Mrs. Hazel Lewis Adams, age 52, of Drakes Branch, died Monday, April 18, 1977, in a South Boston Hospital. Born July 31, 1923 in Yancey Co., N.C., she was the daughter of the late Joe Lewis and Mary Tolley Lewis.
She is survived by her husband, Cheslie Adams, one son, Van Adams, both of Drakes Branch; four brothers, Jake Lewis of Cullen, James Lewis of Chester, S.C., Hobert Lewis of the Phillipine Islands, Paul Lewis of Cullen; four sisters, Mrs. Rettie Brown of Texas, Mrs. Arline Howell of Madisonville, Honey Lewis of Farmville, and Mrs. Retha A. Arnold of Abilene.
Funeral services were held Wednesday, April 20 at 2 p.m. in the Chapel of the Shorter Funeral Home, Farmville, with interment in Willow Grove Church of God Cemetery at Darlington Heights.

Akins, Kevin D.
Sgt. Kevin D. Akins -BURNSVILLE, NC - Sgt. Kevin D. Akins, 29, of Burnsville, NC died in the line of duty Sunday, March 12, 2006, while serving with the U.S. Army in Afghanistan.
-He was a member of the Asheville, NC-based Alpha Company of the 391st Engineering Battalion. A native of Plant City, FL, Kevin had lived in Burnsville for the past eight years. He was a grocery manager with Ingles, and attended Shoal Creek Baptist Church in Burnsville.
-Surviving are his mother and step-father, Elizabeth E. Garrison-Hanson and husband, Herbert Hanson of Plant City; his father and step-mother, Don and Kara Akins of Oglethorpe, GA; sisters, Kelly J. Akins of Burnsville, Kim Guy of Caledonia, GA and Krisey Garrison of Plant City; step-sisters, Tammy Washum and April Garrison of Plant City; step-brothers, Shane and Shawn Garrison of Plant City; five nieces and nephews, Brook and Grace Robertson of Burnsville, Sierra, Caleb and Arriana Simpson of Plant City, FL; and several aunts and uncles.
-Funeral services will be held at Noon Tuesday in the Chapel of Holcombe Brothers Funeral Home in Burnsville. Rev. Rick Westbrook will officiate. Burial will be in the Sam Robertson Cemetery with full military grave rites.
-The family will receive friends from 6:00 until 8:00 P.M. Monday at the funeral home.
