Francis A. Smith
At Elmwood, Cass County, Nebraska, Feb.
8, of consumption, Francis A. Smith, aged about 58 years. --Francis Smith, who
formerly lived in Whitefield died recently in Nebraska.
He
was an Englishman by birth, a local Baptist preacher and a good man. He had been
an invalid for years - consumption numbering him among its victims at the last.
He was somewhat of a reader in his time, a good debater and a good writer.
His
long illness cut him off from as useful a life as it would have been under other
and more favorable circumstances.

William Caddy, Sr.
Gone To Rest
Last Wednesday morning occurred the death of one of our old and highly honored citizens.
Mr. Wm. Caddy, living one and a half miles north east of town.
His death was very sudden. Last Sunday, George Caddy, of California, a brother of the deceased, whom he had not seen for about thirty five years, came to pay him a visit.
On Tuesday morning they drove to a neighbors to spend the day but had not been in the house ten minutes when he was taken with violent chills and became unconscious. He was taken home and Dr. Fort immediately sent for but medical aid could do no good and at 5 o'clock the next morning he died with congestion of the brain.
How impressive the lesson of this hour! As it is with our brother so will it shortly be with us all.
Many of us are in the afternoon of life and are descending into the shadows of evening; a few more years -- possible days -- of toil, or struggle, and our labors will have been ended and "life's fitful drama" will be over.
He leaves a devoted wife and several grown children to mourn their loss.
The funeral sermon was preached in the M. E. Church by Rev. Philips and a large concourse of relatives and friends followed the remains to their last resting place.
