US Navy Seaman(BM3)Larry Ray Dameron, Vietnam Veteran, Native of Burlington, NC. He was born July 11, 1947 in Burlington, Alamance Co., North Carolina and died December 11, 1969 in Tay Ninh, Vietnam.
Boatswain's Mate Third Class Larry Ray Dameron was a casualty of the Vietnam War. As a member of the Navy, BM3 Dameron served our country until December 11th, 1969 in Tay Ninh, South Vietnam. He was 22 years old and was not married. It was reported that Larry died from artillery fire. His body was recovered. BM3 Dameron is on panel 15W, line 047 of the Vietnam Memorial Wall in Washington D.C. He served our country for 3 years.
Dameron, Larry R, Boatswain's Mate Third Class, U.S. Navy, died in action in Vietnam on December 10, 1969, Boatswain's Mate Dameron, age 22, was the son of Glenn W. and Emma Brooks Dameron of Route 5, Burlington and had been in Vietnam for 8 weeks at the time of his death. He was a native of this county and attended Eastern Alamance High School where he was a pitcher on the baseball team. Boatswain's Mate Dameron enlisted in the Navy in October 1966 and was a member of Victory Baptist Church. In addition to his parents, he is survived by 3 brothers—Dwight, Steve, and Tony Dameron—and 3 sisters—Mrs. Glenda Thompson, Miss Debrah Dameron, and Miss Dianne Dameron. Other survivors include great-grandmother Mrs. Lonnie Chambers, maternal grandmother Mrs. Maggie Brooks and paternal grandmother Mrs. Lillian Dameron. Source: Times-News December 12, 1969.
NAVFORV History Pages 15-17, ASPB-6849(Armored River Patrol Boat)was hit by mortar fire while beached at the Binh Chau SF Camp on the Vam Co Tay River 14 KM NW of the Moc Hoa Airfield.
He was the Son of Mr and Mrs Glen W Dameron, Route #5, Burlington, NC.
He served on ASPB-153-6849, with Task Force 117, River Division-153, US Naval Forces (USNAVFOR).
He was awarded The Purple Heart Medal for his combat related wounds, The Vietnam Service Medal, The Republic of Vietnam Campaign Service Medal, The National Defense Service Medal and The Good Conduct Medal.

US Marine LCPL Charles Edward Draemer, Vietnam Veteran, Native of Burlington, NC. He was born March 23, 1948 in Burlington, Alamance County, North Carolina and died May 30, 1968 in Quang Tri, Vietnam.
US Marine Lance Corporal Charles Edward Draemer was a casualty of the Vietnam War. As a member of the Marine Corps, LCPL Draemer served our country until May 30th, 1968 in Quang Tri, South Vietnam. He was 20 years old and was not married. It was reporteed that Charles died from small arms fire or grenade. His body was recovered. LCPL Draemer is on panel 63W, line 015 of the Vietnam Memorial Wall in Washington D.C. He served our country for less than a year.
Charles Draemer was my Uncle, and although I never met him, he has never been forgotten thanks to my mother, who was his sister-in-law. Draemer, Charles Edward, Lance Corporal, US Marines, died May 30, 1968 from hostile fire in Vietnam. Lance Corporal Draemer, age 20, was the son of Mr. Paul Draemer and Mrs. Hazel Tate Draemer of Delaware Ave., Burlington. Corporal Draemer's father is employed with the Transportation Division of Burlington Industries and the family is originally from Sugarland, Texas. In addition to his parents, Corporal Draemer's brother was Paul Michael Draemer who later was killed in the Persian Gulf War in 1996, and several aunts and uncles. Source: Times-News August 8, 1993.
He served with Alpha Company, 1st Battalion, 3rd Marines, 3rd Marine Division, 3rd MAF.
He was awarded The Combat Action Ribbon(CAR), The Purple Heart Medal for his combat related wounds and Two Gold Stars, The Vietnam Service Medal, The Republic of Vietnam Campaign Service Medal, The National Defense Service Medal and the Good Conduct Medal.
