Obit: Myrtle Finney Redfield Dies at Kansas City, Mo.
Mrs. Myrtle Estelle Redfield, former Humeston, [Iowa] girl, died January 8, [1952] at her home in Kansas City, Mo., where she had resided for over 30 years. She was a member of the Congregational Church. Her husband, Elmer Redfield, died in 1944. She is survived by a sister, Mrs. Alice Hobbs of Kansas City, the only surviving member of the immediate family. [Myrtle was married to Elmer F. Redfield Oct. 30, 1907 in Shenandoah, Page County, Iowa.]
A. D. (Dolph) McGuire, of Overland Park, Kansas, who attended Clay Center school 3 miles south of Humeston, with the Finney children, attended the funeral services held at Newcomers' in Kansas City January 9th. [Burial was Jan. 9, 1952 in Mount Moriah Cemetery, Kansas City, Mo.]
Mrs. Redfield was a daughter of Mr. and Mrs. James [and Kiziah Nelson] Finney, former residents of Clay Township and Humeston. Finney was in the furniture business in Humeston and later moved to Shenandoah and was employed by the Burlington railroad. "Jim" was well known and popular with the railroad men who were employed for many years on the old H. & S., between Humeston and Shenandoah. Mr. and Mrs. Finney died several years ago.
The James Finney, Heck Sanford and Frank McGuire pioneer families of the community, were all members of the same church and good friends. Mrs. Gertrude Surbaugh of Humeston, Iowa recalls that the Finney family lived on a farm north of her father's place in Clay Township, and were good neighbors.
