Essay Contest

 

"Who Wouldn't Live In Nebraska"

  

Recently the passenger department of the Burlington & Missouri railroad offered prizes for the best letter relating to Nebraska.  Replies were received from 237 persons.

 

The committee awarding the prizes was as follows:

 

H. E. Heath, publisher of the Nebraska Farmer, Omaha

G. W. Hervey, agricultural editor of the World-Herald

John Francis, general passenger agent, of the Burlington Railway

There were thirteen cash prizes offered.

The first prize of $25 goes to J. Gustave Kluck of Richland Nebraska.

 

The second of $15 to W. McBurford of Grant, Nebraska.

 

The third of $10 to J. M. Russell of Wymore.

 

There are ten premiums of $5 each, which are awarded to Nebraskans, as follows:

J. O. Shroyer, Hombolt

C. L. Brainard, Ough

W. S. Delano, Lee Park

L. Isaman, Aurora

James Pearson, Ashland

 

In addition to these, ten of the essays are “highly recommended” being those of:

L. M. Street. York, Nebraska

B. F. Vaill, Imperial, Nebraska

P. McCoy, Alliance, Nebraska

 

The World Herald will print from day to day each of the letters which were awarded prizes, together with the ten letters that attained special mention.

 

World Herald readers will do well to send marked copies of each paper containing these letters to friends in the east.
