Obit: Mrs. Flora McLean of Raeford
Special to the Observer

Raeford, Feb. 3 -- Mrs. Flora McLean, widow of Dr. Hector McLean, died at the home of Mr. John McNair, near here, Monday. Mrs. McLean was 80 years old. She was born December 29, 1829.
Dr. Hector McLean was owner of the famous Edinboro estate which was a typical Southern mansion of its time. Over one hundred slaves belong to the owner. Mrs. McLean kindly remembered these old darkies by giving them land upon which to build homes.
Near this ancestral home, Dr. McLean founded one of the first medical colleges in the State. Some of the graduates are living today and are recognized in te profession of medicine. The old college building is still standing, while the old Edinboro house was burned several years ago, but this historic spot is now marked by a heap of red brick.
Mrs. McLean was buried in the old family graveyard back of the old college building beside the elder Dr. McLean and their only child, Dr. Murphey McLean.
Dr. Hector McLean was a great physician in his day, and a kind and useful man of resource. And this is not telling half the worth of this grand old man. Mrs. Flora McLean was an excellent woman of strong Christian character. No one ever found a fault in her. She is the last of this grand old family.
