Eula Mae Huffman, age 100, of Little Squirrel Creek Road in Newland, went home to be with her Lord on Sunday, July 23, 2006 at Cannon Memorial Hospital. She was born February 6, 1906 to the late Rufus and Zelphia Ashley Johnson in Avery County and was the wife of the late Staples Huffman. She was also preceded in death by a daughter, Frances D. Hicks and a son, C. W. Huffman. Eula was a homemaker and a member of Chestnut Dale Baptist Church. She loved to cook, garden, and can, but mostly loved her family.
Surviving are three daughters: Glenna J. Ollis and husband, Jack, Bonnie Sluder and husband, Robert, and Blanche Shell and husband, Ray, all of Newland; three sons: Conley Huffman and wife, Carolyn, of Newland, Lloyd Pete Huffman and wife, July and Lance Huffman and wife, Mildred, all of Spruce Pine, a daughter-in-law, Pansy Huffman of Newland; a brother, Clarence Johnson of Newland; 10 grandchildren, 15 great-grandchildren and 2 great, great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held at 10 a. m. on Thusday, July 27, 2006 at Chestnut Dale Baptist Church on Squirrel Creek Road. Revs. Andy Willis and Gary Huffman will officiate. Burial will follow in the Daniels Cemetery on Little Plumtree Creek Road. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p. m. Wednesday at the church and at other times will be at the home of a daughter, Glenna Ollis on Little Squirrel Creek Road. Memorial donations may be made to Chestnut Dale Baptist Church, c/o Betty Rouse, 544 Little Squirrel Creek Road, Newland, NC 28657. Yancey Funeral Service is serving the Huffman family.
