JOHN HENRY WOOD
The following may have been written in memory of John Henry Wood by Edna Eugenia Wood House, with the help of Iva Candes Fielden Wood, - zmp
John Henry Wood, who was born Jan. 16, 1852 in Washington County, Va.He was married to Matilda Caylor in the year 1873, they come to Cabool, Missouri,
about the year 1885 and have lived in this community the rest of his life.
To this union was born 8 children. George Campbell, Willie, and Clarence Wood of Cabool, Missouri, Mrs. Henry Flowers and Mrs. Joe Pickle both of Montezuma, Kansas.
The other 2 children died when in childhood. All the children was at his bedside at the time of death.
He made a profession of Religion and was united with the Methodist Church at the early age of 24.
He leaves to mourn their loss a devoted wife, Six Children and eleven Grandchildren, other relatives, and many friends.
He had been an Invalid for several years, but bore his suffering patiently and willing for his time to come.
The Funeral was conducted at his home - by Rev. Carty and burial in the family cemetery.

"I was also with Grandpa when he died. The funeral was helt on the frount portch.
One song was played on his record player {Climbing up the Golden Stairs},his request.

NEWTON C. WOOD
Death came to Newton Campbell Wood at Willow Springs on October 4, (1953) at the age of 71 years, 10 months and 27 days.
Mr. Wood was born in Washington County, Virginia, November 7, 1881, the son of John H. and Matilda Wood.

He came to Texas county with his parents at the age of three years and spent most of his life in this vicinity. Mr. Wood was a member of the Providence Baptist church.
He was preceded in death by his father, mother, two brothers and one sister.

Left to mourn his passing are two brothers and two sisters: Willie Wood of Cabool;Mrs. Cintha Flowers of Montezuma, Kansas; Mrs. Pearlie Armbuster, of Cleveland,
Ohio, and Clarence Wood of Willow Springs. Also a number of nieces and nephews.
Services were held Tuesday at Providence church with Rev. Payton Smyer officiating.Burial in Woods cemetery under direction of Elliott-Gentry.


(Note: Newton "Campbell" Wood and Josephine Davis were married 04 Jan.,1914 but were not married long. Campbell remained single the rest of his life.)

WILLIAM SAMUEL WOOD
William Samuel Wood, son of John Henry and Matilda Wood was born Sept. 21, 1885 in Texas County, Mo.
He died July 11, 1958, at his home in Cabool, Mo.
He was united in marriage to Iva Candes Fielden, Nov. 4, 1908 and to this union were born two children, a son Alva Robert Wood of Cabool, Mo., and daughter
Edna Eugenia House of Albuquerque, New Mexico.
He was converted in 1913. He joined the church at Oak Grove and later changed his membership to Providence Free Will Baptist church where he was one of the
charter members and ordained as a deacon.
Surviving besides his wife and two children are two sisters, Mrs. Cynthia (Cyntha) Flowers, Montezuma, Kans., and Mrs. Pearl Pickle, San Diego, California,
and 8 grandchildren.
He was a loving husband and father and a wonderful grandfather.Services were held at 2 P.M. Monday at the Providence Free Will Baptist church with Rev. Payton Smyer officiating.
Burial was in the Wood family cemetery under the direction of Elliott-Gentry of Cabool.

IVA CANDES FIELDEN WOOD

Iva Candes Fielden, youngest daughter of John and Sarah Coats Fielden was born near Cabool on January 2, 1884 and departed this life in the Birch Tree Manor
November 17, 1974 after a long illness her age being 90 years, ten months and 15 days.

On November 4, 1908 she was united in marriage to William S. Wood and to this union two children were born. For many years they lived in the Oak Grove community where
they were engaged in farming. About 20 years ago they moved to Cabool. Mr. Wood died in 1958 and also preceding her in passing were two brothers and five sisters
and a great grandchild.

At a young age she professed her faith in the Lord and united with the Union Baptist Church, later she transferred her membership to the Providence Freewill Baptist
Church where it has remained. She was a fine Christian woman, who will be sadly missed by her family and friends, but leaves many wonderful memories for them.

Surviving are a daughter: Mrs. Edna House, Albuquerque, New Mexico, a son, Alva Wood, Cabool, Mo., eight grandchildren, 16 g-grandchildren, 22 gg-grandchildren,
six step g-grandchildren and one step gg-grandchild, also a host of other relatives and many friends and neighbors.
Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Wednesday in the Elliott-Gentry Chapel with Rev. Payton Smyer officiating. Burial was in the Wood Cemetery.

CLARENCE C. WOOD

Clarence Columbus Wood, son of John H. and Matilda Wood was born in Texas County,Mo., on March 16, 1897, and departed this life at Willow Springs, Mo., on
March 16, 1956 (his birthday), making his age at the time of death 59 years. On Sept. 6, 1919, he was united by marriage to Ella G. Altis and to this union two children were born.
For the past few years Clarence had been employed by the Willow Springs Cheese Plant. He is a Veteran of World War 1, and at the time of his passing he was a member
of the Cabool Baptist Church. Those left to mourn his loss are: his wife, Ella of the home, one daughter, Mrs.Pearl West, Willow Springs, one son,
Harold Dean of the U. S. Army stationed in Wildwood, Alaska, one brother, Willie Wood, Cabool, two sisters, Cyntha Flowers, of Montezuma, Kans., Pearl Armbruster of Kansas City, Kans., three grandchildren and a host of other relatives and friends.

Funeral services were held at 2 P.M. Tuesday at the Cabool Baptist church with Rev. Payton Smyer officiating. Burial was in Cabool cemetery, under the direction of
Elliott-Gentry Funeral Home.

ELLA GLADYS WOOD

Cabool Enterprise
On July 20, 1903 near Cabool, Missouri, Henry and Matilda Altis welcomed into their family a daughter, Ella Gladys. She passed away in Greene Haven Nursing Home, Springfield,
Missouri, March 19, 1995 at the age of 91 years, seven months and 29 days.
On September 6, 1919 in Texas County she was united in marriage to Clarence C. Wood and to this union two children were born. They lived in the Cabool area for several
years, then moved to Willow Springs, Missouri.

Clarence passed away on March 16, 1956. She then moved to Springfield, where she assisted her daughter and son-in-law, Pearl and Vern West, in the operation of a
restaurant for many years.

She was a hard working lady who enjoyed visiting with people, always greeting them with a smile. She was a member of First General Baptist Church of Springfield, a
person devoted to her church and family, who will be sadly missed. She was a past member of the Ladies' Auxiliary of the VFW.

Besides her husband she has been preceded by four brothers, two great grandchildren, a great great grandchild, and a son-in-law, Vern West.
She leaves her daughter, Pearl West of Springfield; a son, Harold Dean Wood, Grand Prairie, Texas; five grandchildren; 12 great grandchildren, 11 great great grandchildren
and a host of other relatives and friends.

Funeral services were 1 p.m. Wednesday, March 22, 1995 in Elliott-Gentry Chapel in Cabool with Rev. Bruce McNeeley of Springfield officiating. Burial was in Cabool Cemetery.

Martha Emline Wood

Obituary
Martha Emline Wood was born in Washington county, Mo., Aug. 6, 1837 and came to Texas county with her parents in 1845 and was married to John House June 8, 1856.
Died Feb. 17, 1918 to this union was born 10 children which two preceded her. She has 47 grandchildren 24 great grandchildren. Mrs. House moved on the place of her
death in 1856. Left to mourn husband and 8 children.

Mary Elizabeth Fielden Wood

The neighbors were all shocked Thursday night when they heard of the sudden death of Mrs. George Woods. (Mary Elizabeth Fielden Wood) Mrs. Woods was in poor health.
She leaves her husband three sons and two daughters to mourn her loss.

George Washington Wood

George Washington Wood passed to his eternal home Monday night at 10 o'clock April 15, 1940.
He was born in Washington county Virginia, November 19, 1873, making his age at the time of his death, 66 years, four months and 27 days.
He was married to Mary Elizabeth Fielden, December 22, 1895. His wife preceeded him in death June 15, 1933 and one son, Lilbern Wood, March 8, 1897.
He was converted and united with the Methodist church at the age of seventeen years.
He moved his membership to Hamilton Creek church later the Free Wills moved to the church known as Providence and there he remained as a true and faithful member until death.
He leaves to mourn his going, three sons, Fred, John, Ernest (Earnest) and two daughters, Mrs. Ross Loman and Mrs. F. E. Loman all of Cabool; also three brothers,
Willie, Clarence and Campbell Wood and two sisters, Cynthia Flowers of Montezuma, Kan., Pearlie Pickle, Dodge City, Kansas, and five grandchildren, and many relatives
and friends elsewhere.

He was buried at the Wood cemetery and Uncle George Scott preached the funeral Tuesday afternoon at 3 o'clock.

W. H. WILLIAMS DEAD

William H. Williams was born in Washington County, Va., Oct. 28th, 1842, and departed this life, Sept. 13, 1920 making him at the time of his death
77 years, 10 months and 16 day old. He grew to manhood in the county where he was born. He was a vounteer (volunteer) in the Civil War and served
his country four years. At the close of the war he united in marriage to Nancy Dixon, Oct. 23, 1865. To this union was born 5 children, 2 sons, and 3 daughters, the eldest
of which died at the age of 2 years, one daughter; Mrs. Callies Bullock lives at Centralia, Wash., and Mrs. Hattie Stephens on Elk Creek, Mo. The youngest son, J.
L. Williams at Parsons, Kans., and D. E. (Dave) Williams with whom the father and mother made their home, lives at Simmons, Mo.

W. H. Williams was converted in 1877 and with his wife united with the M. E. Church. In the year of 1886 he with his wife and children moved to Texas County, Mo., and
settled on Elk Creek and in the year 1892 he and his wife united with the Baptist church.

His companion departed this life Feb. 6, 1917. In the year 1907 with D. E. he moved to Cabool, Mo., remaining there 12 years. Then to Simmons, Mo., where he transferred
his membership to the Rocky Branch church remaining there till the time of his death of which he was a deacon and a faithful worker until called to the great beyond.
The funeral was held Wednesday September 15 at Chapel Hill under the direction of the Masonic Fraternity of which the deceased was a member.
Rev. C. D. Fry preached the funeral sermon.

David Elijah Williams

David Elijah Williams, son of William and Nancy Williams, was born in Washington County, Virginia on Dec. 12, 1872. Departed this life March 16, 1940, age 67 years,
3 months and 4 days.At the age of 14 he came with his parents to Texas county, Mo., and settled on a farm near Elk Creek. In 1895 he was united in marriage to Miss Elizabeth Ford.
In spite of the fact that no children were born to this home, it was a happy home. Both working together and were very devoted to each other. He was an honest and industrious citizen
and was respected by all. For five years he has been failing in health and had realized for some time that he must soon depart this life. In all his sickness he never complained, but endured
it with patience. Besides his companion he leaves two sisters, Mrs. Harriett Stephens of Seattle, Wash., and Mrs. Callie Bullock of Centralia, Wash., one brother,
James Williams of Tulsa,Okla., and many other relatives and friends to regret his going. The brother was present.
His companion feels through the efforts of her prayers and God's goodness, that he is at rest in the "Heavenly Home."
Funeral services were conducted by the Rev. E. F. Maness at the Baptist church Monday at 2:00 p.m. and interment was made in the Cabool cemetery, under the directions of the
Elliott Funeral Home.

OBIT - Alonzo M. Whitson

Alonzo Minitree Whitson was born in Fairfield, Ill., April 1, 1877 and departed this life May 13, 1937, making his age at the time of death 60 years, 1 month and
13 days. He came with his parents to Douglas county in 1890, was married to Becky Freeman January 5, 1902. She died October 17, 1911.
To this union three children were born, one which preceeded him in death.

He came to Texas county in 1914 and was united in marriage to Martha Louella House (daughter of Jim and Mary House) on June 14, 1914. To this union seven children
were born, one preceeding him in death. He leaves to mourn his death his wife and eight children: Mrs. Faye Ellis, Elk Creek, Mo, Mrs. Alta Gilreath, Detroit, Mich.,
Mrs. Lavern Curtner, Cabool, Mo., Edison Whitson, Frieda Whitson, Geraldine Whitson, all of Cabool, Velmer Whitson, Cabool, Mo., Mrs. Essie Riley, Cabool, Mo. Also three
brothers and two sisters and a number of relatives and friends.

Funeral services were conducted at 3:30 p.m., Friday at the Union church by Rev.George Scott. Buriel was also at Union cemetery, the Elliott Funeral home being in charge.
He professed faith in Christ at Oak Grove and was baptized by Rev. Scott in 1932 and lived a good Christian life until the Lord called him home.

Luella Wood


Luella Wood, daughter of George W. and Mary E. Fielden Wood, was born near Cabool October 25, 1899 and departed this life February 20, 1973 in the Texas County Memorial Hospital following a long illness. On September 17, 1919 she was united in marriage to Francis Loman and to this union a daughter was born. Mr. Loman preceded her in death in 1953 and she has also been preceded by her parents, two brothers and a grandson. At the time of her passing she had been a member of the Cabool First Baptist church since August 18, 1933.

Surviving are the daughter, Myrna Klidy, Richmond, Mich., two brothers, John and Ernest (Earnest) Wood both of Cabool, a sister, Ethel Loman of Cabool, a host of other relatives and many firends. Funeral services were conducted 2 pm Friday in the Elliott-Gentry Chapel with Rev. Marvin Jacobs officiating. Burial was in the Jarrett Cemetery.

George Donald Wagner
Grandson of Louella & Francis Loman

George Donald Wagner, nine year old son of Millard Wagner of Cabool, was stricken with polio last week. He was taken to Burge hospital early Sunday morning, and died Sunday afternoon, September 13. Donnie was born March 9, 1944, the son of Millard and Myrna Wagner. Funeral services will be conducted in the First Baptist Church here this (Thursday) afternoon. Burial will be in the Cabool cemetery, under the direction of Elliott-Gentry Funeral Home. Survivors are the father, Millard O. Wagner, the mother, Mrs Myrna M. Stafford of Detroit, Michigan, grandparents, and a number of uncles, aunts and cousins. Donnie's sudden death was a severe shock to his parents, relatives and friends. On Friday he attended school and complained of a sore throat. At first his parents thought he had only a slight cold. Sunday morning upon his arrival at the polio cottage he was immediately placed in an iron lung but failed to improve.

In another small obit it has: His father believed he had a slight cold. At 10:30 a.m. he was taken to Springfield and place immediately in an iron lung. An opening was made to his tracehea to assist respiration but his condition failed to improve. He is also survived by his paternal grandparents and a maternal grandmother.

Fred Columbus Wood
Son of George & Mary Wood
25 October 1901 - 23 September 1969

Fred C. Wood was born Oct 25, 1901, to George Wood and Mary E. Fielden. He died on Sept. 23, 1969, making his age 67 years, 10 months and 29 days. Fred was a lifelong resident of Texas County where he worked as a farmer until his health failed several years ago. At an early age he was converted and was a member of the Providence Free Will Baptist Church where his membership has remained. When the Providence Church was organized on Nov. 2, 1930, Fred was one of the charter members and he was proud of his church.

He is survived by two brothers, John and Earnest of Cabool; two sisters, Mrs. Louella Loman and Mrs. Ethel Loman, both of Cabool; several nieces and nephews and aunts and uncles. His parents and one brother preceded him in death. He will be sadly missed by all who knew him. He is now at rest in the great land beyond.

Funeral services were held Friday, 2 p.m. in the Providence Free Will Baptist Church with Rev. Don Ratteree and Rev. Payton Smyer officiating. Burial was in the Wood Cemetery under direction of Elliott-Gentry.

Earnest Cecil Wood

Earnest Cecil Wood was born December 15, 1909, to George Washington and Mary Elizabeth (Fielden) Wood. He passed away June 7, 2003, at Kabul Nursing Home in Cabool, Missouri. The youngest of six children, Earnest enjoyed the outdoors and gospel music. He was a farmer all his life. He attended Freely Give Country School through fifth grade, then he stayed home to help on the farm. After his mother's death, Earnest and his brothers, John and Fred, took care of their bedfast father for the rest of his life. Earnest attended several different churches during his growing up years, Oak Grove, Providence, and Hamilton Creek. He was saved at an early age. On March 25, 1940, Earnest was united in marriage to Ruby Marie Skyles and to this union two daughters were born, Mary Edith and Linda Marie.

Those preceding him in death were his parents, three brothers, Lilburn, Fred and John; two sisters, LouElla Loman and Ethel Loman; his wife of 23 years, Ruby; an infant daughter; Linda Marie: and his son-in-law Bill Wayland.

He is survived by his daughter, Edith Wayland of Cabool, Missouri; three granddaughters, Lulu Marie and husband Merle Dixon of Cabool, Evelyn Sue and husband Paul Peck of Farmington, Missouri, and Mary Blanche and husband, Danny Westfall of Willard, Missouri; ten great grandchildren, Christy Ann and husband Brian White of Springfield, Missouri, Jason Kirk Rust and wife Wendy of Liberty, Missouri, Nathan William Foster and wife Courtney of Springfield, Makayla Deann and husband Joey Partch of Springfield, Tyler Wayland Rust of Farmington, Matthew Curtis Dixon and Michael Paul Dixon of Cabool, Brittney Danielle Westfall and Shelby Norene Westfall of Willard, and Natalie Paige Peck of Farmington; four great great grandchildren, Ashlyn Nichole White, Hunter Kirk White, Caleb Joseph Partch, and Nathan Alexander Foster, all of Springfield; and many nieces, nephews, cousins and a host of friends.

Services were held Monday, June 9, 2003, at Elliott-Gentry Funeral Home Chapel with Elder Doug Brower officiating. Burial was in Pleasant Grove Cemetery. Pallbearers were Merle Dixon, Paul Peck, Danny Westfall, Jason Rust, Matthew Dixon and Michael Dixon. Honorary pallbearers were Nathan Foster and Tyler Rust. Music was by Nell Hamilton and Modene Smith with "The Old Rugged Cross" and "Go Rest High on That Mountain."

Ruby Marie Wood


Ruby Marie Wood, daughter of Alva M. and Pearl D. Skyles was born March 18, 1919 in Texas County, Mo., and departed this life December 7, 1963 at her home in the Freely Give Community at the age of 44 years, 8 months and 19 days. At an early age she was converted and always lived a Christian life. She was united in married to Earnest Wood, March 25, 1940 and to this union two children were born, one preceded her is death at infancy in 1952.

She is survived by her husband, one daughter, Edith Wayland, Cabool and three granddaughters of Cabool. Also her mother, Pearl Skyles of Cabool; two sisters, Opal Altis, Cabool; Mrs. Virginia Hicks, Kansas City; four brothers, Junior Skyles, Cabool; Leroy Skyles, Houston; Richard Skyles of Mansfield; A/2c Robert Skyles of Seville, Spain, and her grandmother, Elsie Ross, Akron, Colo. Also, a host of aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and many friends.

Funeral services were held Monday afternoon at the Church of the Brethren with Rev. John Wieand officiating.
Burial was in Pleasant Grove Cemetery under direction of Ellliott-Gentry Funeral Home.

Obit: Ora Mae Williams, 61, daughter of Sam and Naomi Estep Hartman, was killed
in an automobile accident about 5 p.m. Sept. 26, 1980 near Mansfield, Ohio. She was born Jan. 3, 1919 in Texas County near Houston, Mo.

She moved with her family to Leeper, Mo., later to Teresita, Mo., returning to Texas County, where she graduated from Houston High School.

She was united in marriage to Roy McCubbins of Yukon in 1942. He died in 1964 and on May 16, 1970, she was united in marriage to
Kenneth Williams and had resided in St. Louis since that time.

Survivors include three brothers, Darrell B. Hartman from Project City, Calif., Edward W. Hartman of Piedmont, Mo.,
and John L. Hartman of Sarcoxie, Mo.; three sisters, Rozetta McKinney from Nevada, Iowa, Eunice Greathouse, Sarcoxie, Mo. and Nellie
Holland of Poplar Bluff, Mo.

Funeral services were held Sept. 30 at the Fey Funeral Home with interment in Sun Set Burial Park.**

**note: Although Ora's name apparently appears on the stone with Roy, she ultimately was buried in another cemetery.
 Roy's stone is in Big Creek Cemetery, Yukon, MO.

Obit: Elva Cora Wallace, 87, daughter of Matt and Elizabeth Barnett Brewington, was born March 22, 1917, at Summersville.
She died Dec. 17, 2004, at the Kabul Nursing Home following a lengthy illness.
She grew up in the Summersville area and lived in Texas County most of her life.
She married Henry Stark. They had seven children.
She later married Arvil Wallace. He died in 1995.
Mrs. Wallace enjoyed quilting, using paints to make the blocks.
She attended the Brown Hill Baptist Church as long as her health permitted.
In addition to her husbands, she was preceded in death by her parents, and one son, Charles Eugene Stark.
Surviving are five daughter, Jewell Dewitt Elliott, Lois Shelley, Marie McCartney and Judy Smith of Cabool and Christina James of Lathrop;
two sons, Gary Stark of Cabool and Russell Stark of Fairfax; 18 grandchildren, a host of great- and great-great-grandchildren.
Services were Dec. 20 at the Evans Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. WesleyWallace officiating.
Burial was in the Friendship Cemetery.

Obit: Robert Leon Wallace, son of Robert W. and Thelma L. Wallace, was born at Sheldon, Mo. Sept. 21, 1941 and died at Warrensburg
Clinic February 19, 1960, making his age at the time of death 18 years, 4 months and 28 days.

He was converted at nine years of age in a Daily Vacation Bible School at Houston Baptist Church.
He joined the Central Baptist Church a year later and was baptized.

Robert Leon was very talented at many things, especially where handwork was required and when he started a new project he was striving for perfection because he believed "a thing worth doing was worth doing well."

He attended the Houston school system the entire 12 years, graduating in the class of 1959.
He was employed as a lathe specialist at the Albert Tool and Gage Company in Kansas City.
He was a home-loving young man and came home about every weekend.

Surviving are his parents, Robert W. and Thelma L. Wallace and one sister, Meredith Kaye of the home; his paternal grandparents,
Mr. and Mrs. Churchill Wallace, and his maternal grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. A. J. Longacre of Sheldon, Mo.

Funeral services were conducted Monday afternoon at 3:00 at Central Baptist Church with the Rev. Ellis Cooper and Don Brower officiating.
Quartet music was by George Harmon, Verna Scott, Duard Akins and Joe Blankenship. Pallbearers were Denny Thomason,
 Joe Perryman, Donald Shelhammer, David Rastorfer, Duke Tweed and  Larry Flowers.

MARCH 30, 1950

James Edward Wallace, son of William and Martha Wallace, was born April 22, 1864, at Carlyle, Indiana, and departed this life March 22, 1950, making his age at the time of death 85 years and 11 months.
At about the age of 16 years he came with his parents to Missouri and has spent the remainder of his life in and around Houston.

He was married to Lawson Belle Baird on November 26, 1885. God blessed this union with 7 children. His wife and two children preceded him in death: Viola Agnes who died in infancy, and Anna Holt, who was killed in an explosion in 1946.
The remaining children are: Bessie Davis, Churchill Wallace, Pearl Birkhead, and Theta Freese all of Houston, and Florence Gilmore of Springfield.

At an early age he gave his heart to God and united with the Freewill Baptist Church. This church dissolved and May 9, 1908 he joined the Central Baptist Church. He remained a member of this church until his death, having been an active member until sickness prevented.
On July 2, 1936 he was married to Oma Kirkwood.

Left to mourn his going are his wife, 5 children, 17 grandchildren, 14 great-grandchildren; two sisters, Mrs. Rose Brown of Raymondville
and Mrs. Rhoda Wilson, of Springfield, a host of other relatives and friends uncountable.

Thus has come to an end the life of another grand old soldier of the Cross.
But his life and influence will live on and on in the hearts and memories of those who know and love him.

Funeral services were Friday afternoon, March 24, at the Central Baptist Church, conducted by Rev. Milton Elmore, assisted by Rev. Kirby Fletcher. His five grandsons: Willard and Chester Davis, Robert Wallace, Artford Freese, Jr., and Wayne Birkhead; and one grandson-in-law, Howard Abbott, acted as pallbearers.
Interment was in the Central Baptist Cemetery under the direction of Elliott's.

Obit: Churchill Elbert Wallace, 83, son of James E. and Lawson Belle (Baird) Wallace, was born January 17, 1897 at Houston,
and died Feb. 5, 1980 at Meadow Manor Nursing Home at St. James, Mo.

He was united in marriage to Bertha Jane Watson March 2, 1919 at Houston and to this union two children were born.

Survivors are his wife, Bertha, a resident of Meadow Manor Nursing Home at St. James, Mo.; one son, Robert Watson Wallace of Houston;
one daughter, Betty Jo Korver of Poplar Bluff, Mo.; two sisters, Mrs. Pearl Birkhead and Mrs. Theta Freese of Houston; one granddaughter;
four grandsons; one great-grandson and one great-granddaughter.

He was preceded in death by his parents, four sisters, and one grandson.
He served in the U.S. Army in World War I.

For many years he was a member of the Central Baptist Church serving in the capacity of Sunday School superintedent, teacher, and deacon.
At the time of his death he was a member of the Houston Baptist Church where he served as honorary deacon.

He was a member of the American Legion Post #41 of Houston and for his many years of service in different capacities he was
awarded a lifetime membership card.

He will be remembered by many in the area as an interior decorator and paper hanger.
He and his wife observed their 60th wedding anniversary last year.

Funeral services were held Thursday, Feb. 7 in the Evans Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Mike Yelton officiating.
Burial was in the Central Baptist Cemetery.

Obit: Bertha Jane Wallace, 82, daughter of the late Rev. W. T. Watson and Hattie (Murdock) Watson,
was born June 4, 1899 at Houston and died August 2, 1981 at Meadow Manor Nursing Home in St. James.

She was united in marriage to Churchill E. Wallace March 2, 1919, and to this union two children were born.

She was preceded in death by her parents, two sisters, two brothers, a grandson and her husband.

Survivors include one son, Robert W. Wallace of Houston; one daughter, Betty Jo Korver of Poplar Bluff;
one granddaughter and four grandsons and a great grandson and a great granddaughter, one sister, Mrs. Pearl Brown of Houston;
one brother, Charles Watson of Houston; five grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

She was an active member of the Central Baptist Church as long as her health permitted.
Later she and her husband moved their membership to the First Baptist Church of Houston.

She was an active member of the Rebekah Lodge for over 30 years having received her 30-year pin and was active in the American Legion Auxiliary for many years.

Funeral services were held Tuesday, August 4 at the Evans Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Mike Yelton officiating.
Burial was in the Central Baptist Cemetery.

Obit: Arvil E. Wallace, 90, son of George and Gertrude Carder Wallace, was born May 5, 1905, in a covered wagon while his family was traveling between Oklahoma
and Missouri. He died Sep. 24, 1995 at the Kabul Nursing Home in Cabool following a lengthy illness.

He grew up at Raymondville and lived most of his life in the Houston and Raymondville area. He was a self-employed logger most of his life.
Following his retirement in 1962, he farmed in North Missouri.
Mr. Wallace was a member of the Central Baptist Church.

He was preceded in death by his first wife, Mildrum Crum Wallace; an infant son; three brothers, Arthur, Ed, and William; and a grandson.

Surviving are his wife, Elva Brewington Stark Wallace, a resident of the Kabul Nursing Home; a daughter, Christina James of Lathrop; four
stepdaughters, Jewell Elliott, Lois Shelley, Marie McCarthy and Judy Smith of Cabool; two stepsons, Gary Stark of Cabool and Russell Stark of Fairfax; one
brother, Charley Wallace of Houston; six grandchildren, 15 step-grandchildren, 22 step-great-grandchildren, and one step-great-great-grandson.

Services were Sep. 26 at the Evans Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Wesley Wallace officiating.
Burial was in the Central Baptist Cemetery.
