extraordinary heroism in action near Juvigny, France, August 29, 1918.
After
an advance through heavy machine-gun fire, from which his organization had
suffered many casualties and he himself had been twice wounded, Corporal Dye had taken refuge in a shell hole,
when he heard the cries of a wounded comrade who was lying in an exposed
position. Disregarding the intense machine-gun fire, he crossed an open space,
dressed the wounds of his comrade, and carried him to shelter.
