Mary (Fox) Hogan Brett
Mary Hogan Brett, age 69, of Mexico, Missouri, died in Audrain Medical Center on Sunday, December 29, 1996 at 9:48 p.m. She was born at Cabool, Missouri, on April 25, 1927 to Frank R. and Lena Mae Voltz Fox. She married William K. Hogan on August 21, 1945. He died February 29, 1960. She then married A. T. Brett on May 25, 1963. She had been employed for ten years at Sad Sams in Mexico and later worked for Continental Bag for 17 1/2 years, retiring in August, 1991. She lived in the Mexico area over 50 years and was a member of Friendship Baptist Church in Mexico. (Missouri)

She was preceded in death by her father and a daughter, Kaga Jo Ann Hogan. She is survived by her mother, Lena Mae Fox of Mexico; her husband, A. T. Brett of the home; two sons, William Russell Hogan of Wellsville, Missouri, and Richard Taylor Brett of Mexico; one stepson, David Thomas Brett of Foley, Missouri; four daughters, Sue Diane Nolan of Benton City, Missouri, Lois Lee Hodson of Centralia, Missouri, and Connie Lou Mackey and Penny Renea Heckes, both of Mexico; 18 grandchildren, six step grandchildren; 4 great grandchildren; six step great grandchildren; a brother, Imon F. Fox of Cabool; and a half sister, Alice Framer. Services will be Thursday, January 2, 1997 at 1:30 p.m. in Arnold Funeral Home in Mexico, with Rev. Marvin Jones, officiating. Memorials may be made to Friendship Baptist Church or the Dream Factory.

DON HENRY BURR
Don Henry Burr was born April 8th, 1867 and died Sept. 11, 1937, making him at the time of death 70 years, 5 months and 3 days. He was born in Arkansas and moved with
his parents to his present home when a very small child.
He leaves to mourn his loss two brothers, Amos, of the home, and Joe Burr of Mtn.Grove, route 1. Two nieces and four nephews and a host of friends also survive him.
His parents proceeded him in death many years ago.
He was converted to the faith of Christ and joined the Baptist church when a young man. He was always a willing and faithful attendant at all religious services. He
was a great lover of music and liked to sing. He was always a true friend to all and will be greatly missed by all.
Funeral services was conducted at the Woods (Wood) cemetery by the Rev. Carty, where his body was laid to rest to await judgment call.

Sleep on dear brother, Peaceful be thy silent rest.
God has called thee, Home to rest.
We will meet you by and by, In that home beyond the sky
And our sorrows will be o'er, And we'll live for ever more. - a friend

Obit: HULDA CAROLINE BANDY

Hulda Caroline Bandy passed away Wednesday, May 31, 1950 after an illness of five months. Mrs. Bandy, daughter of David E. and Elizabeth Chambers, was born in Texas County, Missouri, September 18, 1868 and passed away at the home of her son, Virgil Bandy, at the age of 81 years, 8 months and 13 days. She had spent her entire life in Texas County.
She was united in marriage to Francis Powell Bandy and to this union were born 10 children. Her husband and four children preceded her in death. She professed faith in Christ in her early days and was a member of the Big Creek Church. Those who survive are four sons and two daughters: Otis of Houston Mo., Luther, Virgil and Jim of Yukon, Mo.; Mrs. Birtus McKinney of Yukon, Mo. and Mrs. Tressie McKinney of Mountain Grove. She is also survived by one brother, George Chambers of Pittsburg Kans., and one sister Mrs. Leona McCart of Willow Springs Mo.
Funeral services were held Friday, June 2, at 2:00 p.m. at the Big Creek Church, conducted by Rev. Fred Wynn. Singers were the Big Creek Class and Mrs. Clyda Hibbs of Raymondville, with Mrs. Sylvia Smith at the piano. Interment was in the Big Creek Cemetery under the direction of Elliott Funeral Home.


Name of Deceased: Otis Bandy

Obit: One of Houston's best-known citizens, Otis Bandy, 70, died suddenly March 11 at his home here. He had been ill only three weeks.

Mr. Bandy became well acquainted with hundreds of school children and teachers through his association with the Houston schools, as custodian for several years, and later as the owner of a cafe which was adjacent to the high school.

Lunchtime for many students over the years meant a "get-together" at Bandy's.

For many years Mr. Bandy had been interested in growing strawberries. The berries were grown on a small tract of land at the Bandy home in Houston and also at the Bandy farm at Yukon. Scores of persons in this area bought strawberries from Mr. Bandy.

He was born June 6, 1893, at Big Creek, Mo., the son of the late Francis P. and Hulda Bandy.

On Jan. 25, 1914, he was united in marriage to May McCubbins of Yukon. Two daughters, Orba and Audrey, were born to them. Both are now members of the Houston school faculty.

The Bandys moved to Houston from Yukon in 1937. He drove a school bus for four years. Mr. and Mrs. Bandy observed their 50th wedding anniversary Jan. 26 of this year.

He was a long-time and active member of the Big Creek Free Will Baptist Church. Survivors are his wife, two daughters, Audrey of the home, and Mrs. Orba Benefiel, Houston;
a grandson, Larry Lee, Houston; two sisters, Mrs. Tressie McKinney and Mrs. Birtus McKinney, two brothers, Virgil and Luther Bandy, all of Yukon.

Funeral services were conducted at 2:30 p.m. Saturday, March 14, at the Big Creek Church by the Rev. Don Rogers of Lebanon and the Rev. Fred Wynn of Mtn. Grove. The Rev. Payton Smyres, accompanied by his daughter, sang "Sunrise Tomorrow," "When I've Gone the Last Mile of the Way" and "Beyond the Sunset." Pallbearers were his nephews, Hubert Lay, Harold McCubbins, Gary Bandy, Wayne McKinney, Everett Chambers, and Frank McCubbins.

Interment was in the Big Creek Cemetery under the direction of the Evans Funeral Home.


Name of Deceased: Julia Florence Hayes McKinney Brown

Obit: Julia Florence McKinney Brown, 83, daughter of Rage and Mattie Hayes, was born Aug. 31, 1907 at Huggins. She died Sep. 14, 1990 at Ozarks Medical Center at West Plains.

She married Earl Clarence McKinney July 28, 1925. They had three sons. He preceded her in death.

She married Joseph Willard Brown March 31, 1978. He preceded her in death.

She spent her lifetime in this area. For the last several years she had lived in Houston and worked at various restaurants and cafes.

Surviving are three sons, Howard McKinney of Wallowa, Ore., Charles McKinney of Licking and Jack McKinney of Timpson, Texas; 15 grandchildren -- seven of whom she raised; and 21 great-grandchildren.

Services were Sep. 17 at the Evans Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Wesley Wallace officiating.
Burial was in the Emery Cemetery.


Name of Deceased: James Robert Brown

Obit: Born March 9, 1895, near Houston, James Robert Brown was the son of John W. and Rosa A. Brown. He died July 3, 1967, at the age of 72.

He was united in marriage to Pearl Watson near Houston November 21, 1920, and to this union six children were born. Two preceded him in death, Freida Virginia at three days of age in 1922 and Wendell Elbert at 12 years of age in 1938.

Surviving are his wife, Pearl, four daughters, Mrs. Hazel Shaeffer of Jefferson City, Missouri, Mrs. Arlene Reardon of Peoria, Illinois, Mrs. Roberta Moore of Rolla, Mrs. Sharon Sue Lay of Decatur, Illinois, and six grandchildren.

Also surviving are two sisters, Mrs. Etta McKinney of Houston, and Mrs. Trevil Haney of Yukon, one brother, Melvin Brown, of Garner, Iowa, several nieces and nephews and a host of friends.

He was an active member of the Central Baptist Church. He was a veteran of World War I and was employed by Reddish Trucking Service for a few years, before starting his own express service between Houston and Springfield in 1938. He was employed by King Hardware a short time and at Fort Leonard Wood for several years.

Funeral services were held July 5 at the Central Baptist Church with Reverend Kirby Fletcher officiating. Burial was in the Central Baptist Cemetery under the direction of Evans-Elliott.

Pallbearers were his nephews: Harry Moody, Bob Wallace, Ernest Wall, Wayne McKinney, Glen McKinney, and Lewis Miller.


Name of Deceased: Pearl Watson Brown

Obit: Mary Pearl Brown, 82, daughter of Hattie L. and William T. Watson, was born July 27, 1902, near Houston. She died Jan. 12, 1985, in Rolla.

She was united in marriage to James Robert Brown Nov. 21, 1920. The couple had six children.

Preceding her in death were her husband, Robert; two children, Freida Virginia and Wendell Elbert; three sisters, Stella Moody, Alta Wall, and Bertha Wallace, and two brothers, Wm. A. Watson and Elmer Watson.

Surviving are four daughters, Mrs. Hazel Shaefer of Jefferson City, Mrs. Arlene Reardon of La Porte, Indiana, Mrs. Roberta Moore of Rolla, and Sue Lay of Scottsdale, Arizona; three grandsons, four step-grandchildren, six great-grandchildren and nine step-great-grandchildren, and one brother, Charles Watson of Houston.

Mrs. Brown lived her entire life in Texas County. She was active in the Central Baptist Church until recent years when failing health prevented her from attending regularly. Her lifetime was devoted to her church and her family.

Services were Monday, January 14, at the Evans Funeral Home with the Rev. Harold Smith officiating.
Burial was in the Central Baptist Cemetery.


Name of Deceased: Rosa Ann Wallace Brown

Obit: Rosa Ann Wallace, daughter of William Sidney and Martha Ann Wallace, was born April 24, 1874 and died on August 3, 1956, making her age at the time of death 82 years, 3 months, and 10 days. She was born in Sullivan County, Indiana.

On December 6, 1891 she was united in marriage to John W. Brown. To this union two sons and two daughters were born. Mr. Brown preceded her in death November 15, 1937.

Mrs. Brown was converted and joined the Morris Hill Freewill Baptist Church at an early age. Several years later she converted her membership over to the Central Baptist Church, where she was a member at the time of her death. She also was a member of the American Legion Auxiliary.

She is survived by two daughters: Mrs. Etta McKinney and Mrs. Trevil Haney, both of Houston; two sons, Melvin Brown of Garner, Iowa, and Robert Brown of Houston; one sister, Mrs. Rhoda Wilson of Springfield; 18 grandchildren, 17 great-grandchildren, several nieces and nephews, other relatives and many friends.

Funeral services were held Sunday afternoon, August 5, at the Central Baptist Church, conducted by Rev. Kirby Fletcher with singing by the Big Creek Choir. Pallbearers were grandsons and grandsons-in-law: Wayne Venable, Robert Morris, Weldon Moore, Mason Reardon, Wayne and Glen McKinney.
Burial was in the church cemetery under direction of Elliott's with graveside services conducted by the Houston Post of the American Legion Auxiliary.
