Private First Class Bentford Bennett was a casualty of the Vietnam War. As a member of the Army Selective Service and a Draftee, PFC Bennett served our country until June 23rd, 1966 in South Vietnam. He was 22 years old and was not married. It was reported that Bentford died from small arms fire or grenade. His body was recovered. PFC Bennett is on panel 08E, line 081 of the Vietnam Memorial Wall in Washington D.C. He served our country for one year. He was one of three vets that were killed in Vietnam that were natives of the small town of Lilesville.
He was the son of Mrs Elise Bennett, PO Box 188, Lilesville, NC.
He served with Charlie Company, 7th Cavalry Regiment, 1st Cavalry Division(AMBL), USARV.

BENNETT, Risden Tyler, a Representative from North Carolina; born in Wadesboro, Anson County, N.C., June 18, 1840; attended the common schools and Anson Institute; was graduated from Cumberland University and from Lebanon Law School, Tennessee, in 1859. During the Civil War enlisted in the Confederate Army as a private on April 30, 1861, and left the service as colonel of the Fourteenth North Carolina Troops, having been wounded on three occasions; solicitor of Anson County in 1866 and 1867; member of the State house of representatives 1872-1874; delegate to the State constitutional convention in 1875; judge of the superior court from 1880 until his resignation in 1882; elected as a Democrat to the Forty-eighth and Forty-ninth Congresses (March 4, 1883-March 3, 1887); chairman, Committee on Expenditures in the Department of State (Forty-ninth Congress); engaged in the practice of law in Wadesboro, N.C., and died there July 21, 1913; interment in the family cemetery near Wadesboro, N.C.

US Marine Private First Class Robert Glenn Burr was a casualty of the Vietnam War. As a member of the Marine Corps, PFC Burr served our country until February 13th, 1968 in Quang Nam, South Vietnam. He was 19 years old and was not married. It was reported that Robert died from small arms fire or grenade. His body was recovered. PFC Burr is on panel 39E, line 017 of the Vietnam Memorial Wall in Washington D.C. He served our country for less than a year.
He was the brother of Edgar Burr, Son of Mr and Mrs Sidney A Burr, 80 Second Street, Wadesboro, NC.
He served with Alpha Company, 7th Engineer Battalion, 1st Marine Division, 3rd MAF.
He was awarded the Purple Heart Medal for his combat related wounds, the Vietnam Service Medal, Republic of Vietnam Campaign Service Medal, The National Defense Service Medal and the Good Conduct Medal.

US Marine Lance Corporal James Thomas Byrd was a casualty of the Vietnam War. As a member of the Marine Corps, LCPL Byrd served our country until February 28th, 1967 in Quang Tri, South Vietnam. He was 19 years old and was not married. It was reported that James died from small arms fire or grenade. His body was recovered. LCPL Byrd is on panel 15E, line 113 of the Vietnam Memorial Wall in Washington D.C. He served our country for one year.
He was the son of Mr and Mrs James Byrd, Box 210, Moore's Lake Road, Wadesboro, NC.
He served with Mike Company, 3rd Battalion, 4th Marines, 3rd Marine Division, 3rd MAF.
