Appears on a Receipt Roll for clothing for Mar 1864,  and for 2nd quarter 1864 issued April 11, 1864.

Final Statement of J. Smith Abernathy
Deceased, late private Company C, 28th N.C. Regiment.
Private J. Smith Abernathy born in Catawba County State of North Carolina was enlisted by Capt Linebarger at Newton N.C. on the 14th day of March 1864 to Serve for the War and died of disease at Richmond Va. on the 21st day of July 1864.  No payment has been made him.  He is into them to pay from the date of his enlistment to the date of his death.  There is due him $50.00 bounty for enlisting.  His is entitled to commutation for transportation in lieu of furlough from Richmond Va. to Newton N.C., x back which is 600 miles.  He is entitled to commutation for clothing from the 14th day of March 1864 to the 21st day of June 1864.  He is indebted to the confederate states for ______ on account of clothing drawn in kind to the amount of $17.00 (Seventeen dollars) no effects on hands.
He is entitled to the bounty Bonus of $100. under act of Congress approved Feb 17th 1864.
