Obituary
Thomas Bird (Byrd) Florida
A precious one from us has gone, A voice we loved is stilled;
A place is vacant in our home, Which never can be filled.
God in His wisdom has called, Our loved one far away;
But let each one of us prepare, To meet again some day.
Into the precincts of a once happy but now sorrow stricken home, the Death Angel made its appearance and claimed
for its own a loving husband and father.
Thomas Bird Florida was born in 1833 and died near Simmons May 20, 1905. He had been in poor health for some
time, but seemed to be better and went to Simmons Saturday.
He started home but only came a short distance when the spirit took its flight to the god who gave it. The dead
body was found in the road at six o'clock Saturday evening.
Sad as it is for relatives and friends to give up their dear ones, yet when we stop to think we realize that
it is only a question of a very short time with those who live
out their allotted three score and ten years.He has many relatives who have preceded him to that better land to
await his coming.
We know that ere this his feet hath touched the golden strand, the angels joyful for one so good and true to join
their number, hath borne, him through that celestial city,
that Christ himself, our loving Savior, hath placed a crown of righteousness on his brow. Today he sleeps neath
the silent turf in the church yard.
But dear relatives, while you feel almost bowed to earth with your grief, feel that life is almost unbearable without
your loving husband and father, remember that "God doeth all things well," and what is your loss is heaven's
gain. Only prepare to meet him when death claims you.
On Sunday evening funeral services were conducted at the Union cemetery by Rev. Long before a host of weeping relatives and friends, where they paid their last respects to that which was mortal. He leaves a wife and twelve children to mourn for him. L.M.I.

"There's only one mother In all the wide world, One who can comfort, When others are cold;
One who can sympathize, When there's a pain; One who can love, When there's a shame;
One who can smile, When there's a tear; One who will help, When there is fear;
Yes, only one mother, For each one on earth, And she is the mother, Who gave you birth."
