Scroggs, J. R. Rev. age 73 yrs old age, Dec 2 died at his home at the Marion,N.C. Dec 17, 1917 He was a Iredell Co. native born and reared in Corcord Township. son of the late J.Hyal Scroggs. 5 sisters and 3 brotherssurvive, including M.J. Scroggs and John E. Scroggs. He was a civil war vet. Survived by his wife the former Miss Sue Gunn,niece of Mrs Sue Wagner of Statesville who survives him along with three children; ClarenceScroggsof winston-salem,Mrs. Fiortune of Ashville and Miss Stella Scroggs.

Steele, Silas - age 83 years, a citizen of south of Iredell, died at Redmond,Ore. where he had made his home with his adopted daughter Mrs. R.L. Miller for the past several years. Died Feb 19, 1918. Buried at Port Blakely, Wash Mr T. L. Steele of Statesville is a nephew. The deceased was reared on the old Thomas Steele place east of Mooresville. He married Miss Mary Cornelius, a aunt of George of Levi Cornelius of Mooresville. He was a civil war vet.
