PEORIA, IL–DAVID W. SANDER, 50, of Cottage Hills, formerly of Peoria, died at 9:05 p.m. Thursday, July 30, 1992, at St. Louis University Hospital.
Born May 28, 1942, in Illmo, Mo., to John and Maria Smith Sander, he married Barbara Belsley on Sept. 19, 1970, in Metamora.
Surviving are two sons, Thomas of Peoria and Jon of Cottage Hills; two sisters, Louise Strain of Truxton, Mo., and Betty James of Cape Girardeau, Mo.; five brothers, John of Tremont, Vernon of Peoria Heights, Jim of Springfield, Mo., Thomas of Gaithersburg, Md., and Jerry of Wyoming, Ill. One son, David Jr., five brothers and one sister preceded him in death.
He was a manager in the halon service division at Computer Environment Systems in St. Louis.

    Friends may call after 4 p.m. today at the Amick-Burnett Funeral Home here, and from 9 to 10:45 a.m. Tuesday at the church.
    Sanders, 76 years old, of Scott City, died Sunday, Jan 13, 1991, at St. Francis Medical Center.
    She was born Mar. 2, 1914, at Illmo, daughter of David Held and Amelia Sander Held.
    She worked as a floor lady at Eli Walker before retiring.
    She was a member of Eisleben Lutheran Church, and member of the Ladies Aid of the church.
    She married John Mack Sanders on Dec. 24, 1934, at Illmo. He survives.
    Other survivors include a son, Richard Sanders of St. Louis; daughter, Evelyn Maurath, of St. Louis; brother, Clarence Held, of New Hamburg; three sisters, Edna Hagan, Marie Burger and Vera Mae Lohmann, all of Scott City; 9 grandchildren, and 21 great grandchildren.
    She was preceded in death by a sister and two brothers.

Fort Wayne, IN--HETTIE E. SAUNDERS, 86, of Parksville Mo., died Tuesday. The Oran, Mo., native was the widow of Clarence R., who died in 1976, and formerly lived in Fort Wayne and Detroit. Surviving are two sons, a stepsister, four grandchildren and three great- grandchildren. Services are 2 p.m. tomorrow in D.O. McComb & Sons Lakeside Park Funeral Home, 1140 Lake Ave., where calling is 1 to 2 p.m. Saturday. Burial will be in Greenlawn Memorial Park.

ORAN, MO - GERALDINE TERESA SCHAEFER, 73, died at 10:25 p.m. Nov. 15, 2001, at Fountainbleau Lodge in Cape Girardeau.
Born Aug. 4, 1928, in Commerce, daughter of the late James B. and Minerva J. Stallings Reed, she retired as a machine operator for Goodyear Tire and Rubber Company in St. Louis and was a member of Guardian Angel Catholic Church in Oran.
On Dec. 7, 1985, she married Elmer Joseph Schaefer who preceded her in death on May 1, 1997.
She is survived by two sisters, Louise Hunt of Pocatello, Idaho, and Lorena Green of Cahokia, Ill.
One son, five brothers and five sisters also preceded her in death.
Friends may call from 8:30 a.m. Monday until service time at 10 a.m. at Amick-Burnett Funeral Chapel in Oran. The Rev. John Harth will officiate.
Burial will follow in Guardian Angel Catholic Cemetery.

Chaffee, MO--EDWARD "Eddie" SCHETTER, 81, of Chaffee died Thursday, Jan. 3, 2008 at Southeast Missouri Hospital, Cape Girardeau.  He was born June 10, 1926 at New Hamburg, MO, son of Otto Charles and Mamie Katie Westrich Schetter.  He and Wilhelmina Kluesner were married July 1, 1950.
Schetter was a self-employed skilled carpenter.  He served in the U. S. Army during World War II in Osaka, Japan, where he received the Victory medal and the Army of Occupation medal.  Schetter was a member of St. Ambrose Catholic Schurch, where he was also a member of the St. Ambrose Men's Club.  He was a lifetime member of Chaffee VFW Post 3127.
Survivors include his wife; a son, Mitchell Schetter of Sikeston, Mo; three daughters, Pat Alsdorf of Freidheim, MO, Gail Buzzotta of Chesterfield, Mo, and Jill Glastetter of Chaffee; three brothers, Ervin "Webb" Schetter of Cape Girardeau and Alvin Schetter of Danville, IL; four sisters, Arabella Stike and Lois Eastwood, both of Chaffee, Orilla Pobst of Oran, MO, and Ada Lee Hasenkamp of Benton, MO; 10 grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.  
He was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers and three sisters.
The funeral was Monday, Jan. 7, 2008 at St. Ambrose Catholic Church, with the Rev. Ralph Duffner officiating.  Burial was in St. Ambrose Cemetery, with full military rites by the Chaffee VFW.


Chaffee, MO--THEON JOHN SCHMITT, 60, of Chaffee, died Thursday, Jan 29, 2009 at his home.  He was born Sept. 16, 1948, at Oran, Mo., son of Linus Cletus and Maudie Louise Biby Schmitt.  He and Karen Sue Gloth were married Feb. 14, 1977.
Schmitt was a janitor at St. Ambrose Catholic Church.  He was a member of the church, its Men's Club, and Chaffee Elks Lodge 1810.  
He was a sergeant in the U. S. Army and served in Vietnam.
Survivors include his wife, Karen Schmitt of Chaffee; a son, Michael Schmitt of Chaffee; two daughters, Stephanie Hobbs of Batesville, Ark., Candy Collom of Jonesboro, Ark; his mother of Chaffee; two brothers, Cletus and Donald Schmitt of Chaffee; and two grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his father.
The funeral was Monday, Feb. 2, at St. Ambrose Church, with the Rev. Ralph Duffner officiating.  Burial was in St. Ambrose Cemetery.  --Source:  Scott County Signal, Feb. 8, 2009.


St. Charles, MO--BARBARA LEE SCHRADER, 51, of St. Charles, died Tuesday (Dec. 29, 1992) at Jewish Hospital in St. Louis after a lengthy illness.
Mrs. Schrader was a native of Commerce, Mo., and grew up at Risco, Mo. She worked as a machine operator for about 12 years at Proctor & Gamble Co. in St. Louis.
A funeral service will be at 11:30 a.m. Thursday at Baue Funeral Home, 620 Jefferson Street, St. Charles. Burial will be at Memorial Park Cemetery in Malden, Mo.
Visitation will be from 3 p.m. to 9 p.m. today at the funeral home.
Among the survivors are a son, Steven Jackson of Vandenberg Air Force Base, Calif.; a daughter, Pamela Rehagen of Hazelwood; her mother, Henrietta Vincent of Farmington, Mo.; three sisters, Rosa Kinder of Doe Run, Mo., Clara Vincent of Farmington, and Effie Clark of St. Louis, and three grandchildren. --St. Louis Post-Dispatch (MO) - December 30, 1992.


CHAFFEE, MO - NICHOLAS HENRY SCHWACH, JR., 77, died at 2:05 p.m. Oct. 27, 2001, at St. Francis Medical Center in Cape Girardeau.
Born May 22, 1924, in Gordonville, son of the late Nicholas Henry and Nellie White Schwach, he was a construction heavy equipment operator for McCarthy Brothers in St. Louis and served with the U.S. Army in World War II. He was a member of St. Ambrose Catholic Church, VFW Post 3127, American Legion Post 389 and Elks Lodge 1810, all of Chaffee, Oran Knights of Columbus Council 4311 and Hoisting Engineer's Local 13.
On May 24, 1946, at Dutchtown, he married Marlin Joyce Schoenher who survives of the home.
Other survivors include: four daughters, Margaret Ann Schwach of Chaffee, Diane Sue Heisserer of Woodson Terrace, Sandra Kay LaGrand of St. Peters and Deborah May Speedy of Foley; one brother, John Von of Perryville; two sisters, Mary Stelle Penner and Dorothy Ann Stock of Perryville; and four grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
One brother preceded him in death.
Friends may call after 4 p.m. today at Amick-Burnett Funeral Chapel in Chaffee, where rites by Chaffee Elks Lodge 1810 at 6:30 p.m. will be followed by a rosary at 7 p.m.
A funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Tuesday at St. Ambrose Catholic Church with the Rev. Ralph Duffner officiating.
Burial will follow in the St. Ambrose Catholic Cemetery at Chaffee.

CHAFFEE, MO - WALTER STANLEY "SCOTTIE" SCOTT, 68, of Chaffee, died Nov. 5, 2001, at the Chaffee Nursing Center. He was born Feb. 21, 1933, in Kay Switch, Ark., son of the late Jesse Nelson and Lorene Boyd Scott.
Walter "Scottie" is a retired riverboat captain with the Missouri Barge Line. A graduate of Charleston High School, where he achieved recognition in football and track, he attended the University of Missouri and also served in the U.S. Navy. He was a member of Chaffee Masonic Lodge 618.
He and Maxine Burks were married on Nov. 8, 1982, and she survives.
Other survivors include: one son, Jeffrey "Jay" Scott of Julian, N.C.; two daughters, Gaye Lovegrove of Greenville, S.C., and Nikki Bradley of Scott City; one stepdaughter, Debbie Graham of Jackson; three stepsons, Tim Burks and Tracy Estes of Scott City and Bobby Burks of Chaffee; one brother, Donald Scott of Flint, Mich.; one sister, Helen Blankenship of Mesquite, Texas; 14 grandchildren, Josh and Hannah Scott, Casey and Christopher Lovegrove, Matthew and B.J. Bradley; Samantha, Amy, Stevie and Sidney Burks; Mattie Graham, Jason Ourth and Travis and Trenton Estes.
Friends may call after 5 p.m. Wednesday at Amick-Burnett Funeral Chapel in Chaffee, where a Masonic service is scheduled for 7 p.m.

KELSO, MO - CORNETTA R. SEYER, 91, died at 2:25 p.m. Jan. 1, 2002, at St. Francis Medical Center in Cape Girardeau.
Born May 9, 1910, in Kelso, daughter of the late William Theodore and Emma Bertha Goetz Leible, she was a member of St. Augustine Catholic Church and St. Ann's Sodality. She was also a member and past president of the Kelso Senior Citizens.
On April 2, 1932, at Jackson, she married Theon Phillip Seyer who preceded her in death on Jan. 1, 1997.
Survivors include: three daughters, Marilyn LeVan of St. Louis, Judy Bane of Cape Girardeau and Linda Spitler of New Madrid; one brother, Raymond Leible of Sikeston; three sisters, Virginia Hovis of Cape Girardeau, Helen Cox of Kelso and Dorothy St. Clair of Scott City; and three grandchildren.
One brother and one sister also preceded her in death.
Friends may call from 5 to 8 p.m. today at Amick-Burnett Funeral Chapel in Scott City, where a Rosary is scheduled for 6:30 p.m.

Chaffee, MO--Funeral Mass for RACHEL ANN SEYER will be held at St. Ambrose Church of Chaffee, Tuesday at 11:00 a.m., with Rev. James Seyer officiating.  Burial will be in St. Ambrose Cemetery at Chaffee.  
Friends may call at the Amick-Burnett Funeral Home in Chaffee after 5 p.m. today.  Parish prayers will be offered after 7:30 p.m. and a Knights of Columbus service will be held at 8:00 p.m.
Seyer, 72 years old, died at the Chateau Girardeau health center in Cape Saturday, Dec. 26, 1987.  She was born March 13, 1915 in Glennon, Missouri, the daughter of Henry and Mayme DeBrock Vandermeirden.  She married Zeno J. Seyer July 31, 1934 in Glennon.
Seyer worked as a machine operator for the International Shoe Company and later served as secretary at the the Chaffee Nutrition Center.
She was a member of the St. Ambrose Catholic Church of Chaffee and a member of the Ladies Sodality.
Survivors include:  sons, Jerome and Marvin Seyer of Memphis, Tenn.; daughters, Catherine Scherer and Wilma Heisserer of Kelso, Bernice Carrig of Arlington, VA., and Doris Miller of St. Charles; 15 grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband, one sister, and a grand-daughter.

Oran, Mo.--MRS. J. H. SHAFFER of Oran Route 1, died this morning at a hospital in St. Louis where she had been a patient two weeks.
The former Miss Hattie Irene Ray, she is survived by her husband, J. H. Shaffer; two daughters, Mrs. Ray Hanks and Mrs. David Law of St. Louis; two sons, Wilbert and Ray Shaffer of Oran Route 1; her mother, Mrs. I. N. Ray of Gideon; a sister, Mrs. Queenie Gordan of Gideon; two brothers, Ward Ray and Arnold Ray of St. Louis; and seven grandchildren.

Charlotte, NC–MRS. VICKIE SHOWMAKER, 47, died Sept. 22, 1995, at her residence.
Mrs. Showmaker was born April 9, 1948, in Benton, MO, the daughter of Joe Willard Hopper and Mary Beggs Hopper. She was a 1970 graduate of Southern Illinois University, Edwardsville, IL, where she was a member of the Sigma Sigma Sigma sorority.
She had been a Charlotte resident for nine years and was office manager of Environmental Control of Charlotte for six years. Mrs. Showmaker was a member of Carmel Baptist Church in Charlotte where she had served as a nursery volunteer.
A service to celebrate the life of Mrs. Showmaker will be held 3 p.m. Sunday from the sanctuary of Carmel Baptist Church. Officiating will be Dr. Wayne Poplin and the Rev. Dale Seley. The family will receive friends 7-9 p.m. today at McEwen Funeral Service, Pineville Chapel.
Mrs. Showmaker is survived by her beloved husband, Harry L. Showmaker Jr.; daughter, Melissa A. Showmaker, and two sons, Harry L. Showmaker III and Eric L. FORNFELT, MO--JOHN R. SCHULTZ, ex-mayor of Fornfelt, member of the school board and ex-engineer of the Cotton Belt, died at the hospital at Texarkana Sunday morning of gangrene.  He leaves two daughters, age 10 and 13 years old, who have been placed in the Odd Fellows home and one son, 15 years old.  He was a member of the Odd Fellows and the Brotherhood of Firemen.  The remains were brought here Tuesday buried at Fornfelt Tuesday by the orders of which he was a member.  (NOTE:  According to family records his name is spelled SHULTZ and his date of death is Oct 29, 1911; submitted by Virginia Majeske.)

DENVER, CO--HAROLD EDWARD SHONK, 75, of Denver died Jan. 27. Services will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday, Jan. 31, at Christ the King Lutheran Church, with burial at Fort Logan National Cemetery.
Mr. Shonk was born in Chaffee, Mo., on March 17, 1920. He married Freda Dugstad, 1950. He served in the Air Force, and worked for the post office.
Survivors include his wife; son Mark of Denver; daughter Mary Kay of Denver.

SCOTT CITY, MO - ELBERTA MAE “BERTIE” SIMMONS, 97, died at 1:48 p.m. Nov. 14, 2001, at the Lutheran Home in Cape Girardeau.
Born May 9, 1904, in Mill Creek, Ill., to the late Green Perry and Dakota Cruse Watkins, she was a seamstress for 40 years with Ely Walker Co. and a member of the First Baptist Church in Scott City where she taught Sunday school for many years.
On Sept. 5, 1942, she married Otis Simmons, who preceded her in death on May 8, 1987.
Survivors include: two sons, Ralph Menees of Scott City and Ray Menees of Troy; one stepson, Lester Simmons of Scott City; one daughter, Dorothy Raines of Scott City; and 15 grandchildren and 18 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by 1 one son, two grandchildren and 11 brothers and sisters.
Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. Friday at the Amick-Burnett Funeral Chapel in Scott City where funeral services are scheduled for 2 p.m. Saturday. The Rev. Terry Eades will officiate.

Sikeston, MO--ALMA LEE SMITH, 82, of Sikeston died Saturday, May 17, 2008 at her home.  She was born Jan 8, 1926 in Savannah, Tenn., daughter of Jim and Carrie Carlisle Western.  She and James W. Smith Sr. were married Jan 24, 1950 in Piggott, Ark.  He died March 27, 1991.  Smith was a member of First United Pentecostal Church.  Survivors include three sons, James Smith, Jr. of Sand Point, Idaho, Jimmy Smith of Sikeston, Steven Smith of Dexter, Mo; four daughters, Marsha Schnarr of Warrenton, Mo, Donna Newell of Bloomfield, Mo, Mary Williams of Sikeston, Joann Kinser of the home; two sisters, Mable Holmes of Sikeston, Burma Baker of Jackson; two brothers, Jim and Carl Western of Sikeston; 20 grandchildren; 23 great-grandchildren; and a great-great-grandchild.  She was preceded in death by a son, a daughter, a sister and four brothers.  The funeral will be at 2 p.m. today at Ponder Funeral Home in Sikeston, with the Rev. Richard Whitman officiating.  Burial will be in Dogwood Cemetery at Dogwood, Mo.


SIKESTON, MO - JOHNNY LEE SMITH, 48, died at 9:13 a.m. Sept. 9, 2001, at Missouri Delta Medical Center.
Born March 4, 1953, in St. Louis, he was the son of Betty Jean Smith Mancell of Sikeston.
On Dec. 28, 1971, in New Madrid, he married Jackie L. Thaxtion who survives of the home.
Survivors in addition to his wife and mother include: one brother, Jim Bo Mancell of Gulfport, Miss.; and four sisters, Sandra M. Midkiff of Annapolis, Betty Jean Mancell of Jefferson City, Deborah Mancell of Gulfport and Penny M. Eads of Poplar Bluff.

SCOTT CITY - VIOLA SMITH, 92, died at 6:15 a.m. Nov. 3, 2001, at her home.
Born June 2, 1909, in Dongola, Ill., daughter of the late Albert and Stella Watson Mowery, she was a member of Broadway Methodist Church in Scott City and the United Transportation Union Ladies Auxiliary.
On Dec. 24, 1929, in Scott City, she married Arlie William Smith Sr., who preceded her in death on Sept. 4, 1994.
Survivors include: one son, Arlie Smith Jr. of Cape Girardeau; four daughters, Mary Hale and Gladys Slinkard of Scott City, June Peetz of Cape Girardeau and Ruth Brindley of Mission Viejo, Calif.; and 13 grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren.
Two sons, four brothers and two sisters also preceded her in death.

SIKESTON, Mo. - Graveside services for MILDRED FOSTER SNEED, 88, of Sikeston, who died of heart failure Wednesday, Sept. 12, 2001, at her daughter's home in Greenwood, MS will be at 2:30 p.m. Friday at Odd Fellows Cemetery in Charleston, Mo.
Mrs. Sneed was employed as the deputy recorder of Scott County, Mo., for 11 years.
A native of Scott County, her ancestors were pioneers of Cape Girardeau, Mo., Benton, Mo., and surrounding communities.
She was a member of the New Savannah Baptist Church near Blodgett, Mo. She was past president of the Scott County Women's Democratic Club. She was a graduate of Benton High School.
She was preceded in death by her husband, William Audie Sneed, a brother and two sisters.
She is survived by one daughter, Sally Ann Lott of Greenwood; a son, James Audie Sneed of Sikeston; and five grandchildren.

Denver, CO--WILLIAM LEE SPENCER, 72, of Denver died June 28, 1992. Services were July 1 in Little Stone Chapel. Burial was in Crown Hill Cemetery. Mr. Spencer was born in Benton, Mo. GREENVILLE, KY-- BETTY LOUISE SPRAGUE, 63, of Greenville died Thursday, March 11, 1993, at her home. She was born in Scott County, Mo., and was a member of Greenville Second Baptist Church.
Survivors include her husband, Rex Sprague; a son, Larry W. Sprague of Auburn, Ill.; two daughters, Vicki L. Sprague and Lisa Ann Hayward, both of Greenville; seven grandchildren; and three brothers, Bob Perry and Paul Perry, both of Memphis, Tenn., and Cecil Perry of Helena, Mo.

KANSAS CITY, MO--PROFESSOR EMERITUS TRUMAN P. STAUFFER SR., 80, Blue Springs, MO, died Saturday, December 18, 1999, at St. Mary's Hospital of Blue Springs. Funeral services will be 1 p.m. Monday, December 20, at D. W. Newcomer's Sons Blue Springs Chapel; interment in Blue Springs Cemetery. Friends may call 6-8 p.m. Sunday at the chapel.
Professor Stauffer was born May 29, 1919, in Illmo, MO. He lived in the Kansas City area for over 40 years. He was a Pentecostal minister for over 20 years, first in Cairo, IL, and then in the Kansas City area. He received his teaching certificate in 1961, and taught at Fort Osage School from 1961-1968. In 1964, he received his Master's Degree from the University of Missouri-Kansas City, and in 1974, he received his Ph.D. from the University of Nebraska. He was head of the Geoscience Department at UMKC from 1971-1984. He became an Assistant Professor in 1972, and an Associate Professor in 1974.
In 1979, he became a full Professor of the Geosciences, and in 1985, he received the title of Professor Emeritus at UMKC. He was a well known leading authority on underground space utilization and had many books published on the subject.
He was preceded in death by his parents, William and Wilhemina Stauffer; and his son, Truman P. Stauffer Jr. He is survived by his wife, Lillie V. Stauffer, Blue Springs, MO; his three grandsons, Ray Rennock, Kansas City, MO, Zane Stauffer and Jason Stauffer, both of Blue Springs, MO; and three great-grandchildren.

Memphis, TN--FREDERICK E. STECK, 67, of Memphis, attorney, former prosecuting attorney of Scott County, Mo., and former assistant attorney general for the State of Missouri under Gov. Warren Hearns, died Saturday at his home. Services will be at 1 p.m. Tuesday at First Baptist Church, where he was a member, with entombment in Memorial Park Mausoleum. Memorial Park Funeral Home has charge. He was a World War II Navy veteran. Mr. Steck, the widower of Wayburn Steck, leaves three daughters, Sharon Counce, Carol Graw and Deborah Alexander, all of Memphis; three sisters, Dorothy McQuerrey, Gretta Miller and Julia Carr, all of St. Louis, and eight grandchildren.  --Commercial Appeal, The (Memphis, TN) - January 17, 1994


Shrewsbury, MO--REV. ALOIS J. STEVENS, 78; LONGTIME PASTOR-- The Rev. Alois J. Stevens, a retired Catholic priest, died Tuesday (Sept. 27, 1994) at Mary Queen and Mother Center in Shrewsbury. He had hepatitis for many years. He was 78.
Father Stevens was born and reared in St. Louis. He graduated from Cardinal Glennon-Kenrick Seminary. After he was ordained in 1942, he served briefly as an assistant pastor at St. Paul Catholic Church in Pine Lawn. He later served for many years as an assistant pastor or pastor at various parishes in the Springfield-Cape Girardeau diocese.
He was also a former chaplain at the Missouri State Penitentiary, the Algoa Correctional Center and at St. Mary's Hospital, all in or near Jefferson City.
He retired in 1992 as pastor of St. Lawrence Catholic Church in New Hamburg, Mo. He had lived at the Regina Cleri Home in Shrewsbury since last year.
A funeral Mass will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Monday at Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church, 4092 Blow Street. Visitation will be from 3 to 9 p.m. Sunday at Southern Funeral Home, 6322 South Grand Boulevard. Burial will be at the St. Lawrence Catholic Church Cemetery in New Hamburg.
Among the survivors are four sisters, Marie Stevens, Catherine Stevens, Dolores Fuegner and Frances Rowland, all of St. Louis, and a brother, Harry Stevens of Mehlville.  --St. Louis Post-Dispatch (MO) - September 30, 1994

SIKESTON, MO - DORIS JEAN HULL STOKES, 43, died at 11:50 p.m. Dec. 5, 2001, from injuries sustained in an automobile accident near Vanduser.
Born March 17, 1958, in Chaffee, daughter of Alene Randles Barlow of Chaffee and the late Russell Barlow, she owned and operated Heartland Trailer Manufacture and Sales Incorporated.
Her husband, Mark Stokes, survives of the home.
Survivors in addition to her husband and mother include: two sons and one daughter-in-law, Jerrod and Nicole Hull and Christopher Hull of Sikeston; one daughter, Victoria Hull of Sikeston; and two brothers, Donald Barlow of Cape Girardeau and Jim Barlow of Delta.
Friends may call from 5 to 8 p.m. Friday at Nunnelee Funeral Chapel, where services are scheduled for 10:30 a.m. Saturday.
The Rev. Tim Russell of Dexter will officiate.
Burial will follow in Union Park Cemetery in Chaffee.

LAWRENCE, KS--Services for FRANK A. STONE, 78, Lawrence, will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday at the Amick-Burnett Funeral Home in Chaffee, Mo. Burial will follow at the Union Park Cemetery, Chaffee.
Mr. Stone died Sunday morning at Lawrence Memorial Hospital following a long illness. He was born April 17, 1912, in Olive Branch, Ill.
He had lived in Lawrence the past two years, moving here from Chaffee. He was a retired truck driver.
Mr. Stone was a member of the V.F.W. in Chaffee and the Eagles Lodge Aerie No. 4154 in Advance, Mo.
He was married to Martha Burns Stone. She died in April 1988.
Survivors include a son, Charles Stone, Lawrence; a sister, Helen Brant, Scott City, Mo.; and two grandchildren.
Warren-McElwain Mortuary is in charge of local arrangements.

BANNING, CA--Graveside services for ROY L. STONE, 74, will be at 1:45 p.m. tomorrow at Riverside National Cemetery. He died Sunday of a heart attack at Kaiser Foundation Hospital in Riverside.
Weaver Mortuary in Beaumont is handling arrangements.
Mr. Stone was born in Benton, Mo. He lived in Banning five years. He worked in automobile sales 35 years, lastly for Mandy William Oldsmobile.
He is survived by his wife, Johnsie G; four daughters, Margo Elliott and Karlene Cole, both of Iowa, Diana L. Price of San Pedro, and Terry Stone of Banning; two grandchildren; and a sister, Clara Horner of Missouri.

CHAFFEE, Mo. -- BRENDA LOUISE STRODER, 65, of Chaffee died Sunday, Nov. 9, 2008, at Chaffee Nursing Center.
    She was born Dec. 18, 1942, at Blodgett, Mo., daughter of Elmo “Bill” and Mary Orzella Lindsey Gunter.
    Brenda retired as postmaster at the Whitewater post office. She served as president of Scott County Historical Society and Scott County Democrat Club and was a member of Cape Girardeau County Historical Society, Chaffee Historical Society and 8th District Women’s Democratic Club.
    Survivors include a son, Skip (Jamie) Stroder of Crump; a daughter, Mary Elizabeth Stroder of California; three brothers, James “Al” Gunter of Chaffee, Roy Gunter of Benton, Mo., Daniel Gunter of Seattle; a sister, Sharon Anielake of Benton; two grandchildren, Cody Michael Schremp and Tyler Stroder of Crump.
    She was preceded in death by her parents and two brothers, Stanley and Gene Gunter.
    Friends may call after 4 p.m. Wednesday at Amick-Burnett Funeral Chapel in Chaffee.
    The funeral will be at 11 a.m. Thursday at the chapel, with the Rev. Vyron Yount officiating. Burial will be in Barks Chapel Cemetery at Crump.

LaPORTE, IN–MILDRED G. SUMMERLIN, 83, of LaPorte, died at 8:13 a.m. Saturday (April 19, 1997) at Fountainview Terrace, LaPorte.
The funeral service will be held at noon Tuesday at the Cutler Funeral Home, LaPorte. Burial will be in Pine Lake Cemetery.
Friends may call from 10 a.m. until the time of service Tuesday at the funeral home. 
Mrs. Summerlin was born Dec. 30, 1913, in Perkins, Mo., the daughter of Arthur and Lora Haney Garrison.
