PFC Kenneth Frank Underwood, Vietnam Veteran, Native of Burlington, NC.
Private First Class Kenneth Frank Underwood was a casualty of the Vietnam War. As a member of the Army, PFC Underwood served our country until February 25th, 1967 in Ninh Thuan, South Vietnam. He was 18 years old and was not married. It was reported that Kenneth died from multiple fragmentation wounds from a mine. His body was recovered. Kenneth was born on February 28th, 1948 in Burlington, North Carolina. PFC Underwood is on panel 15E, line 092 of the Vietnam Memorial Wall in Washington D.C. PFC Underwood served our country for one year.
PFC Kenneth Frank Underwood, U.S. Army, died February 25, 1967, at the age of 18. A paratrooper, he was killed while in action against hostile forces in Vietnam. He had volunteered for service and trained at Fort Gordon and Fort Benning in Georgia. He had been in Vietnam for seven months. He is survived by his parents, George Howard and Elsie Decie Siler Underwood; one sister, Mrs Ernest Boone; one brother, Herman James Underwood; and a grandfather, C.B. Underwood. He served with Headquarters and Headquarters Company, 2nd Battalion, 327th Infantry Regiment, 101st Airborne Division, "Screaming Eagles", USARV.
He was awarded The Combat Infantryman's Badge(CIB), The Purple Heart Medal for his combat related wounds, The Vietnam Service Medal, The Republic of Vietnam Campaign Service Medal, The National Defense Service Medal and The Good Conduct Medal.
Burial: Pine Hill Cemetery, Burlington, North Carolina.
