2/15/07 Ella Sidney McDowell Morrow, 89, passed away Wednesday, Feb. 7, 2007.
Ella was born May 16, 1917 in Terry the only child of Elam H. and Ada Mae McDowell. She lost her father to cancer at the age of eight so was raised solely by her mother. She attended Terry school and graduated from high school in 1935.
In addition to being a scholar, Ella was the pianist for a dance orchestra called The Eight Aces. It was during that time she met Fred Morrow, brother of one of the band members. The Eight Aces played for dances in Terry and the surrounding communities. They often played at the Morrow barn dances in Mildred.
Ella attended the University of California at Berkeley for two years. However, her love for Fred was greater than her love for school and in March of 1937, Fred and Ella were married in Denver, Colo. where Fred was working. In 1945 they settled in Baker where they opened a hardware store.
Ella was an active member of the Order of Eastern Star and Baker Community Church as well as many volunteer and social organizations.
Ella and Fred sold the store and retired to Lake Coeur d'Alene, Carlin Bay, in 1977. They had been married for 67 years when Fred died Nov. 5, 2004.
Ella is survived by three daughters: Carolyn (Jack) Havens, Hayden, Idaho, Diane (Fred) Hammack, Portland, Ore., and Jeannine (Sam) Logozzo, Brier, Wash; three grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; numerous nieces and nephews.
Memorial services were held Saturday, Feb. 10, 2007 at Yates Funeral Home in Hayden, IdahO
Katherine Nicely, 75, of Billings died suddenly Feb. 4, 2007.
Katherine was born July 17, 1931 to Henry and Sophia Myer in Baker where she grew up and graduated from high school. She worked for Dr. Sam Weeks for many years, and this is where she met her future husband, Earl Nicely.
April 8, 1956, she married Earl and they moved to Miles City. Katherine worked at Holy Rosary Hospital for 40 years as a nurse assistant and especially enjoyed labor and delivery and the nursery. She retired in 1996 from Holy Rosary Hospital.
In May 1998, Earl and Katherine moved to Billings to be closer to their daughter Connie and her family.
She was an active member of the Seventh Day Adventist Church in Miles City and attended the Seventh Day Adventist Church in Billings.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 47 years, Earl; and four siblings.
She is survived by her daughter Connie (Denny) Broberg and their children Elise and Haley, all of Billings; one brother, Sam (Evelyn) Myer, and her twin sister, Pauline Myer, all of Baker; and one niece, Gloria Dick, of Calif.
Funeral services were held Friday, Feb. 9, 2007 in Billings.
Eva Henley, 88, of Baker, formerly of Billings, passed away Thursday, Feb. 8, 2007 at Fallon Medical Complex in Baker.
Eva was born Mar. 7, 1918, to John and Mary (Trian) Kosty at the family homestead in Olive. She attended schools in Miles City. Eva worked with her parents helping them with their truck farming business. It was in Miles City that she met and married Harry Sakelaris. The two were united in marriage on Sept. 1, 1940 in Miles City. To this union was born a son, Chris. Throughout the years Eva worked in Miles City at the Miles City Cleaners, Range Riders Cafe and the 600 Cafe.
Later, she married Oliver Henley on Dec. 24, 1951 in Billings. Eva and Oliver lived in various communities throughout eastern Montana where Oliver was employed by the Montana State Highway Department. They later moved to Billings where Eva worked as a waitress at the General Custer Inn, Muzzleloader and a few others. In Feb. of 1978 she retired due to an injury. After Oliver passed away on Oct. 21, 1988, Eva continued to make Billings her home until she entered Fallon Medical Complex Nursing Home in Nov. 1999.
Eva Henley is survived by her son Chris (Shirley) Sakelaris of Baker; two sisters, Emma Zawada of Billings and Kathryn Kalianov of Waterloo, Iowa; two sisters-in-law, Alex Kosty, Miles City and Thelma Kosty, Sun City, Ariz.; two grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband Oliver; three brothers, Chris Kosty, Vic Kosty and Ernest Kosty; two sisters, Georgia Kosty and Jonna Kosty; and one grandson, Mark Anthony Sakelaris, on April 10, 1990.
A prayer service was held Sunday, Feb. 11, 2007 in the chapel of Stevenson Funeral Home.
Funeral services were held Monday, Feb. 12, 2007 in the chapel of Stevenson Funeral Home in Baker with Rev. Howard D. Schreibeis officiating.
Special music was provided by Debbi Jo Varner as pianist and soloist and a trumpet solo by Serenity Johnson.
Pallbearers were Heidi Reinertson, Mitch Reinertson, Jerry Sakelaris, Paige Sakelaris, Jerry Zawada, John Zawada and Chris Zawada.
Interment was in the family lot in Terrace Gardens Cemetery in Billings.

Payton Jacob Shumaker Payton Shumaker, 92, passed away February 1, 2007. He was born Nov. 7, 1914, at the ranch on Ash Creek near Ismay, the youngest son of Payton Jacob and Essie Hale Shumaker. He grew up in the Ash Creek and Whitney Creek area. Jake graduated from Ismay High School in 1932 and had started his life with sheep in 1929, tromping wool and tagging sheep.
Jake and Lorraine Rosmussen were married June 10, 1938 in Baker. They lived on the Older place until 1942 when the house was moved one mile to be on the MDU pipeline. This continued to be the home ranch until Jake retired.
After the death of his two sons, Joey and Shawn, Jake became involved with the Yellowstone Boys Ranch. At his retirement, his ranch was placed in trust at the Yellowstone Boys and Girls Ranch and because of this generous gift, Shumaker Lodge was built there in his honor.
Jake was preceded in death by his brothers Sam and Charlie; wife Lorraine; sons Joseph Raymond and Shawn Kyle; granddaughter Tiffany Brooke; and daughter-in-law Theresa Marie.
He is survived by daughters Sandra (Jim) Ross of Terry, DeAn Small of Seattle, Wash.; sons Payton Jacob Shumaker III and Mark (Christine) Whitney of Billings; eight grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.
Funeral services were held Monday, Feb. 5, 2007 at the Community Presbyterian Church in Terry. Interment was in the Prairie County Cemetery in Terry.

Raymond Scheuffele
Raymond Alfred Scheuffele, 63, died Jan. 18, 2007 at Port St. Lucie Nursing & Restorative Care Center of Port St. Lucie, Fla.
He was born in Baker and lived in Port St. Lucie for the past 14 year, coming from Miami, Fla. He worked for Florida Power and Light Co. for 18 years as an electrical engineer. He was a Vietnam veteran, serving in the Navy.
Survivors include his wife, Carole Scheuffele, of Port St. Lucie, Fla.; daughters, Michele Whitaker of Bay City, Mich., Susan O'Sullivan of Eagle, Mich., and Leslie Scheuffele of Jackson, Mich.; one son, Jonathan Williams, of Lakewood, Ohio; one sister, Shirley Strangford, of Baker; brothers, Victor Scheuffele of Ariz., Ruben Scheuffele of Myrtle Creek, Ore., twin brother Robert Scheuffele of Snohomish, Wash.; three grandchildren; aunt Leona Schafer of Baker.(friends of genealogy)
