, MO.
Pallbearers will be Mike Heath, Steve Colton, R. D. Homer, Tracy Homer, Lester Winn, Mark Henderson, Ty Walker
and Wayne Purchase.
Honorary Pallbearers will be Gerald Robinson, Wayne Laudwig, Butch Robinson, Schneider Hiel, Turner Markley and
Don Wheeler.
Visitation is in progress and the family will receive friends from 7:00 to 9:00 Monday evening (Mach 10,
1997),
with a Rebekah Service at 7:30 Monday evening at the Dooley Funeral Home, Queen City, MO 766-2241.

Obituary of James E. Heath
Jim Heath
James E. Heath, 77, of Kirksville, MO, died Tuesday (December 12, 2000) at Northeast Regional Medical Center in
Kirksville.
The son of Lester and Ruby (Bridges) Heath, he was born November 6, 1923 in Elwood, MO.
On January 21, 1956 he Married Mary Jean Homer and two children were born to the union.
He is survived by one son, Mike Heath and his wife Barb of Keizer, OR; one daughter, LaNita Heath of Kirksville,
MO; one brother, Bill Heath and wife Roseanne of Topeka, KS;
one sister, Jimmi Kay Rone and husband Steve of Fairplay, MO; and six grandchildren, Stephene, Sara Shaun, D. J.,
Jonathan and Ryan.
He was preceded in death by his parents, step-mother, and two sisters. Jim was raised in Stockton, MO and attended
public school.
After his education he moved to IL, where he worked for several years as a truck driver. Moving back to MO in the
early 60's, he opened a plumbing shop in Queen City.
In the late 60's he moved south of Kirksville and owned and operated the Triple-J Tavern. In 98 he moved to Novinger
and worked for the Special Road District as a truck driver.
He later worked for the "Green Thumb" construction program until his retirement.He was a member of the
Eagles Lodge of Moberly, MO.
Funeral services will be at 2:00 P.M. Friday (December 15, 2000) at Fohn Funeral Home. Reverend Virgil Jones
will officiate,
with musical selections "Amazing Grace," Wide Open Spaces" and "Daddy's Hands."
Burial will be in Greencastle Cemetery.
Pallbearers will be Bill Charles, Dough Spencer, Dennis Jones, Jim Bullock,
Visitation will be after noon Thursday,
with the family receiving friends from 6:00 P.M. until 8:00 P.M. at Fohn Funeral Home.
