RITES HELD THURSDAY FOR PAULINE DODD

Pauline Dodd, wife of John Dodd, was born in Prairie Durocher Ill., May 17, 1888 and passed away at the Davis Clinic, July 21, 1954 at the age of 66 years, two months and four days. Mrs. Dodd has been in falling health the past several years. She is survived by her husband, John H. Dodd; one son, Russell Dodd of Dexter; two sisters, Mrs. Mary Thurston of Dexter and Mrs. Emma Thurston of Poplar Bluff; two brothers, Charley Queffemme of LeMay and Jewell Quelfeme of Poplar Bluff. She is also survived by a grandaughter and many other relatives and friends. Funeral services were conducted at First General Baptist Church last Thursday afternoon, July 22, 1954 Ref. Laurence Vieth assisted by Rev. Orville Myers officiating. Interment was in the Dexter cemetery, Strickland-Rainey service.

John P. Hayes was born in Henderson county, Tenn., Dec. 23, 1859 and passed away at the home of his son Ed Hayes on July 20, 1954 at the age of 94 years, six months and twenty five days. Mr. Hayes spent most of his early life in Texas and Henderson county Tenn., coming to Missouri in 1919, where he had been since, living in Dunklin and Pemiscot counties. For the past several years, he had made his home with his children. He was united in marriage to Elizabeth Linsey in 1890 and to this union a child, Tilmon Jessie, was born. In 1902 he was married to Martha McPeake and to this union nine children were born, three of whom preceded him in death.


He professed a hope in Christ in 1932 and united with the Missionary Baptist church at Mid City, Mo., saying at that time he regretted that he had spent so much of his life without God. He is survived by seven children; Tilman Jessie Hayes of Neelyville, W.M., Edd and Parker Hayes, all of Lernie, Mrs. Ada Pitman of Dayton Ohio, Riley Hayes and Otis Hayes of Braggadocia, 23 grandchildren, two great grandchildren and many other relatives and friends. Funeral services were conducted at the General Baptist church in Bernie, Wednesday afternoon July 21, with Rev. R.L. Shell, pastor of the Missionary Baptist church of Malden officiating. Edgar Hayes, son of the late Mr. and Mrs. John Parker Hayes was born Nov. 13, 1909, at Lexington Tenn., and died in the Mark Twain Caring Center at Poplar Bluff on Feb. 11, 2005 at the age of 95. Mr. Hayes was a retired farmer and a resident of Bernie. He was united in marriage toIva Mae Ray in February of 1930 at Bragg City. Mrs. Hayes preceded him in death on April 25, 1989. Survivors include three sons, Shirrel D. Hayes of Paducah KY, Denny L. Hayes of Lake of the Ozarks, and James Ray Hayes of Malden; one daughter Emma Jean Foust of Poplar Bluff, 13 grandchildren; and many great grandchildren. Besides his wife and parents he was preceded in death by four brothers, Otis Hayes, Riley Hayes, Bill Hayes and Parker Hayes; and one sister Ada Pitman. Visitation will be held from 1 - 2 p.m. Sunday Feb. 13, 2005 at the Rainey-Mathis Funeral Home in Bernie. Services will be conducted at 2 p.m. in the Rainey- Mathis Funeral Chapel in Bernie with Rev. Calvin Buhler officiating. Interment will follow in the Bernie Cemetery.
