Friendship aka Kilpatrick Cemetery is located in Section 24, Plymouth Precinct. From Fairbury go east on Hwy 136 about 2 miles past Harbine. Turn north on 581st Avenue and travel north approx. 5 1/2 miles. Or from Plymouth, go east on Hwy 4 about 2 1/2 miles, then south on 581st Ave 1 mile. The cemetery sits on the northeast corner of the intersection of 581st Ave & 722nd Road, and is directly north of the Zion Lutheran cemetery.
This cemetery is in poor condition. During my first visit in August 2008, the grass was so tall and thick that very few stones were visible from the road. When I next visited in November 2008, the grass was cut, but there were tire tracks leading off the road, through the ditch, and through the metal fence in the northwest corner of the cemetery. Unfortunately, at least one stone was knocked over due to the vehicle that came through the fence. I also discovered many other broken or fallen stones in other parts of the cemetery, some due to age and others due to vandalism. In the southwest corner of the cemetery there is a pile of stones that seem to have been discarded for some reason. Most look like footstones, but I did find the gravestone for the Kilpatrick children in the pile. Be cautious when visiting as there are many holes and sunken areas, and several stones ready to tip over.
This is a listing of all stones found in November 2008. Several large stones had been pushed face down, and it was impossible for me to read them. I have matched their position with those listed in the cemetery book and have included information on them from the book. My thanks to Charla Carter for giving permission to use her photos of the Pheasant stones, which were knocked down by the vehicle.
