Greeley County, Nebraska
1892 Scotia's School
Arrangements Completed Which Secures a Valuable Educational Institute
Scotia, Neb., Feb. 27. - For several weeks our people have been quietly working to get a normal school and business college located in this town, and last night the final arrangements were completed.
Prof. W. H. Barrett of Iowa will conduct the school. The citizens of Scotia donated the old court house and grounds, 150 lots and subscribed for 150 scholarships.
Last night eighty-seven lots were donated and 115 scholarships taken.
Articles of incorporation were adopted and five trustees elected. It is unnecessary to say that the people of Scotia are highly elated at their good fortune.

Scotia, Neb., April 15. - Scotia celebrated the formal opening of the Scotia Normal and Business university last Tuesday.
Notwithstanding it rained all day over 300 persons partook of a sumptuous dinner prepared by the ladies of the village, after which all repaired to the university building and were entertained with music, recitations and orations.
The school opens with about twenty students and is increasing daily. It is a sort of a resurrection of Scotia from his death, caused by the removal of the county seat.
The school building is 40x60 feet, two stories high, finished and furnished with all new furniture and apparatus. A dormitory containing 100 rooms is to be built and completed by September, ready for the fall term.
Negotiations are in progress for the lighting of the village with electric lights. An oatmeal factory is promised in the near future, besides several dwellings to be erected during the summer.
