ARTHUR LEROY MATHENA

Arthur Leroy Mathena, of Eldridge, was born on December 24, 1917 in Everest, Kansas, the son of Louis and Mary Greer Mathena, and departed this life on April 3, 1999, in Breech Medical Center, in Lebanon, at the age of 81.

Arthur gave his life to Christ several years ago and was a member of the Prosperine Baptist church. During World War II, he served his country in the United States Army, receiving an honorable discharge October 22, 1945.

On February 23, 1946 Mr. Mathena was united in marriage to Georgia Gregory and of this marriage there are three children.

Arthur is survived by his wife Georgia of the home; one son, Steve Mathena and his wife Kathy of Lebanon; one daughter, Katherine Hill and her husband Bob, also of Lebanon; and one daughter-in-law, Pam Mathena, of Platte City, Missouri; two sisters, Ruth of Ohio and Clara of Arkansas; twelve grandchildren, seventeen great grandchildren; six great great grandchildren; and a host of other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents; one son, James Mathena; four brothers and one sister.

Mr. Mathena was a great neighbor and friend who was always willing to help out in any way he could.  He set a great example for his family to follow as “The Lord and his family” were the most important things in life to him.

He will be sadly missed by all who knew him, but they can rejoice in that he made preparations years ago to meet the Lord.

GEORGIE (GREGORY) MATHENA

Georgie Mathena, 85, of Eldridge, died Friday, Dec. 19, 2003, at her residence.

She was born May 15, 1918, in Eldgridge to George Thomas and Nellie Rose Riggins Gregory, who preceded her in death.

On Feb. 23, 1946, she married Arthur Leroy Mathena, who preceded her in death.

She also was preceded in death by four brothers; Leonard, Lloyd, Euin and Curtis; and four sisters; Gurtie, Joyce, Gladys and Cleo.

She was a homemaker.

Survivors include one son, Steve and his wife, Kathy, of Eldridge; one daughter, Katherine Hill and her husband, Bob, of Lebanon; nine grandchildren, 18 great-grandchildren, 10 great-great grandchildren, other relatives and friends.

Service for Georgie Mathena will be held at 1 p.m., Monday, Dec. 22, 2003, at Colonial Chapel with the Rev. Shawnee Ripley officiating the service.

Burial will be in the Hufft Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 4 to 6 p.m. today at Colonial Chapel under the direction of  Theime-Shadel-Hicks Funeral Service.

A memorial has been established to Hufft Cememtery.

STEVE R. MATHENA

Steve R. Mathena, 50, of Eldridge, died Wednesday, June 16, 2004, in Lebanon.

He was born March 22, 1954, in Lebanon to Arthur and Georgie (Gregory) Mathena.

On Oct. 2, 1981, he married Kathy Richardson.

He was preceded in death by his parents, a brother, James Mathena, and a granddaughter, Leslie Ann Mathena.

He was plant manager for parts manufacturing (Metal Tech).

Survivors include his wife, Kathy Mathena, of the home; four sons, Steve Mathena and his wife, Deborah and Shawn Mathena and his wife, Lauren, all of Guthrie, Okla., and Dustin and Louis Mathena, both of the home; a sister, Kathryn Hill and her husband, Bob, of Lebanon; four granddaughters, Amanda, Carissa, Skylar and Kaylee; his mother-in-law, Marie Richardson of Lebanon and other relatives.

Services for Steve R. Mathena will be held at 2 p.m., Sunday, June 20, 2004, at Colonial Chapel with Danny Hill officiating.

Burial will be in Hufft cemetery near Eldridge under the direction of Thieme-Shadel-Hicks Funeral Service at Colonial Chapel of Lebanon.

Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Saturday in the chapel.

A memorial has been established to Hufft Cemetery.

HERBERT ELI MCCRACKEN

Herbert Eli McCracken, son of Harvey Leroy and Mary Belle Fields McCracken, was born August 5, 1931, near Linn Creek, in Camden County, Missouri. He departed this life Monday, February 7, 2005, in the Applewood Lane Group Home, near Lebanon, Missouri, at the age of seventy-three years, six months, and two days.

His parents, four brothers, and four sisters preceded him in death.

Eli is survived by several nieces and nephews; as well as a host of other relatives and friends.

He was raised in the Falcon, Missouri area and attended Mount Salem School. He spent most of his life on the family farm and helped with the chores. After his mother passed away he made his home with an aunt, Barbara Holldorf, in the Grovespring area for a number of years. He then lived with his nephew, Raymond Burch, in Belle, Missouri for a short time before moving to the Applewood Lane Group Home near Lebanon.

Eli attended services at Tabernacle Baptist Church in Lebanon. He did volunteer work with Meals-On-Wheels and the Lebanon Humane Society. He also took part in the Special Olympics for several years.

He liked being outdoors where he enjoyed fishing and visiting with people.

Eli will be fondly remembered and greatly missed by all of his family and many friends.

Services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Thursday, February 10, 2005, at Mount Salem Cemetery, East of Lebanon. Visitation will be Wednesday evening from 5 - 6:30 p.m. under the direction of Holman-Howe Funeral Home of Lebanon, Missouri.

GERALD LIVINGSTON MORROW
Gerald Livingston Morrow, son of Aubrey Livingston and Nellie Marie Stayton Morrow, was born April 3, 1920, near Enon, Missouri. He departed this life Thursday, January 9, 2003, in Breech Regional Medical Center, in Lebanon, Missouri, at the age of eighty-two years, nine months, and six days.

On December 6, 1949, he was united in marriage to Wilda "Gean" Sanders, and to this union two daughters and two sons were born.
His parents, and a son, Gregory Allen Morrow, preceded him in death.

Gerald is survived by his loving wife of fifty-three years, Gean, of the home; a son and daughter-in-law, Dean and Linda Morrow, of Lebanon, Missouri; two daughters and sons-in-law, Cherrie and James Seitenzahl, of Ozark, Missouri, and Gala and Scott Solari, of Hollister, Missouri; four grandchildren, Jeannine, Bethany, Joel, and Erin; two great-grandchildren, Tyler, and Mariah; two brothers, Junior Morrow, of Lebanon, Missouri, and Harold Morrow, of Stowe, Vermont; three sisters, Opal Wicks, and Dorothy Thompson, both of Lebanon, Missouri, and Maxine Young, of Pinole, California; several nieces and nephews; as well as a host of other relatives and friends.

He was born and raised in the Enon, Missouri community, and then moved to Lebanon, Missouri in the late 1930's. He served his country faithfully in the United States Army during World War II, and received his honorable discharge after being injured while in basic training. He then made his home in California for a short time, before returning to Lebanon where he and Gean lovingly raised their family. He owned and operated a moving and storage company for many years, and also was a gentleman farmer, raising cattle and horses.

In his spare time he enjoyed camping and traveling across the country in his motor home. He liked caring for his animals and especially his
dog and horse. His family was very important to him and his grandchildren and great-grandchildren were the highlight of his life. He was a great storyteller and enjoyed sharing his stories with his family and friends.

Gerald was a loving husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother, and uncle, and was a caring neighbor and friend. He will be fondly remembered and greatly missed by all those who knew and loved him.

Services will be held January 14, 2003 at 2:00p.m. in the Holman-Howe Chapel. Burial will follow in the Mount Rose Memorial Park Cemetery. Visitation will be held Monday Evening from 7-8:30p.m. under the direction of the Holman-Howe Funeral Home, Lebanon, Missouri.
