Dr. Frank R. Newberry

 

 

Assistant Surgeon

 

 

 

 

Was born January 25, 1853, at Fredericktown, Madison County, Missouri; was educated at the public schools of Fredericktown, Missouri and Arcadia College; was graduated from the University Medical College of New York City, class of 1875, and from the Missouri Medical College, St. Louis, class of 1891.

 

He was nominated by the Democrats of Madison County and elected Represenative in 1886 and renominated and elected in 1888.

 

In 1890 was nominated by the Democrats of the Twenty-fourth Senatorial District and elected a member of the State Senate, serving through the sessions of 1891, '92 and '93.

 

Is married, having a wife and six children.

 

When the Fifth Missouri was organized Dr. Newberry was appointed Assistant Surgeon with rank of First Lieutnant, and was with the regiment during its stay at Chickamauga and Lexington.

 

In October he resigned his commission in order that Dr. McCallum, who had faithfully performed the duties of Hospital Steward, should be promoted to the position of First Lieutenant and Assistant Surgeon.
