KAGE SCHOOL

The Kage School on Kage Road in northwest Cape Girardeau had as their teacher in 1959, Mrs. Bernice Hirsch.

This is how the Kage School looked in September 2009 with boarded up windows and crumbling chimney.  The sign painted on the building says, "Kage School, Est. 1854."  The remains of an old swing are at the south end of the building with a door on that side and another door on the east side.  Kage School closed May 20, 1966.  The building was erected in 1880, replacing a log building, and built for a low bid of $1,200.

(For additional pictures and information on the Kage School see Ken Steinhoff's blog at:  http://www.capecentralhigh.com/cape-photos/kage-school-a-picture-with-a-question-mark/
