Hello and welcome to the Genealogy Trails website for St. Clair County, Missouri. As we believe all data should be without cost, our goal at Genealogy Trails is to help you track your ancestors through time by transcribing genealogical and historical data and placing it online for the free use of all researchers.

This is a continuation of our original, and highly successful, Genealogy Trails Illinois History and Genealogy Project and we are excited about this opportunity to expand into other states. We welcome your feedback and comments, and of course, your data contributions.

ST. CLAIR COUNTY

Is situated in the west-southwest part of the State, separated from the Kansas State line, by Vernon and Bates counties. 
The surface is diversified and rolling, with a desirable division of prairie and timber.  
The soil is well adapted to most farming purposes, and admirably adapted for stock growing. 
There is always an active demand, at good prices, for all kinds of stock. 
This county contains some iron ore, and indications of lead. 
There are in this county 10,000 acres of unentered Government Land.  Population in 1860, 6,256.
