I had a MIA bracelet for Murray Borden. He was the other person on this flight. In my searches for information on Murray I found the following. It's not the way we want our men to come home but now there is some closure. Rest in peace. You will not be forgotten.
Memorandum Number: No 295-M, November 21, 1994, MEMORANDUM FOR CORRESPONDENTS. The remains of an American serviceman, previously listed as unaccounted for in Southeast Asia, have been identified as Captain Eugene T. Meadows, USAF. Captain Meadows, a pilot, and his aircraft commander were the crew of an F-4C aircraft which was lost over Quang Binh Province, Vietnam while on an armed reconnaissance mission on October 13, 1966. While the aircraft was on a third pass over an enemy road construction crew, a forward air controller directing the attack witnessed what he believed was exploding ordnance. Efforts to contact the aircraft commander were unsuccessful and, upon determination that the aircraft was missing, a search was initiated with negative results.
A helicopter search two days later located wreckage believed to be that of the aircraft, and Captain Meadows and the aircraft commander were listed as missing. Their status was later amended to killed in action, bodies not recovered. Captain Meadows was born March 4, 1940, and his home of record is Hiddenite, North Carolina. Captain Meadows' remains were located during a U.S./Vietnamese excavation and repatriated earlier this year. The remains of the aircraft commander, whose name is being withheld, have not yet been located.
He served with the 480th Tactical Fighter Squadron, 366th Tactical Fighter Wing, 7th Air Force, USARV.
He was awarded Bronze Star Medal, The Purple Heart Medal for his combat related wounds, The Vietnam Service Medal, The Republic of Vietnam Campaign Service Medal, The National Defense Service Medal, The Good Conduct Medal and The Air Medal with Multiple Oak Leaf Clusters.
