Wayne V. Cummins
1936-2007
Wayne Vernon Cummins, 70, Des Moines, Iowa, went to be with his Lord Wednesday, Jan. 31, 2007, in Windsor Heights, Iowa, of a massive brain hemorrhage. Funeral services were held at 1 p.m., Saturday, Feb. 3, 2007, at Berean Assembly of God Church, with burial at Laurel Hill Cemetery, under the direction of Hamilton's Funeral Home, Des Moines, Iowa.
Wayne was born May 21, 1936, to parents Floyd and Mary (Stubbs) Cummins at Dore, N.D. He grew up in the Dore area and attended schools in Fairview. Wayne enlisted in the U.S. Army in 1959 and served until 1963. Following his honorable discharge from the U.S. Army, Wayne returned to the Dore-Fairview area and worked as a carpenter and a farmer until 1970 when he enrolled in college. In 1972, Wayne graduated from DMACC (Area XL) and became a computer analyst/programmer. Wayne was a computer engineer with Wells Fargo from 1989 until his death.
Wayne was united in marriage to Marlene Joyce Staples in December 1972 and together they had two children, Diana Lynn and Sean Scott. Marlene died in 1998. In 2002, Wayne was united in marriage to Sherry Marie Rowley.
Wayne is survived by his wife, Sherry Cummins; children, Diana (Norman, Jr.) Bates and Sean (Sarah) Cummins; stepdaughters, Gina Kartsens and Laurie (Ted) Williams; 11 grandchildren; a sister Grace Clark and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Floyd and Mary Cummins; and brothers, Ralph and Donald Cummins.

Phil Short
Hunter Slays Companion
Williston, N.D., Nov. 5 - Phil Short, one of the best known newspapermen in South Dakota, was shot and killed by Clayton Yeakins while they were hunting deer in McKenzie county. Short was taken for a deer by his companion. ["The San Francisco Call", November 06, 1908, Page 3 - Sub. by K.T.]
John L. Townsend
The following obituary is from the Williston (ND) Herald of July 15:
John L. Townsend died at his home in this city, 16 West Seventh street, Saturday evening at nine o'clock, following a lingering illness of about nine years, and for the past three weeks had been confined to his bed. Death was due to Bright's disease.
The deceased was born in Milltown, Maine, July 18, 1866, and with his parents moved to Princeton, Minn., where he attended school. On April 22, 1895, he was united in marriage at St. Cloud to Miss Winnifred Larkin, also of Princeton, and came with his wife to Dickinson and later to Schafer, McKenzie county, where he was in the ranch business for a number of years. For the past fifteen years he has been a resident of Williston and for some time was employed by the Great Northern railroad company, but due to ill health was unable to work all the time. Besides his wife, Mrs. J. L. Townsend, six children survive. They are Mrs. C. J. Bannitz, Misses Vivian, Nina Claire, Molly and Dorothy Townsend and John Townsend. He leaves three brothers, George and Fred Townsend, Princeton, Minn.; Gus Townsend, Salem, Oregon, and one sister, Mrs. A. W. Woodcock, Redcliff, Canada. George Townsend was the only one able to attend the funeral. Funeral services were conducted from St. Joseph's Catholic church, on Tuesday morning at 9:30 o'clock, Father O'Neill officiating.
