Who has lived in Lincoln and
Lancaster County for over
thirty-four years died early
yesterday morning of heart failure
at his home, 1435 Popular Street.
He was born in New York city in
1845. At sixteen years of
age he enlisted as a soldier in
the civil war and was in several
severe battles.
He came to Lancaster county in the
spring of 1876 settling on a farm
in Highland precinct. He resided
there for fourteen years when he
moved to Lincoln to educate his
children.
He was engaged in the real estate
business for a number of years.
In 1890 he was elected
county commissioner, serving four
years. He was prominent for
years in county politics. He
was originally a republican but
after affiliated with the populist
party.
After the party practically
ceased to exist he cast his lot
with the democrats. During
the Shallenberger administration
he was appointed adjutant of the
soldiers home in Grand Island.
Differences with Commandant
Barnes which became so serious
that it reached the governor and
resulted in his resignation.
He is survived by a widow and
eight children. Mr. McGraw
was a fighter and while actively
participating in local politics he
was always in the limelight.
His death was unexpected.
The night previous to his
death he was feeling well and in
fine spirits. Recently he
entered the plumbing business.
The funeral will be held Saturday
afternoon at 2 o'clock from his
late home, 1435 Poplar Street.
The services at the grave
will be in charge of the Masonic
order.
Vetrans of the Civil War will
attend the funeral of Mr. McGraw
in a body.

Rev. A.C. Huth officiating.

in charge.
The infant died Thursday and
is survived by his parents,
Mr. and Mrs. Leslie A.
Francke, 236 North Nineteenth
street.

Seth Gabriel Harris
Seth Gabriel Harris was born on
July 11, 2007. He lived an
amazing 19 days and passed away on
July 30, 2007, after a courageous
fight. He was much loved in
his short life and will be
genuinely missed.
Survivors are parents Adam and
Mary (Buchinski) Harris of
Lincoln, NE, maternal grandparents
Ron and Pat Buchinski of
Bellingham, WA, paternal
grandparents Mike and Darlene
Harris of Lincoln, NE, and many
loving family and friends.
A memorial service will be held
Sunday, August 5, 2007, at 2:00 PM
at New Covenant Community Church,
Lincoln, NE, with Pastor Tim
Johnson officiating.

88, of Lincoln died Thursday, Oct.
12, 2006, at Maple Ridge
Healthcare Center in Lincoln.
She was born March 13, 1918, in
Mississippi, the daughter of Oscar
and Lillian Hazel Hughes.
She married John J. Horton; he
died in 1999.
Mrs. Horton was a homemaker. She
was a member of Englenook Baptist
Church.
Survivors: two sons, Richard
(wife, Linda) Horton of Omaha,
Neb., and Bobby (wife, Rita) Horton of Lincoln; five
grandchildren; five
great-grandchildren; and two
brothers, I.G. Hughes of
Pensacola, Fla., and Richard
Hughes of Birmingham, Ala.
Graveside services: 9:30 a.m.
Wednesday, Forest Hill Cemetery,
Birmingham.

Mrs. Johnson was born at Columbus,

1882, the daughter of Mr. and Mrs.
M. K. Turner, pioneer settlers of
Columbus.
A graduate of Columbus high school
and Peru state normal,
Mrs. Johnson also
attended the University
of
Nebraska
and
Columbia university, New York
City.
Prior to her marriage

A. Johnson,
Flint,Mich..
Mrs. Johnson taught school in
Columbus and Tustin,
Calif.
Since 1927, when
her
husband died, Mrs. Johnson has
made her home in Lincoln. She was
a member
of the University Place Methodist
church.
Her only son, Capt. Francis R.
Johnson, has been reported killed
in action on the German front Dec.
19, 1944. He had been
assigned to the Seventh
army.
Surviving are a daughter-in- law,
Mrs. Marguerite Traester-Johnson
of Lincoln; five sisters, Mrs. H.
A. Rowe and Mrs. A. J. Anderson of
Omaha, Mrs. G. H. Walker, Misses
Frances and
Martha Turner of Lincoln, and a
brother, Ralph E. Turner of
Chicago.

Ambrosius
Sterling Ambrosius, 82, of
Springfield died at 5:20 a.m.
Thursday at Memorial Medical
Center.
He was born May 28, 1910, in
Huntsville, the son of Thomas
Simon and Mary Pechin Ambrosius.
Mr. Ambrosius was a farmer in the
Huntsville area and an
administrator for the Illinois
Association of School Boards until
retiring. He had taught in
Rushville schools and was formerly
superintendent of the Rushville
School District.
Mr. Ambrosius was a member of
Woodside United Methodist Church,
Huntsville Masonic Lodge, Ansar
Shrine and Shriners Retirees Club.
Surviving are his wife, Grace
Baxter Ambrosius; two sons, Lloyd
of Lincoln, Neb., and John of
Platteville, Wis.; and six
grandchildren.
Services will be at 10:30 a.m.
Saturday at Woodside United
Methodist Church, with the Rev.
George Loveland officiating.
Graveside services will be at 2
p.m. Saturday at Huntsville
Cemetery.
Boardman-Smith Funeral Chapel is
in charge of arrangements.

55, Lincoln, died here Thursday.
He was state represeniative before
Sen Carl Curtis (R-Neb).
He had been a Lincoln resident for
28 years.
