Obituaries

 

Andrew Smith.

 

Born in Monitor county, Missouri, and passed away at the home of his son, John Smith, of Kearney, Nebraska, December 15, 1929, at the ripe old age of 89 years, 10 months and 29 days.

 

Mr. Smith moved to Nebraska in 1880 and in 1900 moved to Grand Island, where he lived with his brothers until 1924, when he came to Kearney to make his home with his son.

 

In 1858 he was united in marriage to Delila Robertson, and to this union were born six children. Mrs. Smith passed away in 1870 and all of the children have also passed on with the exception of one daughter Mrs. Hattie May Schroder, of Topeka, Kansas, and one son, John Smith, of Kearney. He is also survived by twelve grandchildren and eight great grandchildren.

 

Mr. Smith in obedience to his Lord's commands identified himself with the Christian church in Missouri in 1869. Later his membership was transferred to the Christian church at Grand Island.

 

Life run its course, and fought its fights, and now he has gone to claim eternal peace and rest."

John Parker Smith

 

John Parker Smith was born near Tarkio, Missouri, October 17, 1860 and parted this life at his home north of Kearney, Nebraska, October 16, 1937 at the age of 77 years.

 

He came with his father to Thayer county, Nebraska in 1880, and in 1908 he moved with his family to Kearney, Nebraska. In 1895 he was united in marriage to Eliza Jane Boyd. To this union were born seven children, one passing away in infancy.

 

He leaves to mourn his departure, his wife, and six children: Ellis Smith and Elsie Cornell of Crows Landing, California; Lila Vest, of Riverdale, Nebr.; Eliza Stephens of Elm Creek, Nebraska; and Andrew and Jacob at home. Also seven grandchildren; one sister, Mrs. Hattie Schroder of Riverside, California; two nieces; four nephews; other relatives and a host of friends.

 

When a young man he united with the Methodist church at Hubbell, Nebraska. He was a kind and loving husband and father.

 

A precious one from us has gone..
A voice we loved is stilled;
A place is vacant in our home..
Which never can be filled.
God in his wisdom has recalled,
And though the body slumbers here,
The soul is safe in Heaven."

    Jahn Maly

     

    an old resident of this place, committed suicide this evening by shooting himself twice with a 38-calilbre revolver, both bullets entering the breast near the heart.

     

    He had been sick for some time and it is supposed was temporaily insane at the time.  He leaves a wife and four grown up children
