Her third great-grandmother, a Cherokee maiden, born in the South, married a white Christian, was banished from her tribe after she had reared a family she was gathered up with the other Cherokees and taken to the Indian Territory with a company known as “The Trail of Tears.” She shared the terrible suffering and sorrows of these people on this trip, settling in Oklahoma, here she “died at great age.”
NOTE: In checking this abstract with original records in the National Archives, I find the abstract to be somewhat inaccurate and incomplete. The researcher who desires to be both accurate and complete should search the original records, even though they are difficult to read. ---Jimmy B. Parker
